"Lucky" Bruins

Not my word, but the word UCLA coach Rick Neuheisel used to describe his team's 27-24 overtime victory against Tennessee.
"Our kids know that we were lucky last night, but luck is part of it and you make your own luck," Neuheisel said.
Neuheisel spoke about the offensive line's play this morning, and he touched on quarterback Kevin Craft getting sacked once while passing 43 times. However, the running game mustered 29 yards on 31 attempts, and the longest run was seven yards.
"I thought they were terrific in the pass protection department,'' Neuheisel said. "We need to run the ball better. I think we had 31 yards rushing. We can't survive doing that to our quarterback."
And Neuheisel also spoke about UCLA's penchant in previous seasons to follow up a big win with a clunker of a performance.
"We're going to address that,'' he said. "That can't be who we are."

I don't believe in luck, people often mistake luck for opportunity, when opportunity knocks take it, you make your own luck. Opportunity knocked for Tenn, but they did not take advantage of their 4 opportunities.

About Inside UCLA

This is Brian Dohn's sixth season covering UCLA after spending 4 1/2 years covering the Dodgers for the Daily News and other Los Angeles Newspaper Group papers. He graduated from Rutgers, where the first college football game was played in 1869. Sure, the Scarlet Knights suffered for a long time, but now RU is doing what Jerseyans always thought was possible. Winning at Rutgers also proves winning is possible everywhere else in the nation, so underachieving coaches better be careful. Now, if only men's hoops can turn it around.
