I also support Telfort's efforts to explore his options. The human body is a wonderful thing. And if God wants him to play, like He wants Dez Bryant to go to the NFL, then so be it. Seriously, though, if Telforts heart is okay to play, that would be great for him, I can't imagine having sports taken away from me at that age.

Isn't it up to Telford? If he gets a competent, qualified doctor to approve, then what is to stop him?He is the one undertaking the risk. Cutino Mobley played 11 years for the Clippers before he was forced to quit. Are there other athletes who have this condition, and yet continue to play? Hank Gathers was unaware of his condition. Telfort now is. Gathers' death might have been prevented if a defibrillator was present (which is now required). No one wants to see this young man die. But, ultimately, it's his decision whether he wants to play despite the risk of death. How can you deprive him of that choice? Is he going to regret never giving it a try?

On the flip side, USC probably won't allow him to play unless Telford gets medical clearance and waives liability against USC for letting him play. Will USC need to have a cardiologist present at every practice?

Agree with Mike! I wouldn't give up my career based on one group of doctors' recommendation, especially when those doctors are going to be biased towards the cautious approach. If Frankie has his own experts who clear him, and he signs beefed up liability waivers, let him play! Fight on, Frankie! Any chance you can suit up this weekend?

If Carroll says no then he will just transfer and play somewhere else. If his doctor and parents sign off then it is up to him to choose.

About Inside USC

Scott Wolf has covered USC for the Daily News since 1996. A USC graduate, he covered his first Trojan game in 1984 for the Daily Trojan. Scott is known as the "scourge of the Internet message boards," according to radio host Petros Papadakis. Despite this moniker, there's no truth to the rumor he takes pleasure in antagonizing the "Internet geeks."
