Quotables: Bob Palcic
On the offensive line progression:
"This is the best spring we've had since I've been here. I'm pleased with their work ethic - we've had a few more injuries than I would've liked - but I'm happy about the way they're progressing. We're running the ball better. Things are going very well."
On offensive line continuity:
"I think it's huge, that continuity. I have all the players back except Nick Ekbatani, Jake Dean, Xavier - but the nucleus of the line is back, and we've been together now for three years. We're starting to see some rewards and progress for that."
On the early left tackle battle:
"It is too early, but I think Sean Sheller is getting back to the form he showed me my first year here. Then he went through that knee reconstruction, and it's taken him this long to finally get back to his original playing form. I'm hoping he continues to progress. Then Micah Kia comes back in the fall, and we have some depth at the position."
On Wade Yandall enrolling early:
"That's a great advantage for a young kid, because he gets an extra spring. He's going to be a good player. But you know what? You know what I want to do? I want to get this program to where I don't have to play freshmen. At some point in my career here, I'd like to get to the point where I could redshirt the freshmen like normal places. I've had a freshman at left tackle my two years here! That's insanity!"

I'm loving this, last year we wanted improvement and we got it kinda, but this year I think if we stay healthy we move the ball a lot better . Tangible improvement over 4 ypc. That's what we need from our line !
It all starts with the O-line. Lotta ways to construct a successful football program but one thing virtually every successful program has is a deep and talented offensive line. Need to give your defense a breather? Ball control in the fourth quarter, grind out those first downs, eat up the clock. Running game, passing game, health of your quarterback. It all starts with these guys.
Off topic, but i'm still curious about SC fans - how can they reconcile truth with their fb program? Do they just say, 'screw it, Reggie cheated, it caused our success, but I'm ok with cheating to get the job done'. Or do they claim "everybody does it (of course not UCLA), so why shouldn't we?" Or are the majority saying "What evidence is there that we cheated? We are innoccent until proven guilty?"
I'd say give the SC cheating thing a rest. It's not like they were using steroids or a corked bat, or bet against themselves and laid down. As a Bruin I'd be glad to see them get tagged for this so-called cheating stuff. I think it speaks volumes that Mike Garrett is the last one standing (football coach bailed, hoops coach bailed, President bailed) - they KNOW they allow cheating to go on. But Bush, who cares if his family got benefits? It wasn't paid by an SC alum (no Pappa Sam Gilbert has been implicated), and the Range Rover garbage? A guy drives a car - who cares, does thatmean that they have a competitive advantage on the field? Nope. I'd say let them get penalized and then enjoy their penalty, but let's focus on getting better and puttin' a whup on them on the field!

Great minds, apparently, run in the same channel. But really, what are the odds two guys would same the exact same thing? amazing.
To BruinDude and Anonymous
to the two of you who think alike...you do know at least one player has been publicly known to have used steroids. Right? And they don't use corked bats in football. On your assumption that only if you bet against yourself and "laid down" [sic], what if you bet against yourself to win but you win, that doesn't count? Ask Pete Rose what he thinks about that. meaning, your whole logic is flawed...
Let's just say Bush is the most high profile player and the Range Rover is just another example when it comes to these things. This means they were being paid. It means they weren't amateurs, they were professionals...
It means it allowed Petey to recruit like no other and when he had the clear advantage in talent, he could win, but as soon as the playing field was level, he started to crash and burn. He's proven that in New York and in New England. No one thinks he's a good coach when the talent is even. He will suck in Seattle.
But yah, let's focus on UCLA, cause we wouldn't want to give Sc too much attention.
Garrett will not rest 'til he finds the cheater.
