More Hasiak

| | Comments (39) |

In talking to a few of my sources, the news of Kapolei (Hawaii) offensive lineman Stan Hasiak changing his commitment from UCLA to Cal has come as a surprise.
Less than a week ago Bruins coach Rick Neuheisel and offensive line coach Bob Palcic visited with Hasiak and members of his family in Canada, and I heard the feeling was they sealed the deal with him.
I'm not sure if UCLA is going to go back and try to recruit him or not, or if they are going to wash their hands of him after this decision.

So what was the 'Ace in the hole' then, is that over as well?

Dump him. We're UCLA... he's a high school kid.

Over the summer he sounded like a Cal lean. Why do you think he verballed to UCLA in the fall?

Less than a week ago they pulled out all the stops, why give up now?

Come on Brian, what was the ace in the hole? You owe us that much. You said it here so cough it up!

Cal has 8 Offensive linemen in the NFL to UCLA's 0.
I blame Dullard for this.

I saw Hasiak the day he took his official. He was wearing a stupid shirt. I haven't wanted him here since then.

losing another lineman to Cal? what is the problem?

pr... after your post, nothing else needs to be said! you are spot on!! no brainer decision for the kids future in FOOTBALL

Well, I guess Coach Rick Neuheisel now knows how Coach Pete Carroll felt when CRN stole Morrell Presley from the Football Programme across town.

In my opinion, Bruins fans should not be such blowhards as they are. After all, these are just 17 year old kids who change their minds often. Boys will be Boys. You win some and you lose some.

Best of luck to Stanley Hastiak on his choice. Probably decided to go to Kal for the academics and the soon to be new atheletic facilities.

Kick him loose. It hurts us, but leaking it out before calling UCLA and then that BS in Canada where Tedford showed up the day before.

Hawaii sucks and so do the Hasiak's.

maybe the new weasel can steal another recruit from across town? We shoulda kept DW for head coach and we wouldnt have these recruiting issues already

Life goes on...he'll regret his decision some day.
Interesting that he talks about feeling a better Polynesian connection with Cal coaches. I think we need some Poly assistant coaches to help recruiting these kids.

Last time I checked, Norm Chow is Polynesian.

Such is life in recruting. You win some that make no sense and lose some that make total sense.

One thing is for sure, you know CRN and his staff will leave no stone unturned and won't back down from anyone!

Go Bruins!

We offered TOma and Dullard just to get this Hassick guy and a shot at Teo. Dumb decision. Rick is up to his old tricks of recruiting 10 WR's, 10DB's and no OL.

Rick is a joke.

lol, the CRN bashing has commenced. you guys are ridiculous.

The difference between Pressley and Hasiak is this:

Pressley realized he would have been behind both McCoy and Ayles at tight end. He can play right away at UCLA.

Hasiak could have played right away at UCLA but still chose to go to Cal in a move that will better prepare him for the NFL.

I figured something bad happened over here when VB came over to Scott Wolf's blog calling all Trojan fans "gay."

I wouldn't sweat losing this kid too much, he's overrated and Neu looks to bring in a great recruiting class without him

Jbruin said:

Anonymous (3:41): what did his shirt say?

"Pressley realized he would have been behind both McCoy and Ayles at tight end."

Yeah right. Maybe he wanted to go play somewhere where the tight end gets more than 6 catches for 41 yards a year.

Catches for a tight end? That would not be UCLA! Rick's problem is that eh has no quality depth at OL or DL.

Scott said:

I think this is pathetic. Not the recruit, nor the recruiters, but you guys that live and die by recruits that pop in and out.

Let's get something straight: Dohn's been pretty darn accurate in all of his information since he's joined the Daily coverage of UCLA. His "ace in the hole" is likely still to come--maybe try being somewhat patient?

As far as the direction of the program: winning starts with a mindset, not a recruit. Neuheisal's got that mindset. The kids playing for him have that mindset. You see it day-in, day-out--Kids are working harder and actually are competing. Every position is wide open and that in itself calls for a better program.

Now you can expect the skeptics and the trolls, but c'mon, we're Bruins, we're leaps and bounds ahead of where we were a couple years back, and with the right mantra and a little blood and sweat, we'll be fine.

About Inside UCLA

This is Brian Dohn's sixth season covering UCLA after spending 4 1/2 years covering the Dodgers for the Daily News and other Los Angeles Newspaper Group papers. He graduated from Rutgers, where the first college football game was played in 1869. Sure, the Scarlet Knights suffered for a long time, but now RU is doing what Jerseyans always thought was possible. Winning at Rutgers also proves winning is possible everywhere else in the nation, so underachieving coaches better be careful. Now, if only men's hoops can turn it around.
