To clarify
* As of 9:13 pacific time, Norm Chow is the offensive coordinator for UCLA.
* USC is throwing piles of money at him to come join Kiffin's crew.
* He has not accepted anything, and reports he had were premature.
* My choice of words for the headline earlier was incorrect. For that I apologize. In this 24-hour news cycle, when I hear the same thing from multiple sources, and none from others, I try to keep up with it.
* At this stage, the best way to put it: USC is wooing him. Negotiations might not even be the right term, either.
* I'll stay on top of it, but I'm also doing instant updates on Twitter (@thecoolsub) and on Facebook, where I'm also chatting with blog readers. Feel free to add me or add the Inside UCLA fan page.
Thanks guys
Jon

Thanks for the clarifications and the updates.
Thanks for being honest and outright with it Jon. You have gained my respect. I'm glad you didn't just pretend it didn't happen and moved on taking us for fools.
Jon,
Do you have any info on the terms of Norm's contract? Is it like Kiffin's in the sense that he can just pay his way out or does UCLA have any say in this?
thanks Jon, stay on top of it, don't let info-hungry readers get you down when they say negative things. you're appreciated.
Keeping Chow against his will seems untenable. So UCLA prevents him from taking the job and...what? We tie him to a chair and force him to call plays against his will? Refuse to terminate him, but remove play-calling? Stick him in an unlit closet next to the practice facility?
Silliness. If he wants to go, UCLA exacts a hearty chunk of change from SC on the buyout and Chow is burned in effigy across Westwood.
Thanks for being accountable, speaks volumes, most reporters wouldnt
Nice reporting Jon. What about checking your sources
real simple either you are a bruin or a toejam....
Jon, lots of Jon Golds on Facebook. Which one are you?
It just sounds like he is holding out for more money, frankly I would do it too. He will be gone by Wed. Why stay? If ucla doesn't offer an extension, what good is it that he stays for only one more year on a very young team? If going to leave, leave now.
I hope there's a way you can ban the A-holes above, Jon.

u are free to get lost and go somewhere else. go crying to ur mommy and dont ever show up on this board again. thankless, classless fans go elsewhere please.
Scott Wolfe reports (if you can call it that) that Chow is in Florida. It's 12:45 there and he is not a young man. Is it possible this won't be resolved until tomorrow?

Calm down. I'm sure it's hard to adjust to this new era in journalism in which the race to be first crashes against the massive trash heap that is twitter and facebook and all that noise.
Needed more due diligence isn't the same as losing all credibility. Hyperbolic much?
And I'm sure you don't smell bad, Jon. Benefit of the doubt.
Thanks for your hard work
Anybody think Chow hates Kiffin so much that he was messing with him the whole time and never intended to head back to SUC?
USC is making great strides today to put together a dream team of coaches who can restore the glory days to their football program. Reports have it that Mike Garrett bailed OJ Simpson out of jail today and he will be their new running backs coach. Additionally, Lance Kiffin has just hired a former Trojan to be the new coach for strength and conditioning, Mark Maguire.
That's accountability Jon. Thanks for your work.
Just keep doing your best man. Appreciate any updates you've got. Don't listen to the haters!
I appreciate the updates Jon. Thanks again.
PER LA TIMES,
Unfortunately for us they pay both their coaches and their players NFL Type money. Bad for us.
I have a feeling $UC will pay him whatever it takes to get his services and he'll be gone by tomorrow.
Rick is going to have his work cut out this weekend...
I thought Chow said that it wasn't about the money. I also thought that his relationship wasn't that great. Is the relationship with CRN getting that sour? Do you really want to be at a place that kicked you out? That place backed PC, so they backed PC getting rid of Chow. Do want to be around the reminders of PC? Do want to be bossed by Kiffin? Really? I hope he doesn't go, but if he wants to, all power to him. We'll be alright.
"On top of this, Lane Kiffin and Chow barely spoke and had at best a strained and sometimes hostile relationship. Remember the argument during the 2004 Orange Bowl practices in Florida?"

Maybe they bury the hatchet. Perhaps Chow wants to stick it to Carroll. But, I still think it would take a lot of money to get him to come back after being run out of town.
I have met members of Chow's family through a friend of mine who is a grad asst. In conversations I have had with them, they have not thought highly of Kiffin: "Not a good person." That being said, 7 figures has a way to change things.
John Wooden was a golden coach with a golden word. Money could not buy him away from UCLA because he had a commitment. Makes you wonder about honor and the false prestige of USC. Do anything, pay anything, to win, rules or respect be damned. What goes around comes around and their day will come. Hopefully NCAA sanctions will be for no less than four years.
absolutely correct, Blue Critter, Coach Wooden could not be bought.
As for Kiffin, Al Davis was correct. He was way out of his league in the SEC and will be the sacrificial lamb when the NCAA brings the hammer down. The only thing going for him is that his dad follows him around to bail him out.
Can't imagine that Norm Chow would associate with Lame.
Man this situation is starting to unfold like a soap opera.
As a USC fan I am still surprised that Lane was hired as the HC but he was mainly hired b/c he would bring in Ed Orgeron (USC favorite) and Monte Kiffin on his staff.
I've read the later posted blog and I am surprised that coach O texted the early enrollees to miss class and try to go to USC b/c I doubt that the QBs will head out west considering that Barkley is the starter and Scroggins is part of this recruiting class.
Anyhoo, does anybody really know if Chow is staying or leaving? The only way I see him leaving is if he is offered at least $1M and have total control of the offense and its staff along with a nice buyout clause if the friction b/w Lane and Chow are horrendous (as already suspected). Unless the relationship b/w Chow and RN is worse than with Kiffin.
No matter what is written here Chow will be back at SC by the end of the week...UCLA wont put up the dollars and SC will...but when it all comes down to it they will have sactions put against them probably just like their basketball team by the time football starts...and all his insanity will be a waste...Im just gald Carroll is out of LA what a tool!
