Answers, Part VI
Here is the sixth set of answers:
any update on westbrook? im assuming he is staying in the draft. what teams is he working out for? as Kings fan im really hoping that he is still available with the 12th pick. id love to have him in our backcourt.
I'm sure you saw the story I wrote that he is hiring an agent and staying in the drat. As for teams, I'm hearing now that he will not get below No. 12, but it is likely he will go from sixth to 10 th. He said he worked out for the Knicks and also had one scheduled with Seattle.
Do NBA teams only work out prospective players that they're seriously interested in or do they cast a wide net and invite everyone and their mother to work out for them? What have you heard about Westbrook and which teams are interested in him?
They cast a wide net because the workouts are usually done in groups of four, which means even if a team is targeting Kevin Love, other guys are needed to complete the workout. That is why Lorenzo Mata-Real has more than a half-dozen workouts scheduled. As for Westbrook, check the above answer.
Why do you think Josh Shipp is waiting so long to make an official announcement?
Because he wants to go through the process and maybe work out for a team or two to get the experience, but he is going to announce either June 15 or June 16 he is coming back.
With all the workouts that Luc is attending, how likely do you think it is that he'll return?
I'll put it at 50-50 he comes back. He doesn't want to come back, but he's smart enough to know it is probably the right thing to do.
Isn't it not fair for UCLA (and other schools that end late) in terms of APR that we end school mid-June, making it nearly impossible for anyone to stay in school while working out for the NBA? Could Love or Westbrook really have done anything about it?
Indeed, it is unfair to UCLA, and every school on the quarter system. The only thing they could have done was withdraw from classes after the second week or so, because they had to be enrolled while the Bruins were in the Final Four.
How are players selected to attend the pre-draft camp in Orlando? I don't recall Afflalo being invited last year and he ended up being a first round pick.
They are selected based on merit, and who the NBA teams want to see. Afflalo was invited, but chose not to attend.
Has Phil Jackson and John Wooden ever met, and if not, do either of them have any interest in meeting the other?
I have no idea.
Have you seen Malcom Lee and Jerime Anderson play in person? Could you compare both players style of play to one another? If you have not seen them, what have you heard?
I have not seen Anderson play in person, but in talking to people whose opinion means far more than mine, they believe Anderson is better equipped to come in and play immediately. The believe Lee will have to grow into his position, but both are great kids.
What team would you say is the least successful team on campus? Where would you rank football?
I'm going to say football, based on not being in a BCS game for a decade and because the last few years they never really had a chance to win the Pac-10 title, although they were in contention for it on the final day last season. And, yes, I am taking into account that UCLA needs to lower its admission standards and pay its coaches more if they want to compete year-in and year-out for a title.
