Kiffin already ran out his welcome in the NFL in 1 year (although, I will give you that Al David is nuts) and then in the SEC after 1 year (after several infractions in his first few months), now he runs back to the University of Sanctions Coming. Got beat AT HOME by mediocre Bruins (goal-line stand after 4 runs into middle are stopped) and ends season getting totally smoked by V-Tech of average ACC after barely beating Kentucky and Vandy. And the NCAA is already on his ass! I recall being happy like a lot of other Trojan fans when Kiffin bolted to the NFL. Now, he has returned. This is a short-sighted hire to shore up the recruiting class. The long-term ramifications could be awful. Kiffin already racked up a string of secondary violations at UT within the first few months of being hired. How long before Daddy Kiffin retires, and Coach O wants to be a head coach again? I hope I am proven wrong, but today could be a day that USC fans do not remember fondly.

Ugh. Hiring a head coach who was actually ON THE STAFF when Bush was supposedly breaking the rules is not going to help with the investigations. Add in that Kiffin is the opposite of squeaky-clean, and I think that Garrett just guaranteed us heavy sanctions.

I'm kind of excited about this hire. He comes with some swagger and some good assistants. He can recruit. I'd prefer Harbaugh but think this is a better hire than either Rilley or Del Rio.

The guy can recruit. Huge credit for bringing the national championship players to USC. The Guy is relentless with recruiting and kids respond well to his cocky persona. Bringing Monte Kiffin along with the Tampa 2 defense that turned Tennessee into a strong competitor in the SEC. Note: They almost beat Alabama and Florida with the lack of talent compared to the other schools.

Ed Ogeron & Monte Kiffin will turn the defense back to where it once was.

If Kiffin can convince Chow to come back, then I see many more championships for USC in the future.

Can you imagine what Chow could do with Barkley? Heisman trophy in the future for sure. Also, Marc Tyler is going to be a huge asset for USC next year. Can't wait to see everything fall into place next year.

Clearly this is risky given the possibility of sanctions in the coming weeks/months because the university will be under a bigger microscope now that LK has been hired.

But I like the selection - and even more so with the former nucleus of LK, EO, and maybe NC, are in place.

LK & EO can recruit like muthers and the recruits will appreciate their swagger, not to mention the added benefit of a staff with NFL ties.

If the recruiting and the staff materialize, the big question will be whether LK can stay clean. Let's hope he's matured and gained some humility.

Great hire. Most of these posts are from kids who know nothing. I see a BCS championship next year. Chow and Ogeron had a lot to do with USCs last two and it takes Kiff to bring them both back. Carroll leaving is also great timing Since his magic is gone and that was obvious in losses to wash and Stanford. Kiff and Ed will bring back the great recruits and that alone is more important than who is head coach. After USC beat okla to win championship they gave Ed more credit than Pete and the experts gave Norm more credit than Pete and that is why Pete ran them out. It was an ego issue. Now the real gang is back. Great news!

I don't understand how any USC supporter can be upset with the Lane Kiffin hiring. Do any of you remember the last time we were in the BCS Championships? 2004 & 2005.

Is it a coincidence that in both of those seasons Lane Kiffin was our passing game coordinator (2004) and Offensive Coordinator (2005)? I don't think so. The man knows football.

The fact that he is bringing his dad, Monte Kiffin, with him is huge. Anybody that knows football will tell you that Monte is one of the best, if not THE BEST, defensive coordinator in the history of the NFL. The man knows defense!

If you're a bandwagon USC fan, then you probably don't know who Ed Orgeron is. He is probably the best recruiter USC has ever had. Sure he's recruited some big names and maybe those athletes have put USC in a bad spot now, but you can't blame Orgeron for that. I'm sure everyone was jumping up and down, high-fiving everyone and their moms in the stands, when Bush was running wild through every defense he faced. The fact of the matter is Bush screwed us, not Garrett, not Carroll, not Kiffin, not anyone but Bush!

I am ecstatic with the news. Lane, Monte, Orgeron, Chow. The season cannot start soon enough for me!

MG was SERIOUSLY considering candidates that had NEVER coached in CFB, and NEVER recruited.

I don't know how all this future NCAA compliance stuff is going to shake out, but let's pray USC's AD and compliance department are genuinely committed to patroling the football (and BB) programs. It should have happened before...when USC hired a guy who'd never coached college football, ran a loose ship, loaded with future NFL stars, in an evnvironment full of corrupting influences. Better late than never!

Kiff drove me crazy at times as a play caller but as a coach and recruiter he brings energy and is the right fit all around. Just look at the whole package we now have.
