Walker and SDSU

| | Comments (64) |

As I head into a week of vacation, I will leave you with this:
UCLA defensive coordinator DeWayne Walker did interview for the vacant head coaching position at San Diego State on Sunday (which I reported in Sunday's paper).
As an interesting twist, Walker's former boss, USC coach Pete Carroll, called the search firm handling the process to recommend Walker for the job.
Jill Painter will take you through the week.

Pete Carroll, another class move by this first class individual. Has any ohter head coach in America done more to promote his assistants and former assistants?

Gotta Love Pete Carroll

So is Pete Carroll just a wonderful guy or is he looking out for his (& his Trojans) best interests (i.e., not having to face Walker's defenses in the coming years)?

LAWYER JOHN said:

VB, agreed. That is a very classy move by Coach Pete Carroll. You don't hear Karl Dorrell doing the same thing, do you?

As an aside, I am sure that the SDSU AD will put GREAT WEIGHT on the recommendation by Coach Pete Carroll. In legal terms, certain evidence is accorded heavier weight than others in a court of law. Here, Coach Pete Carroll's recommendation is a heavy as lead anvil.

Pete Carroll = Class, Integrity, Honesty & Toughness

Best wishes to Coach DeWayne Walker as he rides off into the San Diego State Sunset.

I'm sure he doesn't want to face a Walker defense with increased talent. SUC has issues playing the our defense with the talent level we have had the last three years.

pfffffff. Pete Carroll.. What a bafoon.

DOHN!!!!!!!!! WHY ARE YOU LEAVING? YOU CAN'T TAKE A VACATION!!!!!!

Bring on Jill!

Pete Carroll has put in calls supporting just about every assistant he's had that moved on to the League or elsewhere in college football.

Of course getting Kiffin the Oakland Raiders job and moving Sarkisian to Washington may have been in USC's best interest.

LAWYER JOHN: Spoken like a true Trojan! Class, integrity, and honesty? Really?! Class and integrity really pop up when you recruit thugs and allow blatant intimidation tactics to run through your program!

Bailey Author Profile Page said:

A couple things:

-I do want Walker to get a HC gig because he deserves one. I just don't think SDSU is the best he can get. Sticking around UCLA for another 2-3 years while the offense picks up will get him more attention than coaching at a dead end SDSU. SDSU is not going to launch him to a better HD gig.

-Sarkisian wasn't exactly an offensive mastermind at usc, sure Petey has no problem losing him to UW.

-Carroll would be considered a reference because Walker worked for him before, so this isn't like Carroll is calling out of the blue recommeding Walker.

come on vb, remediation/and or spelling help should never be necessary for bruin grads, or uc grads in general. you're making us all look bad. the word is buffoon.

Jay said:

Not a big deal. Pete knows that Dwalk is a great coach just like everyone else does. Pete worked with him for awhile and knows he deserves to be a head coach. Pete DID NOT do this so he does not have to face him. Next year SC will have a new O coordinator, and we will have a new D coordinator. I dislike PC but not everything he does is bad. Now his players are a different story...

Good luck Dwalk, you deserve a better job but I will root for you to turn that program around, just like you did our defense.

Anonymous said:

You guys maybe right, but if Carroll thought Walker was so great why did he fire Walker after one year @ USC? Just say, Carroll always does something for a reason.

Bailey Author Profile Page said:

WALKER SHOULD HAVE GOTTEN THE UW JOB. That was HIS job. I like UW and Seattle is awesome, but I hope Sarkisian bombs up there and they can him in two years and then hire D Walker after the Bruins catch some wind offensively to match the defense.

Anonymous said:

Let's not also forget that UCLA plays SDSU next season. Should be interesting to see Walker go up against his own defense.

eric-ucla said:

Gross. Stop with the "class" nonsense.
Pete did it for selfish reasons. He doesn't like having to face Walker. Walker is the biggest threat to usc. Pete wants him gone, and out of the pac-10. That is his motive.

Anonymous said:

ucibruin,

don't worry, VB is NOT a UCLA grad. Your instincts and reasoning are totally correct.

Anonymous said:

It hurt Pete Carroll when he lost Ed Orgeron after putting in a good word for him at Ole Miss.

But, I do agree with Bailey in that Walker should have gotten the UW job.

God forbid I ever work for the Daily Bruin. You will all be screwed. My blog will be called "pfffffff."

And yes, I did predict after the Tennessee game that our team would still SUCK. And everyone crucified me. All the homers on here were thinking we were Rose Bowl bound because we crept by Tennessee. I saw right through that delusion. Even though that game was pretty fun.

BruinFBBB Author Profile Page said:

Nobody denied that the team would struggle. Many people did take a more mature approach to the topic though.

What's next...you're going to predict that tomorrow is Tuesday?

Congratulations. That relentlessly positive thing went right over your head...

KingOfLA Author Profile Page said:

Considering the smart money is on UCLA hiring Norton (one of SC's best recruiters) if Walker leaves, I doubt Carroll would recommend him out of his own best interest. Also Walker wasn't fired at SC, he took an NFL job.

VB Author Profile Page said:

LOL LOL LOL... "NOBODY denied that the team would struggle."

Are you kidding me? You must be new to the blog? People thought we were Pac10 champs after the Tennessee game. People were yelling at Dohn for saying that our O'line was horrible. People asked don't to recant his statements! Bruins were in front of the Rose Bowl after the game yelling at Petros Papadacus for saying we suck. I'm sorry, Mack, but the Bruins were complete homers after the Tennessee game. VB was one of the few who saw THROUGH the win.

Oh yeah, and Tennessee sure had a great year too. pffffff...

Bailey Author Profile Page said:

VB isn't even a UCLA ALUMNI? pffffff...

BruinFBBB Author Profile Page said:

People criticized you because you approached the topic from the point of view of an 8th grader.

Some of your points may have been valid but you articulated them like Beavis. Some of us seem to have a little tact. Some of us seem to realize that Rome wasn't built in day and it takes time turn around a program.

We forgive your myopic point of view and inability to see the big picture, let alone remain relentless positive.

Hey, VB does not tailgate with me. That's an insult (to him and his group). I tailgate with VB and the group, and man, they are good at it.
I wouldn't mind them packing up the family truckster and joining the Dohn family for the Rutgers bowl game later this month.

BruinFBBB Author Profile Page said:

Dohn got pretty upset the last time someone impersonated him...

VB Author Profile Page said:

Thanks, Brian. You are welcome anytime. We are still trying to decide the menu for the home opener next season. You'll be the first to know!

And that invitation extends to EVERYONE on here. But none of you jerks ever come by the tailgate! If you wanna talk to VB, and see that i am not as big of a jerk as I come across, please stop by next season.

Have a good vacation, Dohn! I'll take care of Jill for you!

pxcasey said:

This is the same Carroll who advised Walker NOT to take the UCLA job. I'm sure Carroll is doing everything he can not to have to face Walker's D again.

VB Author Profile Page said:

LOL. "Impersonated him."

Whatever you say, Pink Panther.

Poor BruinFBBB, you must feel like a big idiot. VB merely pointed out to all of you homers that we wouldn't be that good this year. It doesn't mean he sat around at the Rose Bowl and rooted for the Bruins to lose. He just simply stated that despite the amazing win against Tennessee we still weren't going to be that good. I know you are upset that VB was right and you were wrong, but hey sometimes it's okay to not be able to know everything.

BruinFBBB Author Profile Page said:

I'll say it again:

I don't have a problem with the point VB is trying to make at all. I just wish he'd use a little tact.

But hey, the blog is what you make of it. Keep up the 8th-grade shenanigans. Knock yourself out...

VB Author Profile Page said:

Thanks Anon. Whoever you are. Welcome to the UBTA!

Look, I love the Bruins. Not in a gross way. But I bleed blue and gold. I want to see us succeed more than anything. But I am also not afraid to leave the homer syndrome once in a while and look at our teams objectively. Try it, BruinFBBB. You'll find that you will enjoy the sports a lot more.

VB Author Profile Page said:

Saying, "WE SUCK," is 8th grade shenanigans?

Brian and his family probably haven't even gotten on plane for their vacation and the blog is getting out of control. We the cats away the mice will play.

I'm with you on this on BruinFBBB. We can all cheer on the Bruins but we can do with tact and not just make posts to try and get a rise out of people.

BTW, I really hope Walker doesn't head to SDSU. Hopefully something will be announced shortly!

But yes, I am married. Almost 2 years now.

Thanks for the invite VB. And BruinFBBB, once again. How is saying we aren't going to be successful this year 8th grader like? I'm confused. It would be one thing if VB was running around here typing expletives left and right, but he isn't. He is simply making a point and having an opinion. He isn't attacking anyone and certainly isn't being rude to anyone on this blog. After all this is a blog, on the internet. If you don't like it stop visiting it. Oh and are you sure you know what tact is?

Anonymous said:

You know what BruinFBBB...what was I thinking? Supporting VB's rants and pulling a "its the free internet, if you dont like it then go elsewhere" really is stupid of me too. If I had any sort of guts then I wouldn't be Anonymous, but until then I'll continue to be a coward and type like this.
