Confirmed: Shaq Richardson verbally commits to UCLA

| | Comments (23) |

Los Alamitos cornerback Shaquille Richardson - scout.com's No. 31 cornerback - has committed to UCLA.

Here's his profile: Shaq Richardson

All reports on the kid are positive, and he had solid stats this year, finishing with six interceptions.

Don't forget, he's also the cousin of Serra wideout Paul Richardson, a four-star prospect. Could be a tandem deal coming up.

UPDATE: An inside source at UCLA just told me of Paul Richardson: "He's close but he's not ready to pull the trigger. I think he just wants to go on a couple of trips."

Coach Rick continues to impress with his recruiting ability. This class is shaping up to be a top tier group nationally!

I don't know if the Richardson constitute a national top tier class, let him get Uko, Riley, etc... guys being rcruited by the Floridas and Bamas and Texas of ht world and I'll crown him recruiting king.

Careful Jon with the use of the term "orally." We don't want another thread like the "Just to Clarify" one that was so popular last week. What are the chances that UB's phone number is plastered all over West Hollywood?

He's a three star recruit.

Ok get I guess. Not sure he's an upgrade over the talent we've got now. Looks like were going to have a subpar class of OLmen as well. Hope we get Shirley and Pullard and uko and another top DL. We'll see though

Good pickup. Richardson was DB MVP at Nike Camp. He could do with a RS season to get his weight up a bit, but should be a solid contributor in the future. Shaq also had offers from 3 schools that finished above UCLA and the other had the best defense in the conference.

Hey samohopar, have you heard of Jordon James, Malcolm Jones, Aramide Olaniyan, Julious Moore, Kip Smith, and Brett Nottingham?

They are all top players and have committed to UCLA. That's what I mean by a national top tier class. Plus, there are more to come.

Nice! Richardson = Nike Camp MVP + tons of offers. Great get

Good get! I was worried out defensive recruiting would slip when walker left, but that doesn't seem to be the case.
They key to winning is getting 3 and 4 star kids to play like 5 star kids. No one builds an entire program full of 5 star recruits.
I'm pretty sure TCU has no 5 star recruits. Nor Boise St. Its about developing the talent you bring in.
Richardson welcome to UCLA! We are happy to have you!

Saw this kid play several times...and he is a great player. He will contribute and by his JR/SR year be a top PAC 10 player no question.

orally committed? better than an anal commitment for sure. I think the word you're searching for, Jon, is verbally.

Jon Gold Author Profile Page said:

No, spedjones, our newspaper's style on commitments is oral commitments, not verbal commitments.

spedjones Author Profile Page said:

of course it is... verbal is, however, the style preferred by the rest of the world (mainly because it doesn't set the stage for anal jokes).

oldflkglk said:

i'm never going to think about "oral commitment" without giggling ever again. thanks guys. jerks.

MaltBaa Author Profile Page said:

orally committed is not grammatically incorrect... and linking oral to anal in this situation is humor on a middle school level. c'mon raise your game a bit guys.. it just comes off as your picking on jg for everything he does, dont be punks

internet punks at that

Hey Shaq - Make sure you bring Pauly with you. Make it happen!!!

spedjones Author Profile Page said:

Please. Middle-school level? Anal jokes were funny in college and beyond. My wife still laughs at them. Get over yourself. As for Anon posting about Shaq's 1000 SAT, that's likely on the 1600 scale schools actually care about, not the full scale. I'm sure that beats about 95% of SC's recruits this year.

Your data is extremely skewed and prejudiced, rare exceptions notwithstanding. All Americans awards are usually based on numbers rather than talent. Big numbers could be an indicator of a lack of depth at a program.

As I have stated before, many many times, stars DO matter and the data does support it. Everyone has busts, they are going to happen. However, the more 4 and 5 Star talent you bring in, the more busts you can absorb, and the better overall talent and competition in your program.

Bottom line, the last 7 NCs have been won by the Top 7 teams in 4 and 5 Star players recruited. Here is the list for your review and the results are irrefutable. I don't care about how many All Americans had lower than 5 or 4 stars. It's about NCs. Give me NCs over All Americans ANY DAY.

Good thing CRN is raising the level of talent coming into UCLA, as evidenced by the number of 4 and 5 Star recruits he is bringing in. I know some of you will still relent, and I agree you recruit the talent that fits your program and not necessarily Stars, but the data dictates that to be a NC caliber team, you MUST have a significant number of 4 and 5 Star athletes. Enough said.
