Pete Carroll's future and Pac-10 expansion are among the topics in this segment.

I know that Monte Kiffin and Pete Carroll had a mentor/disciple relationship, but do you expect to see any fundamental changes on defense this coming year, and if so, what?
A: Kiffin ran more man-to-man coverages than Carroll because he is used to being in the NFL. So I expect the defense to be more aggressive. But it will interesting to see how Kiffin responds to the spread-option offenses he will need to deal with when USC plays teams like Oregon. Also, here's a stat: Norm Chow is 2-0 against Monte Kiffin.

I assume and hope that all USC fans want success for Pete Carroll in Seattle, but what do you think is next for him if he's not successful? I would also assume that all USC fans would not want him coaching any other college except for USC. Would he just retire, or maybe come back to USC and see what's available?
A: I suspect he will be fired within 3 years. At that point, he will likely retire. Or maybe if the USC job opens up, he will receive a phone call depending on who the athletic director is at the time.

Scott, can you explain Michael Cooper's role with the LA Sparks now that he's taken the USC basketball job? Is women's college basketball considered a step up from the WNBA? Does he ever hope to coach men's basketball or does he feel that he's found his niche.
Also, any inside info on how USC view a possible expansion of the Pac-10?
A: Michael Cooper would always coach men's basketball if he were offered a head-coaching position. College basketball is considered a step up from the WNBA if you are at a big school and if you do not mind recruiting and doing all the things necessary when coaching in college. For example, at USC you need to log every phone call you make for the compliance office, which checks phone records. You don't do that in the WNBA.
USC is not enthusiastic about Pac-10 expansion and has not really favored it. Nothing is likely in the short term, from what I hear, as it has not even come up at Pac-10 meetings.

So scott is saying that Carroll will suck in Seattle. Kiffin will probably have a mediocre success at SC. And Garrett will be gone as A.D. this year.
As for the Pac-10 expansion, does anyone know how many schools are in favor? How many are against? And who has the final say? I assume all ten schools' A.D. would take a vote.
Wow why so bitter regarding Carroll? Are you jealous your boyfriend has a crush on him or something?
By the way, Monte faced the spread offense last season against Florida and Auburn.
Against Florida they gave up 23 points (2 TDs and 3 FGs)
Against Auburn they gave up 26 points (2 TDs and 4 FGs)
Not too shabby.
I think expansion would help SC. Only 8 conference games and start scheduling 3 (Notre Dame being the other game) cupcake schools like the SEC does.
Scott, Scott, Scott, where to begin?
once again, readers prove to be more informed than a guy who is paid to be a USC beat reporter
fucla gained 186 yards and had one TD against Tenn, with a 21% 3rd down conversion percentage. The only reason ucla won was because Tenn had 4 TO's (including 3 picks by Crompton). They won IN SPITE of chow's anemic offense, not because of it
If Monte's D holds Chow's O to 186 yards this year, USC will kill them. It won't even be close.
Monte's D also held eventual champ Alabama to 256 yards and 4 FGs (NO TDs) and nearly won except for a last second blocked FG attempt
BTW - Alabama just won the Nat'l title with an OC not named Chow.... I know it disrupts your strange world view, but it happens
Here's a stat:
2007 - Tampa Bay beat Tennessee 13-10, by my calculation that makes Monte 1-1 vs. Chow.
I know facts are hard for you Wolf but Monte wasn't at UT for the first game in the ucla series.
pdxtrojan20...you have provided us (at least by what I've noticed) with more significant relevancy in recent weeks than Wolf could ever dream of producing. I know that you are probably way too busy in your brilliant USC education provided career, to even consider replacing Wolf at this job. lmao..
Wolf, not that it would also be relative in many of your other postings, but I strongly recommend that you get your IT guru to "delete" this entire discussion thread before Dean "The Devil" Singleton sees it, and fires your ass on the spot!
laughing my @ss off at SUC fans excited that Lane and his daddy only lost to Florida and 'Bama by a little. They also lost to UCLA and were humiliated on national TV by the Hokies. Argue all you want, but this coaching staff is a step down from what SC had last year and it's going to show on the field.
spedjones, kiffin development of crompton is almost as good as chow's development of carson palmer. i say almost as good because it was in one year and because tennessee had much less talent on offense than usc did when norm came in. think about what kiffin could have done if crompton were a junior and both were returning to tennessee. carroll has been getting worse and worse with his coaching staff, if you don't think kiffin is a step up from jeremy bates than you're a moron but then again, you are a ucla fan. it's funny that even bates was able to put up 3 offensive td's against your sorry ass team and even funnier that your offensive player of the game, moline, had 15 yards.
thanks, torpedo - just trying to do my part
Jeff from Tarzana is a trojan!
the question i asked was a hypothetical question. if PC is unsuccessful, Wolfie "SUSPECTS" he will be fired.
