More Fauria stuff

| | Comments (34) |

Here is the story I wrote on former Notre Dame tight end Joseph Fauria transferring to UCLA.
Also, I know there are some reports stating Fauria was suspended by Notre Dame for streaking, but he said that was not accurate.
Right now, I'm not at liberty to say why he was suspended by the school, but from what I was told from sources, streaking wasn't part of it.

Brian, when are you going to start your twitter?

you do tremendous work brian but i believe you deserve a day off for the fourth. SO i hope this is the last post of the day, although i will continue to check just in case it is not.

Here is a link to a story about fauria (although the writer claims streaking was the reason for him transfering)

I streaked up and down Levering and Midvale several times during my undergraduate years. When I start graduate school in the fall at the Claremont Colleges, i intend on continuing my youthful spirit. HE'S A KID! IT'S COLLEGE. Relax you old dopes.

Crime and Punishment said:

If you read the blog about Fauria, seems streaking had nothing to do with it. He was TWICE found to be doing something of a deviant sexual nature on campus, and the second time he was booted.

Yes, he will fit in with the Westweird bunch just nicely, thank you.

The truth hurts.

It "seems" you weren't taught how to determine a reliable source of information at the University of South Central.

We're having a fun time enjoying some sweet veggie burgers and we thought we'd have ourselves a REAL laugh, hehehe. Your new Teddie is a bit of a hmmm, well, more like someone the trOJies would like. Blech =( =( =( . No matter baby brothers, we're still going to put the whoopin on ya, by at least 20 points, hehehe. Must go now, fun, fun, fun!!! Have a nice 4th of July =) =) =) Maybe I'll check in on you all later just to make sure you're all behaving, hehehe!!!

Dohn you're always talking about your ethics as a reporter that don't allow you to write about unconfirmed things or let you engage in speculation about recruits. yet here you infer you have information but choose not to disclose it. in addition, you confirm its NOT streaking, allowing everyone to think that its something worse.

its weak to approach it that way. if you're going to address it all all, address it with the info you have and don't play little reporter games. the better approach would be to just not address it at all until you can be comprehensive. better luck next time.

Was he caught wackin' like a spider monkey?

Here is the rumor:

(from the ND blog)Fauria came up behind a male tutor and simulated sex. That was his first offense. He was punished, and it fit the crime.

The problem was he continued and committed a second infraction, this one a minor sexual act against a university official."

Now lets put these both in perspective. Obviously, neither offense could have been THAT bad since nobody is pressing charges for sexual harassment, assault or battery. Sounds like a typical college freshman playing grab-ass in a dorm hall and a tough ResLife department coming down way too hard on a kid for not acting like a good lil' Catholic boy.

double standard said:

What would you all say about a kid who was suspended by a major university for multiple improper sexual acts if he transfered to USC?

Anonymous said:

"Multiple improper sexual acts?"
Get real. The kid was messing around, ran afoul of Catholic University's dorm rules, and was punished.
He did not break the law. He broke the dorm rules.
This is nothing like when Sanchez was investigated by the LAPD for sexual assault.

So all people really know is that he's transferring and (according to Dohn) his suspension wasn't for streaking.

Does anyone actually know what it was he did and if it was more than once?

maltbaa come on man... we really don't need a repeat of the last time she filled in. It's just the offseason right now, I think we can all relax and understand that she is a temporary replacement.

Regarding young Joseph Fauria and his 'infraction'...as a coach, I know plenty of high-jinx go on in the locker room, and that's part and parcel of being around energetic, very physical young men. Now, if Joseph actually forced himself on another person outside the sanctuary of the locker room, well, that's something different and should be dealt with accordingly. As no charges have been laid, I suspect the offense was nothing to get overly concerned about. Time will tell, but for the moment, I welcome the young man to our Bruin football team. His uncle was one heck of a TE.

Funny you mention he might fit in at SUC, but isn't Cal the school of the Naked Guy?

Nice prediction, but when was the last time Cal beat UCLA by 20 points in ANY sport? That's what I thought.

Reality bites said:

With all due respect, none of us know the truth and are purely speculating on what the real issues are/were. We all know that just because someone posted a comment in a blog doesn't mean it has any semblance to reality; this is all hearsay. UCLA wouldn't admit the kid if there were any serious infractions at stake.

At the very least, it'll be interesting to see how great one of those highly rated high school football players can be when they're actually coached well.

Charlie Weis can recruit like no other (on the backs of CFB history and his Super Bowl fame, anyways), but I don't see why kids keep flocking to his program when it's clear there isn't a lot of real development happening there.

Maybe that's not entirely fair, but if ND has another terrible season it'll really blow my mind if his recruiting streak continues...

I think you must have missed something...he is transfering to UCLA.

I wonder if Fauria can get past UCLA Admissions. Notre Dame isn't exactly Harvard or UCLA. Good luck to the kid.

I think Dohn was mistaken when he said that $c doesn't care about ULCA in the last Q&A. They obviously care quite a bit considering how often the read and comment on this blog...

Notre Dame has fairly rigid admissions standards. If Joseph was keeping up his GPA at ND, he'll be admitted here.

All I can say is Fauria seems to have misbahaved at school. This is not good. But it is not criminal. I think he will do better in a school closer to home and with at least one former teammate, who happens to be the leader of the first team. Our gain !

why is nobody saying what "high-jinx" he got into?

the blue and gold nd blog indicates that he was caught having sex with his girlfriend. their reslife is not only antiquated, but draconian. seems like he's just the victim of a stupid school policy. posters on there seem pretty upset about the kid leaving. he's a good kid and a great player. stop with the outlandish speculation

Your new Teddie will make it through lala admissions office for sure... all you're going to ask him is like, what color is the Teddy uniform? Uhm, blue??? You're IN!!! hehehe =P =P =P
Silly Teddies!!!

Last time Cal beat UCLA in Pasadena: 1993.

UCLA Scholar- although I bleed for UCLA, I have to correct you on this one... ND is consistently ranked higher than UCLA (undergrad anyway). I also beleive that their admissions standards are at least as stringent as UCLA's, if not more so.

Hello, Sarcasm

Glad to meet up with you.

Although I don't allow sarcastic outbursts during my team's training sessions, I welcome them on blogs such as this. Keeps the mind alert and the focus keen.

Dallas Bruin, you are absolutely correct. ND has a very high and stringent scholastic admissions standard for all its students. We not only have to compete in recruiting against the institutions that offer majors in basket weaving and slam-dunking coeds off campus, but we have to go toe to toe with academically diligent universities such as Stanford, ND, and Rutgers.

We are on the rise, people. National championship is just a couple of years away.

About Inside UCLA

This is Brian Dohn's sixth season covering UCLA after spending 4 1/2 years covering the Dodgers for the Daily News and other Los Angeles Newspaper Group papers. He graduated from Rutgers, where the first college football game was played in 1869. Sure, the Scarlet Knights suffered for a long time, but now RU is doing what Jerseyans always thought was possible. Winning at Rutgers also proves winning is possible everywhere else in the nation, so underachieving coaches better be careful. Now, if only men's hoops can turn it around.
