Walker's competition?

| | Comments (8) |

There's been a third mystery candidate for the San Diego State opening, and I'm hearing it's Ball State's Brady Hoke, who's expected to interview this week. Hoke has reportedly met with Auburn officials about its opening as well. A source said DeWayne Walker had his second interview today.
I'm also hearing that former Minnesota coach Glen Mason could be in the mix as well.
Indications are that the Aztecs are looking to move quickly on the coaching search and could hire a coach as early as this weekend.

there seems to be a disconnect is a head coach is currently coaching at Ball State and interviewing for vacant positions at Auburn and San Diego State. those two universities are not exactly in the same league.

Take Walker...

Ball State was 12-1 this year and went to a bowl game last year... how could moving to San Diego St be even considered? I am guessing Hoke is trying for the Auburn position and plans on using the SD St job to leverage a better contract with Ball St.

I'll tell you how.....would you rather try to lure all the great mid-west athletes to Muncie, Indiana and hope that you can replicate the best the University has EVER done and likely ever will do or....

...capitalize on a season you likely won't be able to repeat by leveraging a job where you can clean up on the abundance of SoCal athletes with San Diego as a lure to a job where there is only upside?

hmmmmmm.....I think I can see why Brady would be interested.....

Anon 8:39... spoken like someone who has never lived in the Midwest. The Midwest does not lack football talent and SoCal does not seem particularily adept at getting Midwest talent to come here. Believe it or not... not everyone in the world wants to live in SoCal. The entire town where I grew up thinks I'm crazy for moving here.

.... So then its a choice of staying at a developed program with a proven track record of success vs. going to a school that is considering dropping football altogether. Either stay at a school where you likely have a job for life (if you want it) or go to a quagmire.... I doubt Brady is actualy interested.

Even if Hoke was interested, I still see Walker as being their top choice.
