Neuheisel on Craft, and more

| | Comments (2) |

QB Kevin Craft continued to take exclusive reps with UCLA's first team offense in Thursday's morning practice, and coach Rick Neuheisel acknowledged Craft leads Chris Forcier in the quarterback competition.
Neuheisel said the primary reason is Craft has a better understanding of the offense, and Foricer isn't approaching the learned aspect of the offense with as much urgency as the Bruins would like.
Still, the play at quarterback wasn't great this morning. Craft began an 11-on-11 drill by having two passes batted down and then was sacked on the third down play. And Neuheisel continues to stress the importance of having a fast tempo in practice, and imploring the offense to fight through fatigue.
In other news, freshman running back Derrick Coleman will undergo arthroscopic knee surgery Friday to repair torn meniscus, which could sent him on his way to a red-shirt season. He is expected to miss two to three weeks.
Receiver Taylor Embree has a bruised shoulder, but shouldn't miss extended time. Also, running back Kahlil Bell sat out the morning practice, but told me his ailing hip flexor isn't a problem and he will practice tonight.
