PROFILE

This is Brian Dohn's fifth season covering UCLA after spending 4 1/2 years covering the Dodgers for the Daily News and other Los Angeles Newspaper Group papers. He graduated from Rutgers, where the first college football game was played in 1869. Sure, the Scarlet Knights suffered for a long time, but now RU is doing what Jerseyans always thought was possible. Winning at Rutgers also proves winning is possible everywhere else in the nation, so underachieving coaches better be careful. Now, if only men's hoops can turn it around.

Polished Love

What UCLA frosh Kevin Love does on the court this season remains to be seen, but he is adept at dealing with the media. Here's a few examples:
Would he rather play power forward or center?
“It doesn’t really matter to me,’’ Love said. “Where ever I feel comfortable, which is pretty much on the court. I’ll do everything except play point guard.’’
He said Josh Shipp looked good in practice, even dunking a few times. But did Shipp dunk on Love?
"No. I’ll foul him before he does that,’’ Love said.
And what about the number of times Alfred Aboya knocked him down in the first two practices?
“It’s funny you say that because he knocked me down twice (Friday) night and twice (Saturday) in practice,’’ Love said. “That doesn’t happen that often.’’
