Post-practice update

A rowdy practice tonight for the Bruins, who know full well what a win over Arizona State means to the season.
The more and more UCLA is in the news with big recruits and winning streaks, the higher their national profile, and the better chance for an at-large bowl bid.

Saturday's game against Arizona State - with which ranks No. 15 in total defense in the country - is of utmost importance.

* Jerzy Siewierski saw a much increased workload as his status was determined "as tolerated," for practice, which means he determined his practice time.
* Ryan Taylor did not practice with a spranied foot and is still highly doubtful.
* Aaron Hester practiced extensively but still needs to "get his confidence back."
* In his Pac-10 conference call this morning, Arizona State head coach Dennis Erickson addressed his quarterback issue, whereas Samson Szakacsy played the second half against Oregon last week.
"I haven't decided yet. I'll let them practice today and tomorrow and make a decision. Right now, Samson will get some looks with the one. We've just never seen him - he's been hurt all the time. We're going to let him take that first group quite a few times."

what's going on with this blog? It used to be the first place I come to check to get information, but now I can go elsewhere to find bruin information sooner. There were 3 posts yesterday and one of those was a poll.

There are usually no posts earlier than noon. You'll probably check so you did post once this week at almost 11am.

I'm just a die hard bruin fan wanting more inside stuff. Inside ucla information! You can get to places, speak to people, and find out stuff, us normal non-press people can't. You posted so much when you were trying to get this job. I hope we see more of it!

Hey, Anonymous 11/17 at 9:09 pm-

Surprised you didn't short out your computer with all your crying.

What do you pay for this blog? Do you subscribe to the Daily News? Where do you get this sense of entitlement?

I am also a die-hard Bruin fan, but not to the point of wanting to subscribe to the pay sites. Therefore, I settle for what I can get for free. I don't pretend to know what Jon Gold does with his day, what responsibilities he has other than giving us free info on his blog, and I certainly don't feel as though he owes me anything.

Quit being a whiny, anonymous little squid. Go get a hug from your mommy, you need it.

I get the sense that Jon doesn't have the recruiting connections that Dohn used to have (I believe he has all but admitted that). That makes up a large percentage of the questions that Dohn used to answer and posts he used to make, leaving mainly practice, gameday, in game and post game quotes and articles. BTW, I like some of the "original content" that Jon has provided, like "I-Kia" and think he's done nice job of injecting "his take". Even when I disagree with him I appreciate the perspective of someone who is there every day and has played the game, at least on the football side. I hope that as he builds up more connections he will be able to provide more posts and have better insider information. Until then, you get what you pay for!
