Stats and stuff

Here is my game story and notebook from today's paper. The notebook includes some of the JUCO offensive linemen the Bruins are recruiting.
Also, a few stats from the late finish:
UCLA held the ball for 37 minutes, 46 seconds, but still gave up 323 rushing yards.
The Bruins had 18 first downs, but only one came via the run. They rushed 37 times for 63 yards.
Oregon's Jeremiah Masoli ran for 170 yards, the second-highest by a Ducks QB, and tailback LeGarrette Blount had 111 rushing yards.
UCLA QB Kevin Craft was sacked six times, and hit for other times.

Thanks for the stats, Brian.

Also, any word on that bonehead that fell out of the stands last night? I assume it was a fight between two oregon fans?

Michael Norris is an idiot. James Washington said they practiced that onsides kick during Thursday's practice and Norris was off sides then.... and guess who was off sides Saturday night? Yep, Michael Norris. The same guy who gets burned over and over in the secondary. His eligibility isn't over soon enough.

Just read all the comments, and there was not one positive statement about the game. No wonder players say they play for their teammates and not for the fans.

A shifty running quarterback is tough for most teams to handle.

ucla did well to hang in the game-- most of the second half the bruins were only a score away from tying it.

Oregon is a tough place to play, most teams lose to the Ducks at Autzen. bruins should carry away from this game some encouragement that its team is improving.

Except the fans, donors and just season ticket holders, pay for their scholarships and other stuff. So, maybe they should start playing for the fans.

Besides, they shouldn't be reading these blogs anyway. Clearly, they should be reading their play books and watching game tape. Oh, and their school books, too, since they are "student" athletes.

About Inside UCLA

This is Brian Dohn's sixth season covering UCLA after spending 4 1/2 years covering the Dodgers for the Daily News and other Los Angeles Newspaper Group papers. He graduated from Rutgers, where the first college football game was played in 1869. Sure, the Scarlet Knights suffered for a long time, but now RU is doing what Jerseyans always thought was possible. Winning at Rutgers also proves winning is possible everywhere else in the nation, so underachieving coaches better be careful. Now, if only men's hoops can turn it around.
