Pet First-Aid Kits Donated to Burbank Animal Shelter

Right now it's 90 degrees here in Canoga Park (at 8:28 p.m. I might add) and earlier today it was 111 in Woodland Hills. The hot summer days are getting hotter and hotter. If you think it's hot for us humans, try wearing fur!!

Though summer can be fun it can also be the cause of more injuries and sickness in your pets. And the needs of stray dogs and cats skyrockets even higher. Denise Fleck, founder of Sunny-dog Ink has donated a whole lot of First Aid kits to the Burbank Animal Shelter for each of its transportation vans.

As a teacher of pet first-aid & CPR since 1999, Denise has realized that although she was sending pet owners home with important skills and knowledge, very few were taking the time to assemble their own Pet First-Aid Kit. "Precious time is wasted during an emergency while searching for needed items," said Fleck. "Bandages are in the upstairs bathroom, clean towels down the hall, Hydrogen Peroxide in another cupboard and so on." So with the help of a veterinarian, Denise created her own 60 item Pet First-Aid Kit to help people help their pets.

The contents of the donated kits can aid Animal Control Officers in helping animals en route to the Shelter, before they reach the hands of shelter's medical staff. Some of the items included in the 60-item kits are a digital thermometer, pet electrolyte replenisher, CPR shield, tick remover, cold pack, bandaging materials, antihistamines for bee stings and snake bites, antacids and all the important tools needed to provide temporary care to a dog or cat. A booklet of Quick Tips is included along with a chart on how to perform Rescue Breathing & CPR as well as how to help a choking animal.

Shelter, and Stacie Levin, Burbank Animal Control Officer.

Molly Stretten, President of the Volunteers of the Burbank Animal Shelter stated, "We are grateful to individuals like Denise that provide life-saving tools to assist the staff. Helping abandoned animals in their time of need truly is a community effort."

The email I got also had a link on Hot Weather safety but it didn't work. But I found the correct info here. Scroll down to read the part about pet safety during hot weather. And of course you yourself can buy the pet first aid kit here.
