DW, there will be better jobs than SDSU. Don't let that dump tarnish your good name. Just look how they have treated other HC's. That will tell you a lot.

Agreed...don't do it Walker!

More importantly Coach Walker, if you read this board. Don't let all the people who questioned your ability to run a team in one of the posts yesterday bother you.

Go Coach!

DeWayne Walker is a good candidate for the job at SDSU. San Diego has some tremendous football talent and DeWayne should be able to grab some of that talent and utilize it productively.

Thanks for everything DeWayne. Especially the tickets for the Kansas State game a few years ago. Of course we lost that one 10-6, but it was a good game.

I was surprised to hear Wooden come up with excuses for the football team. It doesn't seem like his way.

It is time that the bruins move on, Walker clearly does not want to continue being a D-Coordinator. We have to let him go and get Ken Norton Jr. back to UCLA and lead our defense

Okay, why is the WORLD do you want Ken Norton Jr. to coach our defense? Because he went to UCLA? The dude is the LINEBACKER coach at USC, and nothing more. It's like hiring Karl Dorrell, a WIDE-RECEIVER'S COACH, to be our head coach. It just doesn't make any sense. Why is everyone drinking the Ken Norton Koolade? Our defense would be HORRIBLE.

pffff... "Let Walker go!!!!!!! We need Ken Norton Jr.!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Please stop calling people names when they have a different opinion than you. Its pretty childish.

The flaw in your argument is that it is a natural progression to go from a linebackers coach to a coordinator position.

KD, on the other hand, took a two step jump when he took the UCLA position. So try to keep up.

You might argue you'd rather see an experienced DC get the position (that isn't even open at this point) but Norton is not a far-fetched candidate (though there may be better ones out there).

Norton also has the recruiting angle going for him. But in the end, we'll all have to trust Slick Rick's judgment b/c ultimately its his call and the program will be made or broke on him/not the DC.

Quick note as to KD: He did log time as an offensive coordinator for a couple of schools so he did have coordinator experience prior to taking on the UCLA HC position. What one thinks of his offensive philosophy and his readiness to assume the UCLA HC job is a different matter altogether.

As for Norton, I don't think he's logged enough time to become a DC IMO. Remember, he started as a graduate assistant for Petey in 2004 so he hasn't been around the block that long. I'd look in-house at current UCLA LB coach Chuck Bullough as a glance at his resume shows he seems ready to take on DC chores.

The SDSU job is not as bad as some make it out to be. It's not glamorous, but you still have alums here who put together a buyout of Chuck Long's contract and one still has access to plenty of quality second tier SoCal talent to compete in the Mountain West Conference. The on-campus facilities are solid even though the stadium is way too big for SDSU. If he gets them to a lower tier bowl, DW can certainly look to bigger and better jobs down the road.

If Obama is ready to be President then I think Norton can be a DC...

In all honesty I don't like these blanket generalizations. What a particular person brings to the table overall is what matters and that person's experience is only one element to look at.

And according to Wikipedia, KD was an OC for two seasons at Northern Arizona back in the early 90s...

I'd like to see KN to expand his experience a bit beyond LB coach under Petey. I also think Chuck Bullough's experience in coaching every defensive position with the Chicago Bears over 5 years as well as working under DW for the past 3 years can't be ignored when considering a potential replacement for DW.

You neglected to mention KD was also an OC with Colorado and UW under RN...according to that same Wikipedia reference.

Who says Obama is ready to be president? I don't think anyone is ever ready to be president. But the question is about Norton, I don't know if Rick can take a chance on an unproven DC when he knows that he is still going to have a problem on offense next year.

66 million Americans that voted for him and the silent majority say so silly...

But yeah, failed to mention KD's time @ Colorado...sorry about that...

Offense is headed in the right direction with Chow; just need time to get the personnel in order...separate issue from the D

Ken Norton Jr. has helped develop Lofa Tatupu, Keith Rivers, Rey Maualuga and Brian Cushing. I know some of you don't want to give any of those guys praise but they are/were solid college players.

Many here don't want to admit it but Pete Carroll's got a great mind for defense and Norton has been learning from him since 2004.
So if Norton forgives the UCLA program and returns, I'd suggest welcoming him with open arms as he's learned from the best.

UCLA can become a top-notch program with the help of Pete Carroll.

Don't get me started on Osama.

As for Norton, I'm not sure why everyone now WANTS to get rid of DeWayne SO THAT we can get Norton. That is my problem.

BruinFBBB, you need to get lost. You annoy me.

The simple reality is that whoever replaces Walker will be a downgrade.

The ship is beginning to founder and CRN does not have the resume/stature/standing to turn this thing around.

The good news is that the vast majority of UCLA Students and Alums don't care about Football. Really sucks for those who do care. I suggest you quit swimming against the tide and devote your efforts and allegiance to the Basketball and Womens Softball programs.

About Inside UCLA

This is Brian Dohn's sixth season covering UCLA after spending 4 1/2 years covering the Dodgers for the Daily News and other Los Angeles Newspaper Group papers. He graduated from Rutgers, where the first college football game was played in 1869. Sure, the Scarlet Knights suffered for a long time, but now RU is doing what Jerseyans always thought was possible. Winning at Rutgers also proves winning is possible everywhere else in the nation, so underachieving coaches better be careful. Now, if only men's hoops can turn it around.
