How to defend Maynor?
That's the question UCLA faces in preparation for the game against Virginia Commonwealth. I asked Drexel coach James Flint, whose team lost to VCU 75-46, how he tried to defend Eric Maynor, who had just eight points on 3 of 9 shooting against the VCU.
``We doubled him a little bit, but we strung him out a little bit,'' Flint said. ``We tried to go that way. It didn't always work. They hit eight 3s against us. It was a close game in the first half (35-28). One reason is if you leave a guy open, (Maynor) is going to find them. A lot depends on the other athletes. Those other guys have to do their job.''

Maynor is a gunner and a good passer; cut off one or the other and VCU is done.
I'm pretty sure Jrue Holiday is a better defender than anyone Drexel has.
Jrue has the ability to be a great on ball defender, but the question is if he can get up for this game. And if he can get up for this game, the question will be whether he can sustain his defensive intensity for 30+ minutes.
Theres no denying his talent, but in his freshman year Jrue has been inconsistent to a fault.
IMO, if Jrue isn't up to the defensive assignment, CBH should give Malcom a chance.
Holiday is the real key to this game, not only on the defensive matchup, but as a scorer. When he scores 8+, the Bruins are 21-2. Less than 8, 4-6 including five losses when Holiday scored 3 points or less.
Find a way to get Marcus Simmons on the team, he shut down Collison.
very interesting stats Don. It's pretty amazing that when Holiday scores just 8+ pts, his team has almost always won. That's just 8 pts... wow. I wonder if you could tell the same story with any other play in the NCAA.
Isn't Collison going to guard Maynard?
Yeah.. collison will guard Maynard
Sorry I spoke too quickly. Just re-looked at VCU's starting 5 and Collison will probably guard 5-10 Rodriguez
Kind of Ironic
Maynor and Holiday played on the same team in highschool.
