If you're so tuff, why are you hiding behind a screen name? Does it Make it easier for you to rough up a kid on the blog tuff guy?

For the record, the Nieto post wasn't from me but some lower case don. I don't care who Napoleon rassles with at football games, never did.

Tuff Guy said:

Don,
Take your weak self off this thread. Nieto was with his small children and did not provoke the verbal assault he received from the lunatic parent. The parent's son got cut from the J.V. team and his other son got thrown out of Amat for stealing from his teammates' locker. Maybe the parent should take a look at his kids before he blames others. By the way have you taught your son how to block a ball in the dirt yet so he doesn't cost his team against Northview again.

nonsense said:

The dad had a few and went up to coach Nieto. The dad was bitter because his son was didn't make the JV team as a sophomore. The dad is banned from any Amat function on or away from campus for one year.

No crybabies! said:

Bunch of cry babies that will never make it to the next level. You people need to stop babying your kids cuz someone called him a name. So What! Thats a good way to weed out week players,ONLY THE STRONG SURVIVE. Stay out of practices or games if you cant take the heat. Your kids need to grow some balls and respond on the field. You dont think this continues in college and beyond? Go Amat! Go Nieto!

CHECK YOUR SOURCE said:

don,
It's been posted on another thread that the parent was actually the one who attacked Nieto, if your speaking of the St Bonnie episode. That's the problem with many of these he said she said stories. Who knows what to believe . Unless you were there and personally witnessed it you will never get the correct version so why bring it up .

don said:

hey does anybody have a video of the night nieto attacked a parent at a football game???? i would like to have amat staff see that video cause nieto was an embarrassment to amat. please post it if you have it!!!!

Who are the top players from Amat & South hills??

SDHS said:

KH - You are a joke and the laughingstock of La Verne. Bonita parents all say you are a coaches' nightmare and they all wish you were not around. You son is a good HS baseball player and football player and maybe he can play some Div II OR III ball someday, but that is it. I am not diminishing that as it would be a quite an accomplishment, esecially given who raised him. He is an outstading athlete and does not need you to come on here and tell us how great he is. He is probably embarrassed of all your dilusional and 1st grade level posts so do us all a favor and go away.

Don said:

Good points from Joe and COCf on the CCYB Tourney, great teams but by no means should it be considered some type of a championship of anything but the tourney itself. No Gorman, no Capo, no Desert Ridge, Cathedral, Poway, Chatsworth, etc, etc. Hard to consider it even a regional although there isn't a dog in the bunch.

That said, some great teams play on several really nice fields; it's a great way to see some excellent HS Baseball. Todd and the CCYB/PM folks do it up right every year.

BTW, thanks for the head's up to COCharger Fan. Now the Bergara's have moved on, I'll be looking for new faces among the Amat crew.

COChargerfan said:

Not to rain on this parade because this is a good tourney that is played at a great field (CSUF) by some good teams but let’s call it what it is…which is an INVITATIONAL sponsored by a bat manufacturer and the Placentia/CCYB (El Dorado High) folks and not some really prestigious “national” tourney that a team had to earn their way into.

In last year’s final, Mater Dei defeated El Toro and neither team got out of the 3rd round of the CIF playoffs (El Toro lost in the 2nd). Aptos played last year and that team went 5-20 and didn’t even get into the playoffs. El Dorado went 16-11 and was out in the 1st round…El Dorado as the “host” team plays every year and they’ve never won anything. In fact, none of last year’s local participants won a CIF title.

Now this year’s tourney does have two defending title-holders in SH and Crespi plus teams like Orange Lutheran, Mater Dei and Amat that have teams that should contend for titles…so the field appears much stronger than what showed up last year.

Kh, I’m not sure of the entire time frame of the 2010 Glendora tourney but Northview’s schedule on highschoolsports.net has them playing from Saturday 3/6 to 3/13. It is usually played the first week of March so this is probably accurate meaning that it won’t conflict with the Anderson Tourney that is set for the first week of April. So, SH and Amat can play both. But, looking at highschoolsports.net, Amat is set to play the Elks tourney 3/5, 3/6 and 3/8 and SH is in the Don Lugo tourney on 3/5, 3/8, 3/10 and 3/12 so it looks like neither team is going to the Glendora tourney this season. And, San Dimas is also in the Don Lugo tourney so they are also out. Too bad, because the Glendora tourney is the one chance for all the local teams to get together and play.

dose that mean ba will not be in the glendora classic.would love to see s.h. play in classic.

Charter Oak is not in the National Classic. School invited are:

Bishop Amat, CA
South Hills, CA
El Dorado, CA
Esperanza, CA
The Pendleton School, Fl
Mater Dei, CA
Notre Dame Prep, AZ
Salpointe Catholic, AZ
Crespi, CA
West Ranch, CA
Palm Desert, CA
Edison, CA
Orange Lutheran, CA
Cottonwood, UT
Peninsula, CA
Marin Catholic, CA

Make MaxPreps.com your friend. Finding info on the teams is simple. I would note that fewer teams seem to be traveling given the state of the economy... but still a great tournament. A couple years ago bloggers here were saying you only got invited if you were a section champion. Obviously - that's not true. They just invite great programs. Make a trip to the OC and see some of the best HS baseball around.

by the way the money thing.....we have to charge to cover costs of the events they play in. Our 2011 team played at U of San Diego, San Diego State, Cal State Fullerton, Pepperdine and Loyola Marymount. A couple more schools are working out the details, They went to the Jr. Fall Classic in Arizona. They will play in the Cory Lidle tournament and will participate in our scout day. They also got two game pants, two game tops, practice shirt, shorts and cap. We charge them only $500.00 to cover all this and any other games from September to January. The parents in our program think the $500.oo is minimal considering camps can run from $200 to $600 for one weekend. Where did you hear we charge the big bucks?

KH,

I did not post about our scout day at Maverick for tomorrow. If I do post, I post with sgvbaseball.com. Don can confirm this as this happened last year. The thing with this blog is the is not regulated therefore anyone can post with anyone's user name. Our scout day is for our program only as have done this for the past four years. Please feel free to call me if you have questions. All the information is on the website.

nice plug for your arsenal team, but you forgot to tell about the big bucks behind playing with the arsenal and all the politics,no thanks.so your saying the arsenal well have 3 to 4 players repping all the sgv hs teams tomorrow from every league there.right or just the hand picked players with there check books, i could be wrong maybe its free being there tomorrow but i know forsure the arsenal are not free.most of the better athletes are still playing football and cant make it tomorrow.why would ther be a bunch of pro scouts out tomorrow, half of them havnt even recieved there 2010 contract winter meeting still ahead..front offices are more concentrating on minor league roster and signing 5th year free agents..not high school or college prospects. worked as a scout know the system.both players we signed from india had good years with the pittsburg org. thats right not a local scout yet.but been a world scout going on 4 years now.so tell me what time tomorrow and i would love to go see the players work out. love baseball Ken Huth

There are a few newcomers(juniors)that will make an impact for Amat this year. I agree with Berg(RHP)working some innings. Also returning junior Dominguez(RHP)worked innings last year in tournament play. 2nd/ss,Velasquez and Castaneda. Great gloves and a good stroke from the left side in Velasquez. Castaneda RHB with a good stick. Possible backup to Mcclanahan is Zavala, good pop may be used as DH for now.

it could bring some bragging rights, on witch league is the toughest.well as far as the scouts go theres alot of late round picks.the more you see somebody play the better reports are made, plus it cost alot for mlb teams moving scouts around valley seeing players, and this way you have almost 40 h.s. seniors to watch once a week.
rome wasnt built in aday, its just a thaught boys.ken huth

kh, you have a fun idea, but we dont need a league or all star team for the scouts to view these sgv all-star players. If your from the sgv and your worth being seeing, then you've already been noticed and contacted.

kh said:

what do you think of having a allstar team of 3to4 playing from there leagues, each coach picks 3or4 players from there team.and the start a league allstar game.playing each leagues with top seniors could give college coaches plus scouts a chance to see the top high school players.and it would be fun at the end, the two best records meet in the freeway bowl series.
the games could be played on mondays during the season.pitchers can only throw one inning.
let me have some feed back . ken huth ps its not a inter city games ,its about college and pro scouts seing are future studs

Werd up,

When you do that for baseball, rather than football, it sounds really weird.

You know, it's allot like putting ketchup on your cheerios...it's just not the same thing.

Anyway, as funny as this may sound (in my opinion), Amat only truly dominates this valley in football (and maybe girl’s basketball too) but not really, not in any of the other sports.

So, while it may be true that Amat is a private institution, just like the earlier blogger said, I nevertheless believe that a great many of the local schools in this area can most certainly compete against Amat at any of the other levels. In fact, if we look closely at this blog and of course at any of the other sports that are played in this valley (including soccer, volleyball etc..) Amat doesn’t always dominate the conversations.

Sure we got a great baseball team, but if memory serves me correctly, we lost to a local team in the playoffs last year didn’t we ?

So why not create a local league in all the other sports regardless of Division ?

I for one would believe that that would be an awesome idea and it would most certainly save allot of money on gas that’s for sure.

Well Glendora will take in home this year. They have the returning ace #22 Michael 6-3 last year with a 3-1 strikeout ration. #18 Plukto has to step it up this year he is a talented young man but i dont know whats in his head. returning infield and outfield. only 3 Sr's Graduated last year 1 that actually played. my money is on glendora. as long as they stay Healthy. They have great pitching and great fielding.

Go get them Glendora!!!!

Amat 10 said:

Amat has 2 holes to fill and they are both huge. Nick Bergara was a 3 time all league selection for the Lancers. He was a big bat for the Lancers. It looks like the job will go to either Levi Garcia or Chris Montes. Amat also has to replace Brady Zuniga and his 10 wins. Looks like that job will go to Brandon McNitt. Last time we saw him he was having a meltdown against SD. Newcomers to the varsity that should make an impact are Nick Martinez, Brandon Castaneda, and David Berg.

I've heard Plutko is up to 93mph these days. Is anybody else in the sgv even close? I know about Dylan Covey, AJ Berglund, Chris Willson, and Gabe Encinas......but they aren't playing in the sgv.

COChargerfan said:

Don't know if some kid like Plutko or Chris Wilson at St. Paul to name two will produce those kind of numbers this coming season but that is not my point...I'm saying that if such a kid does come onto the scene than he will be able to carry a team...like McKiernan did for Monrovia. The odds are that one or two of these great pitchers will step forward this year...and in a few months we'll be talking about him.

Don said:

COChargerfan,

10-12 K's per game is a lot. You're talking about a Dylan Covey type pitcher and those guys are few and far between. More likely is a Nico Calderaro type who, while still a dominant HS Pitcher, throws about half as many strikeouts although the heavy sinker and change got him a lot of double plays.

I do agree with you that a single dominant Pitcher can lead his team to a great season, certainly a league title in many cases. Lack of pitching depth on a team from a balanced league usually doesn't show up until the second week of playoffs.

Charter Oak will be an interesting proposition this season. As best I can tell, Miles and Mattie are the only returning day to day players and they only have one pair of shoulders between them. It will also be dicey hanging Quinner's hat on the arms of Santiago and Reynoso alone. Both can have issues. Jake WILL be missed.

COCharger Fan,
10 - 12 K's per game... Please show me who has those #'s..... Nobody in the area...
As for the kid with the bad arm, He is throwing the ball again with no problems. I agree with you that pitching will be key for these teams as well as all teams in the area. I believe we will see 2 CIF champs come from the area and maybe a 3rd. Bishop Amat will definitely win along with South Hills. Both teams are loaded with talent. Damien and Glendora are also possible. Can't wait for the season to get here.

Shaun Kennedy and George Holland will play huge roles for SD. Have received good feedback about these two.

COChargerfan said:

Baseball may be a team sport but the game is played by "individuals"...your teammates can’t help you catch, throw or hit...and a dominate pitcher doesn't need much more than a few teammates that can catch his pitches (while he strikes out 10-12 kids) and make a few easy plays for the other outs...not that hard to find…and an offense that squeezes out a run or two a game. And yes, a pitcher can completely dominate a game...apparently you wanna-be experts never played or else you'd understand...my alma mater Monrovia won a title in 2006 because of ONE kid…Eddie McKiernan…93 mph fastball gets a "team" a long way in the CIF playoffs and also got Eddie the “individual” drafted by the Angels. Sure, Eddie had eight other kids on the field but he was pulling like 90% of the load all by himself. The point is in baseball, unlike football or basketball, there aren’t any “defensive adjustments” that are available to get the ball out of the hand of a player that is running the table…the pitcher just gets to pick the ball up and chuck it past each kid that comes to the plate…and that is the unique part my friends.

SD, I'm aware of your team...the freshman (now sophomore) is your current QB and I also heard that he doesn't pitch. And, I heard that one of the returning potential pitchers, who I won't name, has a bad arm so it is up in the air whether he pitches…so you may be down to one true starter. Both CO and SD are going to be putting a lot on new kids on the field so only time will tell what they have in terms of offense and defense. Which, is why pitching will be so important for both of these teams.

Rebuild It and They Will Win said:

San Dimas is a team built on Sophomores and Juniors so they will be rebuilding but they do have some decent arms. Well coached and and they play team baseball and don't trust on single stars to get them through. Santiago is gonna be a stud for CO but he is still a year or so away from a dominating array of pitches (Awesome hook he has) through experience.

Bottom line is that the San Gabriel Valley is filled with a lot of talented baseball players and I predict another championship comes from the valley whether it be Amat, South Hills (Jake Shirley), Glendora, Damien or another school.

SGV Baseball said:

Amat had 7 players named 1st Team All-League last season, with 6 of those players returning. Is Amat the best team in the SGV?
1)Jerry McClanahan(12)
2)Paul Paez(12)
3)Rio Ruiz(10)
4)Jordan McCraney(11)
5)Jay Anderson(11)
6)Adrian Franco(11)
This team is STACKED!

just observing said:

COCharger Fan,

SD has 2 pitchers that are back off the varsity squad, LHP, RHP, that didn't pitch much last year due to the talent they had. Also, they have a freshman starter from last years team that I hear has the best arm of them all but does not want to pitch. I believe SD will struggle this year but will still be ok. I hope they get in the Glendora tourney so they can play some good teams....

its going to be a fun year to watch. all the big studs are gone.but glendora has been saying this group of kids cant lose,we played in glendora pony allstars with the same group, made some noise in the allstars, but when it came down to going to the next level all of a sudden, one of the coaches take 6 kids and himself off to a so called travel ball world series out of state.what a joke .why did glendora let these kids play on the team knowing they where going to screw up the allstars.bad management.k.c and i should of went fishing,we wasted alot of that summer.k.c. plays to win .,so i question there hearts,k.c and bonita are 1-0 verse glendora in the big games.b.a. they have some really good players, will be tough to beat.south hills not impressed at all,one kid had a good game, but they have good coaching from what ive heard.
nv has some good players, watched them this winterball right fielder is good,so if bonita gets the balk called back .then its bonita going to the big dance, after watching all the bad calls in the playoffs time after time.am sorry but you dont make a call to end a season of hard work, am going to say it again umps please get better angles leave your anger at the bar or home.its not about you old guys. its about the kids.i know most of the umps are ex players who just didnt have it .they where that exart pitcher in practice who the coach would say go ump during the practice games.and try to screw the starting pitcher..well there still doing there little tricks, get a grip blue. this year is the year to step up,pick up your fellow ump dont let him show the hole crew up.you guys are getting paid,be accountable for your money.

Many good teams have been mentioned and rightly so. The one team that has not been mentioned is the Damien Spartans. They went to the qtr. finals and got beat by Crespi, eventual champions. Damien brings several starters back and some of the youngs guns have grown up. Plus, Leyva is back and that will make a difference They will be able to compete with anyone in the SGV and beyond.

GO Spartans!!

jcaz,

Interesting concept indeed.

One possible hole: People ALWAYS moaning that Amat has no attendance boundries and that makes it an 'unfair' playing field.

Amat already gets that static in it's current division.

what? said:

it only takes one player to win a game? hummm that one player can't do everything, pitch, catch, make plays on the field and hit, baseball is a team sport.

COChargerfan said:

Hey jcaz...I see you left CO and Bonita out of your league...what goes are you "afraid" of them? Just kidding. For my money Glendora and Amat have the most returning but I give the nod to Glendora because UCLA bound pitcher Adam Plutko is very good. Both San Dimas and CO are rebuilding (they both will be replacing their entire infields and catcher) this year but I believe that CO will be better because they have two very good pitchers in Travis Santiago and Joe Reynoso and San Dimas doesn't have anything near them. Baseball is unique in that it only takes one player to win a game.

I remember that Fred said last year that while the SGV may not always field the strongest teams in all of the CIF sponsored sports, that the SGV nevertheless stands toe to toe with anyone in southern California when it comes to baseball.

I believe that in this particular instance, the idea of having a league or even a division where the local talent could compete against one another, would just be incredible.

In fact, wouldn’t it be great to have a local league made up of San Dimas, South Hills, Amat and Glendora just to name a few ? How awesome would that be ?

And talk about bragging rights to the winner, whew !

In it's last year under the current format, the Miramonte will be as even as it ever has been.
