PROFILE

This is Brian Dohn's fifth season covering UCLA after spending 4 1/2 years covering the Dodgers for the Daily News and other Los Angeles Newspaper Group papers. He graduated from Rutgers, where the first college football game was played in 1869. Sure, the Scarlet Knights suffered for a long time, but now RU is doing what Jerseyans always thought was possible. Winning at Rutgers also proves winning is possible everywhere else in the nation, so underachieving coaches better be careful. Now, if only men's hoops can turn it around.

brian, what % of plays on O have gained 2 or fewer yards YTD? THX!

As we said before the season, it is much easier to go from #113 ('05) in the nation in total defense to #35 ('06) than it is to go from #35 to top 10. Our defense is ranked #30 in terms of yards, and worse in other areas, and we haven't even played the tough teams yet. Walker still has to prove himself against the tough spread offenses Oregon, Wazzu and even Arizona, let alone Cal, ASU and SuC.

All I see it more talk from Bruce Davis and this type of PR and none of the winning mentality needed to actually do something.

Brian, going back to ND game --
Any reason Christian Ramirez wasn't given any time at RB, since Markey, Bell, and Moline were all dinged up?
I know you reported CR hurting a knee late in the week, but I thought I did see him get onto the field.

Thanks for the excellent reporting!

My understanding was his knee was not in shape to play tailback, but that he could play special teams.
