Kraft eyeing spring
UCLA's latest commitment, Mt. SAC quarterback Kevin Craft, may be available for spring practice.
Craft said he would not be able to enroll at UCLA until the summer because of rules regarding his transfer from a Division I-A school (San Diego State) to a junior college. The NCAA rule, knowns as the 4-2-4 rule, stipulates a player must be out of a four-year school for a year before returning to a four year school, or he will have to sit out a year under transfer rules.
However, Craft already has his associates degree from Mt. SAC, and the possibility is being explored that he may be able to enroll at UCLA in the spring, and participate in spring practice.
"I know it's something UCLA is looking into,'' Mt. SAC coach Bob Jastrab said. "I think there is a chance, because he already has his associate's degree, that he can enroll and be there for spring practice."
If Craft, who was California's JUCO player of the year after throwing for 4,231 yards and 44 touchdowns in the fall, can enroll at UCLA for the spring quarter and participate in spring practice, it would give him a chance to compete with Ben Olson and Patrick Cowan for the starter's job.
I went to the Mt. Sac. vs. Moorpark game last Novenber and this kid looked great. I wondered why this kid was not getting more looks at the time. The last time I saw a J.C. QB throw this good was when Eric Kreamer was at Pierce College.
I know it was against JC talent but he looked better throwing than the guys we have seen (Olson & Cowen)I think he has better tools for Norm to work with than those two. We'll see
