Weekly Answers, Pt. 3
1) Would you project Kia as a starter on next year's O-Line? - sandiegobruinfanToo early to tell. Definitely in the rotation.
2) If Prince beats out Brehaut for the starting job in this spring's practice, would Brehaut consider transferring? - sandiegobruinfan
I'm sure he would consider it.
3) Are you a UCLA basketball curse?- anonymous
Yes. Yes, I am.
4) Have you considered making the questions section a once-a-month thing? How many times can you answer "do you expect any commitments this weekend" questions? Totally unrelated, will Shirley commit this weekend? - spedjones
About as many times as I can answer, "Have you called Uko's coach yet?" Oh crap, I should probably go call Uko's coach. While difficult and ultimately fruitless, based on how quickly things change in the recruiting world, the Q&A has become an integral part of the blog. I hope to keep it that way. From what I've heard, UCLA and Shirley cooled on each other, as UCLA got major interest from other linebackers.
5) How were Capella and Able playing by the end of the year? Are they viable options for next year on OL? Is there a chance of seeing Able on D-line as that was his preference coming in? - Resource Guy
I think Abele will get a strong look next year to start. Capella, maybe the year after.
6) Who do you think will be the starting RB next year? Do you expect Knox to transfer if he doesn't win the job? - Anonymous
Franklin, and no. I expect Chow to use Knox better next year.
7) I heard that we have different AWAY Football jerseys next season? What are the changes, what do they look like? - Michael
All I know is a darker blue.
8) Not sure if I can ask a second question...if so, here it is: When Drew Gordon was allowed to leave UCLA, was this contingent upon him not playing for another pac10 school? Is that something a school can do? - BruinInSeattle
I'm not sure if it was "official," but that was almost certainly a stipulation when he was let out of his scholarship.
9) Why doesnt UCLA hire a competent play by play man instead of Chris Roberts? Is it a money issue? - Anonymous
I haven't listened to Chris on the radio, but I know his institutional knowledge is unparalleled. He is a pleasure to work with, and he knows - and cares. Really cares. - about UCLA.
10) Accounting for Price leaving for the NFL, and the handful of juniors that were leaving the team, how many scholarhsips are still available for the current recruiting class? - PowderBlueBalls
First of all, that name...solid. Second, I believe the number is at 26. I could be off.

anon: ??? hey chris roberts is one of the best! my guess is some out of work broadcaster posted that. roberts is perfect for college basketball: an enthusiatic homer. for the pro game, more objectivity is preferred, for UCLA roberts is the man!

Roberts seems like a really nice guy and has a pleasant voice, but the problem with his play-by-play is that instead of telling us the immediate result of the play, whether it's football or basketball, we have to rely on the crowd's reaction while Chris is busy describing unneccessary details. I believe we should get results first and details later.
Roberts may be nice- but his play by play is really lacking. He is late on everything he says and you die waiting to hear the score as he never says it enough. He is pretty cliche- I know what he will say about everyone- he loves to say players' high schools over and over and has some goofy sayings that make no sense. I remember when Chris Johnson did the tofu diet...Roberts spoke of it 24/7- maybe he can suggest it to Bobo. Roberts needs to improve!
If you dont know, charlie bucket is being sarcastic.
There are long long threads on UCLA boards about how awful Chris is at play by play.
He may be a nice guy, but he's one of the worst play by play ive ever heard.
dammn, we missed out on willis, but hope for another recruit.
JON GOLD:
You had reported UCLA was close to closing the deal on a big recruit (defense I think). Is this still the case, or were any of the Army kids that went elsewhere 'the one' ?
@ not dead yet:
UCLA never offered Demetrius Wright, silly Trojie. Last summer, Wright said that he would commit to UCLA if UCLA offered. But, UCLA didn't for whatever reason and Wright had to settle on USC.
Wright had a pretty BIG grade issue
