Quarterback Who?

| | Comments (7) |

Here's a look at the motley collection of quarterbacks USC faced in the first half of the season. Just another chapter under the title, ``Caesar's Luck.''

Virginia: Peter Lalich -- transferred to Oregon State.
Ohio State: Todd Boeckman -- benched.
Oregon State: Lyle Moevao -- starter.
Oregon: Jeremiah Masoli -- No. 3 quarterback before season.
Arizona State: Rudy Carpenter -- played hurt, replaced.
Washington State: Kevin Lopina -- Missed several games with injury before USC game.

Not the most imposing group of gunslingers is it. I hope that doesn't mean that our secondary will get exposed this weekend when they face the Throwin' Samoan from Pete's college town, Willie Tuitama.

Okaaay, and your point? Lalich was the starter when we faced Virginia; Ohio St.-Pryor played some against USC and USC shut him down in the second half; Oregon's starting QB was hurt and out for the season before the season started, so doesn't that mean we played against the backup?, AZ St.-yes Carpenter played hurt, but give USC's defense some credit, Scott, last year and this year the defense knocked him out of the game, WASU- not too much you can say there...do you really think any QB from WASU could really help?...don't think so.

Yes, Scott, what is the point? Are you saying that the SC defense got a reprieve all these games from facing...who? Who else do they have. SC has shown that they can fail miserably against a back up quality QB (See Tavita Pritchard: still hasn't played as well as he did in the 2nd half of that damn game last year) and succeed against the best thrower in the league (Rudy last year). Are you trying to say that these are all second rate guys? Boeckman has played in more has won more game than anyone on that list. Rudy C. has thrown for more yards and more TD's than anyone on that list. Lalich transferred because he basically got kicked off the team for conduct unbecoming (sound familiar to any Razorback fans?). Moevao managed the game that the front line won early on (Thanks Nick Holt and Dave Watson; nice job coachin' 'em up). The other guys are affects of a freakish string of injuries.
What is the point?
On Saturday the Trojans get another look at one of the old men in the league. They throw it all over the yard and they have one of the best WR's in the league, and arguably the best TE in the league. He should be poised to have a huge game. Here's the problem, this is the first game that he will actually be called upon to play the game of his life in the biggest game of his life. He's never had to do it before. He has never played for the Pac 10 Championship before. He can facebook all day long with his buddies Pritchard, Moevao, and Masouli but he'll be facing the heat alone. Can he handle it?
Fight On!

Keith 15, you always make insightful comments. I am assuming that you are a former football player? Your analysis is good. I feel good about this game. Seriously, UoA lost to UNM and Stanford. They are definitely not a top 25 team, let's not kid ourselves. NOW, they are a very dangerous team at home capable of beating us. But, SC tends to play up to our competition in big games. We have lost, very surprisingly, to Oregon St twice, UCLA, and Stanford. But, in big games with a natl or conference leader, we have only lost to Oregon recently, and of course, Texas. In the Oregon game, we were using a backup QB and facing arguably the best team in the nation at the time with Dennis Dixon. SINCE UofA is getting hyped as such a dangerous, good opponent, I think our boys will be amped and pop them good. If we were still undefeated, this might be an upset game. But, we have already been humbled, so I think we win by +10.
