Answer Monday!

USC opened up a 10.5-point favorite over Ohio State but then it dropped to nine points.

Q: 54 year old Cindy McCain versus any of the USC Song Girls from this decade in a beauty contest. Who wins?

A: It depends if Cindy wears her $313,000 outfit that she wore at last week's RNC. But maybe she can become a song girl advisor.

Q: You said that Sarah Carmona apologized to former Song Girls for her salacious pictures that have appeared on the internet, but what exactly was the point of that apology? Was she apologizing to the former Song Girls who were also in those pictures? I am not sure what exactly the purpose would be to apologize to former Song Girls but not issue a formal apology to the current squad for damaging their reputation. Any details regarding the apology and the purpose of it would be appreciated.

A: She apologized for embarrassing the Song Girls in general and also to serve as a warning to those with MySpace or Facebook pictures that might come back to haunt them.

Q: Now that football season has started, why do the middle aged overweight internet trolls still whine about cheerleaders?

A: Because it beats talking about Joe McKnight's fumble.

Q: Could you give a factual rationale for dropping USC a spot in your ranking from last week to this week?

A: As I posted last week, I did not drop USC in the polls.

Q: Why did USC schedule a game versus San Jose State for next season? Do you know of any other schools that USC wanted to schedule?

A: Next year's schedule is brutal with road games at Ohio State, Notre Dame, Oregon, Arizona State and Cal. You need a cupcake in there for a break.

Q: How long do you expect Norm Chow and Dwayne Walker to be at FUCLA? I remember reading that FUCLA wouldn't normally be able to afford Norm Chow, but they can this year because the Titans are still paying him $1 million per (year) so the finances work out. Assuming he's not offered a head coaching job somewhere (schools would be crazy not to) can FUCLA still afford him after the Titans are done paying him? And you would have to think that Dwayne Walker would be offered up by someone.

A: I expect Walker to receive a job offer elsewhere after the season. I think this will be Chow's final job. I think the Titans will pay him for 3 more years, so he can work at UCLA with no financial concerns during that time.

How good is that?

Norm Chow to Coach your offense for FREE!

Titans must have benevolent souls. Maybe they could write it off their taxes.

Cindy McCain has integrity so she could never be the Song Girls advisor.

Clever observation about the point spread, but sadly wrong.

First, I feel obligated to point out -- as any time when the issue of point spreads arises -- that point spreads are not some "expert's" view of how the game is likely to end up. It's the sportsbook's analysts' attempt to try and get as many people to bet one side of the wager as the other. If a spread goes down it's simply because more people are taking one side than the other. And as we all know there are PLENTY of reasons why people bet one team or another.

Still, that, however, ISN'T actually happening here (at least so far).

I'm not sure where Scott gets his action but I'd love to know. 9 points is a steal.

Of the seven major internet sportsbooks, two opened yesterday with action on the USC-OSU game: one listing USC as 9 1/2 point favorites and the other listing USC as 10 1/2 point favorites. This morning, those two spreads are unchanged and two MORE sportsbooks have added the game, both listing USC as a ... 10 1/2 point favorite.

So with the exception of whatever sportsbook Scott likes to frequent, the general trend could be said to have seen an increase from an average 10 point spread last night to 10 1/4 this morning.

Norm Chow = Paid to do nothing for the Titans
Vince Young = Paid to do nothing but hurt the Titans.

It is sad for Norm Chow, because if he would have been given the choice he would have had Matt Leinart to Coach at Tenn., but got "stuck" with VY who, although being a great athelete is never going to be a top NFL QB, that Leinart is capable of being. Chow could have helped Leinart while Young made it possible to Coach for free at UCLA.

True, books could care less who wins the game, as long as the money isn't lopsided.

The spread opened at 9 at Caesars, and is anywhere from 10 1/2 to 12 in Vegas.

About Inside USC

Scott Wolf has covered USC for the Daily News since 1996. A USC graduate, he covered his first Trojan game in 1984 for the Daily Trojan. Scott is known as the "scourge of the Internet message boards," according to radio host Petros Papadakis. Despite this moniker, there's no truth to the rumor he takes pleasure in antagonizing the "Internet geeks."
