PROFILE

This is Brian Dohn's fifth season covering UCLA after spending 4 1/2 years covering the Dodgers for the Daily News and other Los Angeles Newspaper Group papers. He graduated from Rutgers, where the first college football game was played in 1869. Sure, the Scarlet Knights suffered for a long time, but now RU is doing what Jerseyans always thought was possible. Winning at Rutgers also proves winning is possible everywhere else in the nation, so underachieving coaches better be careful. Now, if only men's hoops can turn it around.

Looking ahead

Defensive coordinator DeWayne Walker said he was excited to put this loss behind him. I asked him if this coming bye week would serve more as a healing week, than one of big-time preparation, even with the bye coming up.
"Well, we better worry about the scheme, too, because Cal can hurt you on offense,'' he said. "They have damn good receivers, a good quarterback. They've got a running back. They're not skipping a beat offensively.
"To be honest with you, I can't wait to go to sleep so I can get in the office (Sunday) and start game-planning. They're going to be a helluva challenge for us. I can't really focus too much on this one. We have to get ready for Cal."
