3-day camp update

| | Comments (3) |

Was out at UCLA watching the three-day camp, and there are not a lot of prospects (nor are there supposed to be since many of them came to the one-day camp earlier this month).
However, class of 2011 receiver Devon Blackmon (Summit High) was there and could receive a UCLA offer shortly. He looked a bit tired since he just flew in from the Oregon camp, but his athleticism was noticeable.
Also, defensive lineman Kirifi Taula (Servite High) showed some skill and, from what I'm hearing, UCLA could offer him soon.
The quarterbacks weren't anything special, although the coaching staff seemed to keep an eye on Tyler Shreve (Redlands East Valley) and Andrew Manley (Leilehua, Hawaii).
I am also hearing UCLA will keep a watchful eye on linebackers -- Eric Kendricks (Hoover High) Ofa Fifita (Arroyo Valley) and Will Smith (Notre Dame) and receiver Austin Hill of Roosevelt.
Also at the camp was defensive back/running back Austin Collinsworth, the son of former NFLer and current NFL analyst Chris Collinsworth.
And the buzz around the camp was Oaks Christian defensive tackle Cassius Marsh is expected to show up for Tuesday's morning workout.

If he were a QB that might be an excuse, but receivers can play fine with tired arms.

Austin Collingsworth per Scout has offers from Cincy, Kentucky, Stanford, L'ville and Vandy. He has some ability as a DB and something you just can't teach to some kids - to play hard on every play.

Going from the Oregon camp to the UCLA camp is like going from Aruba to Huntington Beach. Their training facility is hands down the best in the nation, and ours is horrible. NICE ONE GUERRERO! WAY TO TAKE CARE OF OUR ATHLETES!!!! AND THANKS A LOT FOR THAT ARTIFICIAL TURF ON SPAULDING FIELD!

About Inside UCLA

This is Brian Dohn's sixth season covering UCLA after spending 4 1/2 years covering the Dodgers for the Daily News and other Los Angeles Newspaper Group papers. He graduated from Rutgers, where the first college football game was played in 1869. Sure, the Scarlet Knights suffered for a long time, but now RU is doing what Jerseyans always thought was possible. Winning at Rutgers also proves winning is possible everywhere else in the nation, so underachieving coaches better be careful. Now, if only men's hoops can turn it around.
