REEVES NELSON UPDATE:
UCLA freshman forward Reeves Nelson, who was poked in the eye in the second half of the Bruins' 73-61 loss to No. 1 Kansas on Sunday afternoon, was taken immediately after the game to the Ronald Reagan UCLA Medical Center.
Reeves has a corneal abrasion and some swelling in his right eye. He will miss three to four days and will be revaluated after the swelling goes down. UCLA's medical staff is optimistic he will be available to play when the Bruins face Mississippi State in the John R. Wooden Classic on Dec. 12 at Honda Center.

What a Warrior this kid is to stay in the game after such a painful injury. The more I see and hear, the more I'm glad DG is gone and that we will have more of Nelson.
I had one of these when I went to UCLA. Although temporarily painful, it is not serious or long lasting. Your eye feels very tender, sore, and like it's on fire for a few days and gets better from there. Your eyes get very watery and are sensitive to light.
this may seem pretty corny and dated (very 90s reference coming up...)
but maybe reeves' anthem should be that Chumbawamba single, "Tubthumping". maybe someone can re-write a couple of the verses to be fitting to the sport.
Geez the comparisons to Aboya are crazy!
The rebounding tenacity, the physicality in the low post, now the eye injuries that will require those insane yellow goggles. Haha. GO RN!!!!
...plus, they're both big black dudes...
Reformed Droog,
lol! funny stuff
Reeves has a much more polished offensive game than Aboya ever will. RN has great upside and looked great playing out of position at center. What heart he showed. That was missing with before. He inspires the rest of the team.
I love Nelson's blue collar work ethic. I hope his eye heals okay and he can continue to develop for us.
Jon-the broadcasters of the UCLA-Kansas game mentioned that UCLA was looking at Ray McCallum and a JuCo kid (forgot his name) as point guards we are recruiting. Do you have any info on this JuCo kid? It's the first I have heard of anyone aside from McCallum.
RN does have more upside than AA. Better rebounder and better offense. If he improves on defense we're in good shape.
The team looked different out there. More like a real team pulling together. It's tough to pinpoint what the difference was, but we're gonna be OK.
Some swelling? Looks like he could audition for a Rocky movie.
