Rising Star

Although he was not at the Rising Stars camp, linebacker Manti Te'o of Honolulu remains one of the top priorities (along with defensive end Devon Kennard) and USC believes it will be one of his two finalists.

great!! 2 more OVERRATED athletes that will get a free $160,000 education. why do we keep signing these overhyped busts? look how our players turn out in the nfl, they SUCK!!! that piece of crap school across town is turning out better pros than us. i think Pete and his staff aren't as good as advertised. we're just getting good athletes and they are not developing under Pete. even a tool like dorrell could do a better job.

What. What was that? I for one do not care how our boys turn out in the NFL, only how they turn out at ol' SC.

1. Garbage/hot air you can't back-up and statistics destroy your argument(s).
2. Obviously you didn't watch the NFL draft.
3. Check former USC players that have gone to the Pro Bowl vs UCLA since PC took over.
4. Three Heisman's: ZERO UCLA.
5. Please list how many UCLA players have gone in the first round since PC took over.
6. Te'o and Kennard are worth having, period, that is an understatement under any circimstances...

Hey, guys! usc4life has his tongue firmly in cheek. He thinks he's TJ Simers! Ha, ha,ha (I think). Seriously, usc4life, what was that all about?

el capitan, i don't have stats because our guys don't even make the active roster of nfl squads and if they do, they don't play. yeah i watched the nfl draft, but getting drafted high doesn't mean anything. it's what you do on the field, and our kids are doing NOTHING. heisman trophy doesn't equal nfl stud. you're basing your argument on how many players got picked high in the draft compared to ucla. how does that equate to production on the field?

el capitan go ahead and keep wishing those happy thoughts.

TEAMS LEERY OF USC PLAYERS?
Posted by Mike Florio on April 24, 2008, 10:08 p.m. EDT
There’s a growing sense in some league circles that incoming players from the University of Southern California merit extra scrutiny during the endless buildup to the draft.

The concern is that too many of the players who emerge from the Trojan program love the SoCal lifestyle more than they love football.

Though it’s always dangerous to generalize (but what the hell, we’ll do it anyway), there have been a surprising number of busts to emerge from Pete Carroll’s no-pay (by the school) paradise.

In 2003, the Trojans sent a trio of solid players into the league: Carson Palmer, Troy Polamalu, and Justin Fargas. Since then, however, the only guy who has proven to be a consistent high-end talent is linebacker Lofa Tatupu. The growing parade of busts includes Keary Colbert, Shaun Cody, Mike Patterson, Mike Williams, Darnell Bing, Dominique Byrd, Frostee Rucker, Winston Justice, Reggie Bush (relative to his draft status and hype), and Dwayne Jarrett.

UPDATE: Okay, maybe Patterson isn’t a full-blown bust. We were influenced by his pot charge.

As to Matt Leinart and LenDale White, the jury is still out, but might be coming back soon. There already are signs that football isn’t their top priority. Otherwise, White wouldn’t go blowfish in the offseason and Leinart would be exuding the demeanor of a guy who intends to be a starting NFL quarterback for a long time.

Every player is different, but it could be that the same thing that attracts them to play in L.A. is the same thing that makes them more attracted to the perks of being a pro athlete than to doing whatever is necessary to be the best of the best in their profession.

Mr. Floria...what the hell is a "league circle" and how many of them are there? There must be some really stupid people in one or more of these circles, because they drafted a lot of Trojans in this past draft. Do you realize how good you have to be to make an active roster, or practice squad in the NFL? At least you have one follower who takes your word as gospel. I'm guessing these "leery" idiots will draft nine or ten more Trojans in the 2009 NFL draft.

again, just because you get drafted doesn't make you a stud that lived up to the hype. you still don't get it!!

its up to the players to continue to work after they leave USC, so saying Pete doesnt develop his players is BS! these are young men and to be successful they need to be self motivated. all the great players worked on their game and got better because they wanted too, not because of Pete Carroll or anyone else! if you recall, Carroll wanted Mike Williams, Jarrett and Bing (the 3 i can remember that havent panned out in the pros) to stay in school to get better. so usc4life u are placing blame in the wrong place. from the list u made, the only person i think is not achieving like he should is Shaun Cody but he is still in the league, on a active roster.

Scott is known as the "scourge of the Internet message boards," according to radio host Petros Papadakis. Despite this moniker, there's no truth to the rumor he takes pleasure in antagonizing the "Internet geeks."
