UCLA suspends four for Kansas State game

| | Comments (25) |

From UCLA media relations:

UCLA head coach Rick Neuheisel announded today that four players have been suspended from the team due to a violation of team rules and will miss this Saturday's game against Kansas State.

Sophomore cornerback Courtney Viney, freshman running back Milton Knox and freshman wide receivers Morrell Presley and Randall Carroll will sit out the Kansas State game. The players will participate in team practices during the suspension.

"When you are a member of a team, you have a special commitment to the entities that make up that unit and to those that you represent," said coach Neuheisel. "When someone falls short in that regard, there have to be consequences, and then, we move on."

Wow! Those are four players who were major contributors in the last game. They are all relatively young, so let's hope this is a learning experience for them.

Who's our backup to the backup cornerback?

Well this is certainly deflating.

Wow! OK you young 'uns, grow up! Fast! Who's next on the depth chart behind Viney?

Backup to Viney is Sheldon Price. But it might be Abbott if the coaches choose to go in that direction...

We're looking at FR Sheldon Price (22) and R-FR Andrew Abbott (25).

My best guess is that Andrew Abbott will get the nod over the true freshman Marlon Pollard, Sheldon Price, or Brandon Sermons.

Correction: Andrew Abbott (26)

If there is a game you can suspend 4 players to impart a lesson while likely still winning the game, it is this one. Hope the Bruins win, the players learn their lesson, Prince's jaw starts to mend, and let's get to the bye week already...crazy last few days.

These kids should know that more than just the money he could be saving with Geico are watching CRN like a hawk.

We've been on permanent "public eyes probation" since Rick came to town and as a result he MUST be swift and stern with his disciplining of his players.

Hopefully they got their *drank* out of their system and can gain some perspective from watching a game in street clothes.

Marlon Pollard was listed 3rd on the depth chart....

...on the left side at least

Check out what UT interim President, Jan Simek, had to say about UCLA:

"Lane comes from the Pac-10, which in many respects is the epitome of great academics and great athletics, as this past weekend showed on several different levels, including to us. When we lost to UCLA, we lost to a better academic institution, too."

Sounds to me like they were celebrating a bit too much after the UT win. Losing Viney obviously hurts more than the rest. Hopefully Abbott/Pollard step up against KSU.

Good to see Coach Rick wielding the quick, hard cane. They better grow up and play like men.

Hopefully this K-State team is weak enough for UCLA to still get a win.

K-State has really fallen off dramatically from where they were ten years ago. I know the Wildcats were optimistic that brining back Bill Snyder would turn back the clock to their glory era of the late 90's but fortunately for UCLA it looks like Snyder's too old and the Wildcats don't yet have the talent to compete with UCLA.

I wouldn't be surprised if these four young guys were caught out drinking or with weed. I'm confident they'll get their acts together. Hopefully their absence doesn't cost the Bruins a W.

While I applaud CRN for his swift decision, maybe he should take a page out of Petey's book and make these kids run extra laps.

Wasn't Rey Rey drunk when he punched that kid and busted up his face? What did he get? One quarter suspension? $UC wins 90-95% of their games, but ESPN, who is on their sack, never analyzes how Petey's program is full of kids who break the rules and laws, and they are never punished by their coach.

I just hope UCLA doesn't lose because Viney's replacement gives up a big TD.

Cheapshot Fat-aluga "owns the police!" so accordingly, he should not face any legal consequences for his actions.

Neu-Hassle doing it right, proving he has learned from minor mistakes of the past.

while Chetey Petey has been oh-so-slippery, when the NCAA finally catches up with him, oh how he will fall.

Consistency is the key to successful discipline.CRN is showing this in his approach to building a winner and he will be successful.

I'm gonna miss seeing Knox on those screen plays. Everytime he touched the ball it was a first down in the bank. Crap!! But rules are rules they'll learn their lesson. It's a low low feeling to see your performing without you. Anybody who's ever been an athlete in team sports know this. Key injuries, suspensions, tough competiton, fan expectations... The coaches have their work cut out.. Go Bruins!!!

It's very refreshing to see a coach hold his players responsible. If pete did the same in south central they might not be able to field a team on saturdays.

maui13 & uclan STFU! stop referring to USC and making up lies about their players breaking rules and laws and not getting punished. are u familiar with Carroll's rules? WHO broke the law and didnt get punished? Maualuga's incident happened 4 yrs ago, does anyone really remember what happened or was there to see what happened? Because u hate them, dont make up lies on KIDS, im tired of seeing it. Neuheisel didnt punish his TE at Washington but im glad to see him trying to be a disciplinarian NOW. Pressely and the bunch broke team rules and will suffer sitting for one game and haters want to lie about kids in another program. Focus on your team and stop hating like lil bit#hes. why do u care so much about whats going on in another program?? This happens on other message boards and i say the same thing there, so start with the USC crap and why you are on this board!!!
