UCLA BASEBALL'S JASON NOVAK EARNS PAC-10 PITCHER OF THE WEEK HONORS
Novak hurls seven scoreless innings through three relief appearances

WALNUT CREEK, Calif. - UCLA junior right-hander Jason Novak has captured Pac-10 Pitcher of the Week honors after having thrown seven scoreless innings in three relief appearances last week, totaling seven strikeouts while scattering four hits and earning one victory.

In the Bruins' 6-2 win over Loyola Marymount on Wednesday, Novak recorded his first victory of the year, striking out three while surrendering just one hit in 3.2 scoreless innings. Novak recorded one strikeout and issued one walk in relief Saturday, as UCLA registered an 8-3 win over No. 4 Arizona State.

Novak hurled three scoreless innings of relief against the Sun Devils on Sunday, May 4. The right-hander from Agoura, Calif., scattered three hits and tallied three strikeouts without issuing a walk in an 11-8 loss.

Novak has posted a 3.94 ERA in 11 relief appearances this spring. In his third season at UCLA, Novak has logged 58 career pitching appearances, the second-highest total of any current Bruin. Novak has registered a career 5-1 record and 81 strikeouts in 95.2 innings.

The Pac-10 Pitcher of the Week honor marks the first in Novak's career and is the 46th selection all-time for UCLA.

About Inside UCLA

This is Brian Dohn's sixth season covering UCLA after spending 4 1/2 years covering the Dodgers for the Daily News and other Los Angeles Newspaper Group papers. He graduated from Rutgers, where the first college football game was played in 1869. Sure, the Scarlet Knights suffered for a long time, but now RU is doing what Jerseyans always thought was possible. Winning at Rutgers also proves winning is possible everywhere else in the nation, so underachieving coaches better be careful. Now, if only men's hoops can turn it around.
