Well, it's official, Barr is a Bruin

Me to Anthony Barr: "You headed to UCLA?"
Barr to me: "Yeh"

Barr's verbal commitment to UCLA is absolutely huge, no matter the position. The kid is just a player. If he ends up competing with Malcolm Jones and Jordon James at running back, if he switches to linebacker, if he bulks up and plays tight end, whatever - he's a ballplayer.

He and I will talk tonight or tomorrow about the decision, but in the meantime, here's his recruiting profile and a Youtube video. Check out that first run, and his burst at the second level.

I have a feeling this one may not be over until NSD since his family has such stong ties to the Irish.

I told you guys Barr was a lock. Welcome HOME AB, bring on Heimulu, Marsh, Pullard, Jefferson, Owa and hopefully Zumwalt or Shirley.

Interesting that Scout now has him listed as an OLB and not RB. The guy can almost play anywhere. He would be a bruising RB or FB, but it's where someone could make the BIGGEST impact and considering our depth at RB, I think being MLB and the QB of the defense, would serve him and us best.

Just watched the highlight clip...wow. Glad he's coming to play for UCLA. His second burst is pretty sick. Thanks for the link!

Jon, it's not official till he signs. Just saying, be accurate.

If theres any chance of the “monopoly” being over its gonna take more than just Barr to resurrect the carcass that is...UCLA FOOTBALL!

Gold wasn't saying he officially signed, you fucking idiot. He was saying it was official that he verballed. My god, some of you people are just such assholes for no reason.

Gold, way to get on top of this. Thanks.

IS IT AS OFFICIAL AS NOTTINGHAM???

Hoping he ends up on D because the last thing UCLA needs is another 4* skill player. Let's beef up the defense!

It is not offical until NSD, however, I will take Barr on his word. Welcome to UCLA! Nice recruiting by CRN.

Finally decided to create a username after checking this site for the last few years several times a day. I am pumped about Barr, but think defense is where he'll probably end up. Anyone know what ND was recruiting him as? Perhaps that swayed his decision?

ND wanted him to play WR

Nizzle, some people are saying Kelly wanted him as a WR but i don't think thats what swayed him here. He seemed a bruin lean since the beginning

There was nothing we could do about Nottingham, his boyfriend got accepted to Stanford as well, after that, we never had a shot.

Pasadena bruin you're dreaming, all but two of those you named are going elsewhere, and let's see rivals top 100 today 8 Trojans , 2 of the top 6, and you've got jones at #87! stiff armed? Like last year with Carroll and pressley? What steals eh? Well finish #1

funny how all these "anonymous" trojan fans litter the blogs of a team that went to the Eagle Bank Bowl...Makes me wonder if they're afraid of something...like Jennifer Aniston saying she wasn't worried about then-husband Brad Pitt co-starring with Angelina Jolie...d'oh!

PasadenaRUIN you should listen to Anon 7:43 he/she is speaking the truth. You know just like all the other bruins we dont need any of those guys you named to SMASH ya'll EVERY YEAR! But with that being said, we'll still probably end up with at least half of those prospects you mentioned!

Malibu Grad Student Author Profile Page said:

$uckaFREAK - even if you end up with ALL those recruits, you'll still end up in the Emerald Bowl.

I think it's time to close the chapter on Nottingham. I am an alumnus of Monte Vista and saw him in a few games. Not even as good as Kyle Wright was before going to Miami- overrated...

As you awake in SoCal, here's the latest projections for players named on Jon's blog that are still undecided. Two Scout touters project the leanings:

Heimuli - UCLA
Pullard - UCLA
Jefferson - UCLA
Marsh - LSU (commit)
Owa - Nebraska or Oregon
Zumwalt - Stanford
Shirley - USC
Reilly - USC
Dargen - Oregon

The facts don't support an argument that in 2010, SC still owns us in recruiting.

Let's take a moment to break this down. As reference, I'm using Scout.com's team recruiting rankings for the past five years.

UCLA:
09 - #5
08 - #10
07 - #36
06 - #20
05 - #24

USC:
09 - #10
08 - #10
07 - #2
06 - #1
05 - #6

See a pattern here? UCLA's numbers are rising, while USC's numbers are flat, or have dipped. To give SC credit (and to hold myself accountable to the facts), however, SC is still doing well.

My point: RECRUITING IS EVENING OUT, and the trend is very good. Those kids from the past two classes (both top 10 classes for us), are the ones who will be our sophomores and juniors this year.

Also, notice what happened to recruiting for UCLA when we landed Chow? The numbers jumped from the 20s and 30s to two top 10 classes in a row. That is exactly the reason that the SC blogs were blazing a week and a half ago, right after the Kiffin hire was made. The SC fans were saying, "This is a horrible hire unless we can land Chow." Or, "Chow is huge."

So yes, retaining Chow--if only for his recruiting strengths, and his Pacific Rim ties--cannot be understated.

It is a very good time to be a Bruin.
