PROFILE

This is Brian Dohn's fifth season covering UCLA after spending 4 1/2 years covering the Dodgers for the Daily News and other Los Angeles Newspaper Group papers. He graduated from Rutgers, where the first college football game was played in 1869. Sure, the Scarlet Knights suffered for a long time, but now RU is doing what Jerseyans always thought was possible. Winning at Rutgers also proves winning is possible everywhere else in the nation, so underachieving coaches better be careful. Now, if only men's hoops can turn it around.

Rosario settles on UCLA

Oceanside El Camino High receiver Nelson Rosario visited Oregon and thought about changing his commitment, but he decided to stick with UCLA, and he informed the coaching staff of that today.
"I'm officially going with the Bruins,'' Rosario said. "It was a big decision. I liked both schools and the coaching staff's from both schools the same, It came down to being closer to the family."
Rosario said he hopes to play as a freshman, "but the coaches said it all depends on how hard I work when I get in there."

KD and the coaches got with a lot of quality kids early in the process. The whole transition has been made a bit easier securing these kids with their UCLA commitment.

As much as these kids will be molded by the Neuheisel, Walker and Chow, to me, they will be one of the lasting legacies that Dorrell brought to the program. KD may or may not have been able to take UCLA to the next level, but at least he made it a bit easier on the next guy.

Rick said Karl's name will always be remembered in reverent tones at UCLA, I hope the fans will echo those sentiments.

Yes KD will be remembered for being a stand-up guy and a classy individual. He will also be remembered for not being able to get his teams to produce on the field. He is and will always be a Bruin and I'm all for giving him credit where it is deserved but there are two sides to the coin.

Rosario is on the cusp of being a world-class long jumper and will very likely be out on the track each spring working with WR holder Mike Powell. This is good. That would've been disastrous to let him go to Oregon -- for both FB and T&F!
