PROFILE

This is Brian Dohn's fifth season covering UCLA after spending 4 1/2 years covering the Dodgers for the Daily News and other Los Angeles Newspaper Group papers. He graduated from Rutgers, where the first college football game was played in 1869. Sure, the Scarlet Knights suffered for a long time, but now RU is doing what Jerseyans always thought was possible. Winning at Rutgers also proves winning is possible everywhere else in the nation, so underachieving coaches better be careful. Now, if only men's hoops can turn it around.

Gauging OSU

UCLA right tackle Brian Abraham said running the ball against Oregon State could be difficult because "they're the best defense we'll face so far. I don't know if they are markedly better, but I do know that they're the best.''

Did Brian have any insight on what specifically makes OSU's run defense so effective?

He did, and he didn't describe it as basic Football 101. His take on it will be in Thursday's paper.

If the OSU defense is markedly better than Utah's, I think the Bruins may be in trouble.

Brian:
Not sure how comfortable you are addressing this but what is your take on what happened with Okla. State coach and his "protecting" his player outburst?

Sure hope that Dorrell sends them to Football 101 so they can counter the D-Line.

The football 101 thing is played out already. It's borderline petty IMO...
