Visiting Hasiak
UCLA coach Rick Neuheisel's whirlwind recruiting this week took him from the Georgia home of JUCO defensive tackle Branden Warner to Canada, where he had an in-home visit with family members of offensive line commit Stan Hasiak, who is from Kapolei (Hawaii).
I'm am told that both in-home visits went very well.

About Inside UCLA
This is Brian Dohn's sixth season covering UCLA after spending 4 1/2 years covering the Dodgers for the Daily News and other Los Angeles Newspaper Group papers. He graduated from Rutgers, where the first college football game was played in 1869. Sure, the Scarlet Knights suffered for a long time, but now RU is doing what Jerseyans always thought was possible. Winning at Rutgers also proves winning is possible everywhere else in the nation, so underachieving coaches better be careful. Now, if only men's hoops can turn it around.About this Entry

Canada?
yes that is north of the united states. its also pretty cold there too
Gotta love Rick!
What is Stan doing in Canada? That was totally random.
Good to see Coach Rick Neuheisal put some miles on that helicopter. I am surmising that it must be one of those new fancy-dancy jet turbine helicopters, like Blue Thunder, to be able to criss-cross this great country of ours. A refreshing change from Coach Karl Dorrell who preferred to recruit via the Internets and living rooms of California and Texas only.
One last brief point, be it also known to all here, and I have already advised the court via facsimile filing, that I may be leaving the law office early today to rush home in time for the other "official" championship game. I hesitate to use the word "official" because I firmly believe that the Championship should be awarded upon the basis of UPI votes. In closing, I hope for a good game tonight. Cheers.
LAWYER JOHN
I wouldn't be surprised if sled dogs or monster trucks were utilized in any of the two visits.
Rick is tireless ... we're in good hands. Thanks for the update Brian.
I agree Lawyer John, i think Utah has a solid defense for the championship
TALK ABOUT A PASSION BUCKET!!
Hey Non-Lawyer John. You do know that it's illegal in this state to hold yourself out as a lawyer without having actually passed the Bar, don't you?
What state? Montana? Maine? Idaho? To quote what some famous person once said...PFFFFFF
LET'S GET READY TO RUMBLE !
WAY TO GO, COACH !
Go get'm coach RN
Sir or Madam Anonymous 3:04 p.m., thank you for your pointed comment. Your point is well taken, although a bit incorrect. Let me just say in a few short words that whilst it is against the law to practice law without a license in this state, it is not against to hold yourself out as a lawyer without having actually pass the Bar.
Let me explain the distinction to non-members of the esteembed California Bar who may not have knowledge of the law. A person who earns his diploma from an accredited law school but does not pass the Bar Exam is still a lawyer, and can rightfully claim so, but is prohibited from practicing law in CA until he gains admission into the Bar.
I hope and trust that you were able to understand the legal distinction that I have delineated above. Many of my clients and also people on the Internents have applauded my skill in translating what lay persons have termed "legalese" into plain English. I hate to toot my own horn, but sometimes you must toot because no one else will, but I am very skilled at such translations as well SPECTATOR SPORTS such as what we all do here. All the world is a stage and we are merely SPECTATORS. Begrudingly, I must end my post without addressing your other points, but I must get back to my busy law practice.

AND even if you have passed the Bar, it's illegal if you aren't currently "active" with the Bar (i.e., in good standing).
California Business & Professions Code section 6126:
(a) Any person advertising or holding himself or herself out as practicing or entitled to practice law or otherwise practicing law who is not an active member of the State Bar, or otherwise authorized pursuant to statute or court rule to practice law in this state at the time of doing so, is guilty of a misdemeanor punishable by up to one year in a county jail or by a fine of up to one thousand dollars ($1,000), or by both that fine and imprisonment. Upon a second or subsequent conviction, the person shall be confined in a county jail for not less than 90 days, except in an unusual case where the interests of justice would be served by imposition of a lesser sentence or a fine. If the court imposes only a fine or a sentence of less than 90 days for a second or subsequent conviction under this subdivision, the court shall state the reasons for its sentencing choice on the record.
(b) Any person who has been involuntarily enrolled as an inactive member of the State Bar, or has been suspended from membership from the State Bar, or has been disbarred, or has resigned from the State Bar with charges pending, and thereafter practices or attempts to practice law, advertises or holds himself or herself out as practicing or otherwise entitled to practice law, is guilty of a crime punishable by imprisonment in the state prison or a county jail. However, any person who has been involuntarily enrolled as an inactive member of the State Bar pursuant to paragraph (1) of subdivision (e) of Section 6007 and who knowingly thereafter practices or attempts to practice law, or advertises or holds himself or herself out as practicing or otherwise entitled to practice law, is guilty of a crime punishable by imprisonment in the state prison or a county jail.
Helicopters are not good options for a trip of that length.
Just keep Hasiak away from Sean Sheller. Don't want his career to be ruined by a summer ATV accident...
And now let's ask Non-Lawyer John a question that he won't answer ... what's your Bar number?
Lawyer John is a trOJie, but he's earned my respect. Post away LJ!
Sir or Madam Anonymous 3:54 p.m., simply by using the "copy and paste" function on your computers does not make you a lawyer. Agreed. Your posting of statutory code is meaningless unless you can interpret the "legalese", something of which I am very skilled at. In fact, the tactict you employ to quote statutory law in an sublime attempt at intimidation has been used many times before by lawyers who are unskilled at legal argument. I do apologise, but it will not work with LAWYER JOHN. Cheers.
Sir or Madam Anonymous 4:20 p.m., thank you for your pointed comment. Your point is well taken. I will post my Bar Number immediately henceforth after you post your true name and address here.
Sir Bailey, thank you for your pointed comment. Your point is well taken. The respect is mutual. Cheers.
LAWYER JOHN
Business is not to good in Canada this time of year.
LJ:
Without being an apologist for Anon, the above text of the B& P Code does not need legal interpretation. It is capable of understanding by most laymen. In fact, I think if you read it a few times, you could understand most of it. There is no 'legalese' in that statute.
If you were truly a good lawyer, you would not have left your best argument on the table. Instead, you made mundane points that would have you blown out of the water by most 2 year associates.
Ciao, SCumchugger!
I have been festering and am getting overfilled with puss and about to pop out
Typical young lawyer type discussion: the insecurity is excruciating.
I'll interpret the "legalese" for you:
If you say you're a lawyer and make comments like "I may be leaving the law office early today" and "I must get back to my busy law practice," you're holding yourself out as entitled to practice law. If you're holding yourself out as entitled to practice law and you're not really a lawyer, you're entitled to a one way ticket to join your classmate Orenthal.
I think you guys are giving the lonely non-Lawyer John what he craves: Attention. Why don't you just ignore him?
I LOVE Lawyer John.
His mindless pontificating makes me realize what a priceless education I received at UCLA. He's so devoid of any worthwhile information or opinion that I actually feel something of a minor pundit when commenting on the vagaries of college football on this blog. Now...thank the Good Lord OK and Florida lived up to their over-hyped NCAA BCS bul-sh-t. To think that either team was rated higher than Utah is an absolute insult to all fans of NCAA football. When is integrity ever going to return to anything involving this hallowed sport??? Are George Bush and his insidious cohorts running EVERYTHING in this country??!! Can we actually believe what is being spoon-fed to us in the good ol' USA? Why isn't Utah proclaimed as the BEST college football team in the country? Does MONEY control EVERYTHING?? Well, guess what...money is a empty chalice. Maybe, in the long distant future, Truth, Justice, and the American Way will finally win out. Until then, we'll all have to put up with the cr-p that the Powers That Be force down our throats...only 8 football programs deserve to be considered national champions. The others...to the gas chambers! You are not worthy!!! I am sick of this!!!!
I'd like to offer a word in defense of LAWYER JOHN:
What is worse -- a man holding himself out as a lawyer, or a lawyer who thinks he offers a service to mankind?
So BRIAN, what else would UCLA coaches tell you about the in-home visits - that they DID NOT go well?
"Coach, how did breakfast go?"
Coach: "It went well!"
Also Brian, you need to do more policing on this board - the language and pettiness and snippy comments are getting outrageous. Why not ban some of these abusers?
Lawyer John is a very accurate spoof of only the truth if memory serves. you can see his use of the terms 'internets' (plural), and 'begrudginly', which were something found in long-forgotten posts by the trojie only the truth. his parodies are actually very laughable, and he is welcome here, although he has fooled many a reader. possibly not so welcome is only the truth, who admittedly was kicked off the blog for being combative.
I think the LAWYER JOHN spoof is hilarious and that he/she is a Bruin.
You got it Anon(s) - anyone still seriously responding to LJ....the joke's on you.
Sir or Madam Anonymous 8:31 a.m., thank you for your pointed comment. Your point is well taken.
Begrudingly, I am once again forced to take time away from my busy law practice to post a few short word here. There is simply no need to defend the indefensible. The Florida Aligators were simply the better team last night. It was a battle royale of Heisman Trophy winners and team speed. Tom Tebow proved beyond a reasonable doubt that he is worth all the millions that will be bestowed on him by NFL scouts and NFL coaches in the near future. It is also very admirable to some people, especially in the South, that Tom Tebow is a good soldier for Christ. He really knows his Bible and I am sure that knowledge helps him on the field to stay calm.
As a sidebar, I love the quote "money is an empty chalice". I will have to find a way to incorporate that quote into one of my legal briefs, maybe a summary judgment motion. I am sure that the Judge's law clerk will be inspired and persuaded to rule for my client upon reading that quote along with my skillful legal arguments. Cheers.
LAWYER JOHN
Phil Hartman is lucky he died. Otherwise, he'd surely be locked up now for holding himself out as a member of the Bar while portraying the Unfrozen Caveman Lawyer on SNL.
Bizarro Lawyer John >>>>>>>> TRUTH/LJ
Sweet Phil Hartman comment - Unfrozen Caveman Lawyer was epic!
The Lawyer John impersonations were humorous at first, but can we move on?
