Just Tribbin, Football
Anything and anyone you want to talk about

After careful consideration I have delayed peaking too far ahead and putting together a pre-season top ten football poll, and discussing the top players returning at each position, etc, etc. We can do that when spring football begins, plus I need to save some of that good conversation for the dog days of summer. But I'm curious to know what you think the top ten might look like next fall. Without a doubt Charter Oak starts No. 1 in my opinion, but the rest is debatable. Where will Damien fall under first year coach Greg Gano, and how will all the teams that made other coaching changes do? What will San Dimas, Northview, Diamond Ranch, Bonita, Bishop Amat and Rosemead look like after graduating so many studs. And how far will West Covina, Glendora, Rowland and Walnut rise with so many studs back. Anyways, this is your chance to give us a sneak preview. What does your top ten look like?

Rowland or Walnut taking the San Antonio League in 09? Hmmm, I think WC would take it before either of them do... Oh yea and S.H. will just come in last right? Or wait I think they'll beat atleast Nogales... Yea maybe they'll beat Nogales, r u ok Mustang?

Spring Practice,
That was a nice update on Walter Thurmond, if he stays healthy he should have an exciting year for Oregon.
Posted by: Dan | April 6, 2009 4:51 PM
From U. of Oregon's web page
Walter Thurmond III must have grown some wings in the offseason because he was flying all over the field this week. Considering that he was hampered by injury most of last season - and still led the Pac-10 in picks and jump-started the Holiday Bowl comeback with that 91-yard kickoff return after halftime - a healthy, senior version of WTIII could be an absolute menace to opposing offenses next fall.

Gano's having a camp this summer too! Plus he's trying to contact the local Pop-Warner football coaches right now!
Bonita better be careful, Gano is tryting to lure kids to Damien!

Jacob Smith,
I do respect CO. and always have, I was responding to the people who are guaranteeing a CO vs D.Ranch finals, there will be a few other teams who will have something to say about that.
Yes CO did beat us twice in 07, but WC still has 7 players that were sophmore
starters that season who remember those games well,
they will be seniors now so CO won't have as easy of a time if the two teams meet this year.
As for Shirley playing QB for S.Hills the last I heard is that he wasn't having much fun playing football, so take it from there.
My first impression tells me that CO should be the favored team in the south east, but the more I think about it the more I see this division as wide open.
The Chargers will have good skill players coming back, but Chris Allen will be a big loss
and I think the loss of Williams & Perry on the lines will have a bigger impact than most people think, those three players
plus Muema where the difference between CO & the rest of the division.
Muir, Santa Fe, & Burroughs Burbank always seem to put out good teams at this caliber, and every so often they can field some extremely good teams for this division, South Hills will be returning just about all of their key skill players, & with this possible new transfer they could be very good. Walnut will have Rhodes and some others back and correct me if I'm wrong but I believe
next seasons juniors over at Rowland were undefeated
or like 9 & 1 as freshmen, maybe someone from Rowland can shed some lite on this, if so, then Rowland
could be very tough for the next couple of years.
As for our Bulldogs the more I hear about them, the brighter things look for next season, the key will be if the kids can stay as dedicated as they now are , & another important factor is if a key player or two will stay eligible
grade wise, its up to you Bulldogs, hope you make it happen.
Posted by: Dan | April 5, 2009 7:11 PM
It look like Rowland or Walnut will take San Anntonio league in 09.
Rhodes will just run all over everyone. Cooper and Peralta not to sure of
Posted by: Mustang | April 5, 2009 1:12 PM
From the other side of the 605, I would say two teams who look primed for 09 are Monrovia and Arroyo.
Both teams look exceptionally strong on the defensive side of the ball.
On offense, Monrovia loses Marquise Williams, but has SEVERAL studs in waiting at RB... and a now experienced QB in Nick Bueno, a run/pass threat. More so, the word is Maddox has the offseason program in full gear, with the whole M-town war party confident and jelling.
The Arroyo kids got serious field time last year, and this will pay off this year- as 18 or so starters return. This is a well coached team and 09 could very well be the year of the Knight.

I dont know why some people have Los Altos as
"maybe" cracking the top 10. Theyve been dodging Workman this year, since workman has been trying to schedule them for the upcoming year. Really, come on. And dont sleep on Workman this year, returning most of their starters on both sides of the ball, from a 5-5 team. Senior loaded. Cant wait.
Posted by: inevitable | April 4, 2009 9:19 PM
Dan,
Tell your Bulldogs to keep Charter Oak on their schedule and then you can gain some creditability and last I remember Charter Oak did beat you twice in one year a few years ago. How come you never give Charter Oak any credit and do I need to remind you they are C.I.F. Champions! Better yet, do you really think West Covina can compete with the Huskies now that they have transfers both at QB (your quarterback) and RB?

To tell you the truth, it isn’t as if Frank and I share spit or anything, but to tell you the truth, I think I’d rather have good old Frank lining up on my side rather than against me.
I mean he has friends in high places.
Actually, all kidding aside, I don’t think too many folks come in here expecting to get so many people riled up all the time.
That truly wasn’t the intent of that last post of mine.
It was simply tong in cheek, no more, no less.
I suppose however, that when a joke that is meant to be funny isn’t to someone else, then perhaps it shouldn’t have been said in the first place.
Posted by: jcaz | April 4, 2009 1:02 PM
Always nice to know that I am remembered even when I don't post. Now jcaz you should know our good buddy FC has ZERO sense of humor. Did you expect him to laugh at your stab at humor toward him? Hell I have been trying to get him to laugh for years but he takes every word on this blog literally.
I tell ya what it's a little early in the morning but I will suck down a cold beer in toast to the tribunes comedian jcaz. This buds for your jcaz. Joe Amat that was funny. You should post jokes more often.
Can't wait for football season to begin so we can get rid of the rest of the boring sports. Wonder which school will rise up with a "fire our coach" fan club. Wilson and Damien took the lead so which school will it be this year? As usual it makes for great blogging.

joe amat is a
left-over old joke !
Posted by: rgd2626 | April 4, 2009 10:33 AM
CO fans...there is alot of talk about Thropay vs. Santiago at QB. Where does Alvarado fall into the mix?
Those upset about the Amat camp need to get over it. They are playing by the rules. Glendora does the same thing. Other schools should as well. It is a great tool for your program's future development.
jcaz, that was hilarious. Frank takes himself too seriously.
On the other hand, JoeAmat should be ashamed for reheating a left-over, old joke. Be a little more original.

Stop being such as suck up. You got it right the first time. This guy Frank is a total BAFOON. He makes the other bloggers mad at him all of the time, so why do you have to be such a nice guy and kiss up to him ?

Its looking good for DR again. We have lost 4 major studs this year but gained 2. Look for DR to be an underdog all year again!!! Said it last year will say it this year, just watch!! BA beating DR this year aint gonna happen. I dont even want to go into that game last year but for all of those who know including the staff who apologized for the bad call, they were OK. SH, WC, cant see us and will not. The only school I am sure we will have trouble with is CO. HANDS DOWN.

Hey come on Frank, it was just tong in cheek there big guy.
No need to get all worked up over it. Really.
In fact, I know that even now, you’re probably cooking up a good yarn even as we speak.
Look big guy, if you took it wrong way, then I’ll be the first one in here to offer my apology.
I mean it.
Sorry if you think I took it to far ok.

A comment to the u-tube video that was posted on the Amat camp. There is no wonder that they always get great athletes. You can't tell me that there is no recruiting going on at the camp. CIF should not allow these kind of camps to be held on the campus and run by the coaches. This is just a way around the no recruiting rule. I am sure there is mention on how great a place Amat is to play football. Never will my kids attend there.
Posted by: Playbytherules | April 3, 2009 10:46 PM

Arroyo High School is going to be good this year. They are going to win the MVL. Rosemead and SEM are very weak because of graduation. Arroyo has 27 returners and majority of them are starters.

Did you not read the teams that I mentioned? Go back & read my previous post regarding how Ganesha was able to compete this past season in the VVL with the exception of the San Dimas & Northview game, & how I highly doubt that the teams in the Montview with the exception of Azusa & Duarte would not be able to hang in the VVL. Please don't let your arrogance get the best of you buddy
I know that Azusa defeated Covina, I was there..
Why would BP go down to the Montview? Thats JUST RIDICULOUS!! They would pretty much own the Montview League!! You made no sense what so ever with that comment.
& your assuming that people are going to be saying look who you beat, yeah your right but where your wrong is that they will be telling that to Ganesha!
Ganesha is more than capable of winning league titles in the Montview, they already beat 2 of your schools in football!! & i'm pretty sure can excel & hold their ground in other sports.
Posted by: ST G54 | April 3, 2009 7:38 PM
ST G54,
UUUHHHH! Didn't AZUSA win Covina this season in the FIRST ROUND C.I.F PLAYOFFS this season. Come on now, you better do a little homework before you start saying anything...
Why would the Montview league down grade, they should have placed Baldwin Park instead! You want to be competive and excel, not play a school were bloggers are going too say, LOOK WHO YOU BEAT (GANESHA)and here all these bad mouth comments."You got to play the best, to be the best".
Posted by: montviewfollower | April 3, 2009 6:54 PM
On a lighter note try this one:
So Jcaz and Frank are the first ones to arrive at Franks long-planned Bloggers Pizza Bash. Frank asks if he would like to play a game to pass the time. Jcaz, who really just wants to drink, politely declines and tips back another one.
Frank persists and says the game is easy and a lot of fun. He explains, "I ask you a question, and if you don't know the answer, you pay me $5.00, and vice versa."
Again, Jcaz declines and tries to get some sleep. Frank, now agitated, says, "Okay, if you don't know the answer you pay me $5.00, and if I don't know the answer, I will pay you $500.00."
This catches Jcaz's attention; and figuring there will be no end to this torment unless he plays, he agrees to the game.
Then Frank asks the first question: "What former Salesian Football Coach sent his kids to Bishop Amat?"
Jcaz doesn't say a word, reaches into his pocket, pulls out a $5.00 bill, and hands it to Frank. "Okay," says the Frank, "it's your turn."
Jcaz asks Frank, "What goes up a hill with three legs but comes down with four legs?"
Frank, a bit puzzled, takes out his iPhone and searches all his references--no answer. He Googles it and searches the Net and the Library of Congress--no answer. Frustrated, he sends e-mails to all his friends and coworkers, to no avail. After an hour, and still no other bloggers, Frank elbows Jcaz and hands him $500.
So Jcaz says "Thank’s Frank" and orders another drink.
Frank, who is more than a little miffed, pushes Jcaz and asks, "Well…. what's the answer?"
Without a word, Jcaz reaches into his pocket, hands the Frank $5.00.....
and goes back to drinking.

Yes that is exactly what I am saying, due to the fact that both of those wins were to MONTVIEW LEAGUE TEAMS. (BASSETT & GLADSTONE)..
& would any team other than Azusa & Duarte in the Montview even be able to hang with Pomona, Baldwin Park, & Covina?? I DONT THINK SO!!!
If you want to go ahead and use the 48 (not 50) on the field loosing streak (meaning forfieted games were not taken into account) as a reason for not wanting Ganesha in the Montview thats just plain
RIDICULOUS!!
& What does that have to do with anything to begin with?
Ganesha needs releif & like it or not the Montview will bring that..
& please stop saying you dont need another Bassett, Ganesha has had teams that make CIF, if anything it will strengthen the Montview.

Ganesha holds the worst record in all of California. Please we don't need another school like Bassett! Okay you have some new coaches, but lets not get to ahead of ourselves.Your going to have to prove yourself for few more years, before you start making comments. Ganesha in the Montview league is STRAIGHT OUT!

Today I want to talk to you about Damien. Not because I have anything of interest to say, but because I just finished off a bottle of scotch and im drunk off my ass and I just wanted to piss off a few people in here today. BTW, did I ever tell you that my kid got accepted at Princeton?
Anyways, I remember a story, when I was at Selieain, there was this young kid who was able to get accepted as a student there, even though he hadn’t even been potty trained yet. Sure, he had a few problems getting dates and all, but I told him to over look all his short comings and that in the end, all he had to do was to try real hard, and the good lord would provide (I have a habit of telling inspiring stories on this blog, don’t you know).
Anyway as I was saying, over at Damien, there was this kid who, Ops…wrong story. I get confused sometimes. I think it’s because of the scotch. BTW, did I ever tell you that my kid got accepted at Harvard?
But I digress, anyhow, there was this thing that happened over at Damien. Some guy dumped green paint on my car and totally ruined the upholstery.
Now don’t get me wrong, it wasn’t the fact that I hated green, but it was the fact that I really hate anyone who has a good joke to tell (just ask my pal jcaz). Yup, it still bothers me, even to this day, because I am constantly being reminded of it by this guy named King Stud.
For some reason or another, this guy doesn’t like me.
To this day, I just can’t figure out why anyone would think me to be a pompous ass, but hey, everybody’s got an opinion right? Jeremy, are you getting any of this? Don’t count on that Pizza any time soon, cause I have still have to save a few extra dollars for my kid’s tuition to Yale?
BTW, did I tell you that he got accepted there?
Yup, im a proud alumni of Silesian, and to tell you the truth, I could be any happier than to call myself a Spartan. Ops there I go again. Must be the scotch.

Please Ganesha is no where near as bad as Bassett, that's just ridiculous.
With the exception of the San Dimas & Northview game this past football season, Ganesha more than competed with the schools in the Valle Vista League, in part due to the new coaching staff that took over.

The Montview League is already considered the weakest League, and hardly gets any respect.
So why would we want Ganesha in the league, they're as bad as BASSETT HIGH SCHOOL.
Thank goodness they turned Ganesha down, and stay with the Valley Vista League, they need a team that they can surely win!
Thanks but no thanks...

Posted by: Cohs | April 3, 2009 3:28 PM
Actually Slaker, Big Lou will be competing for his fifth championship ring. And Charter Oak Starts on Top hands down, not just because I'm a fan of the team but they have an All-American on the team i mean come on who else has one in the valley? And Bishop is right their too i think that kid jay anderson is going to have a breakthrough year. They got a good coach so will see what happens over in the real LP. But Adam Muema is going to run wild next year. All-American Corner back Dennis Rufus will have his side on lock. Patrick Dallen, Keith Smith and Brandon Golden will take care of the Linebacker duties, just like they did last year when they won the championship. And Big Boy Clapper And Andy Orozoco returning linemen from the championship team will guide the new group of linemen but they got a lot of playing time already last year so. The big question Quarter back, Santiago or Thropay. Well thats in the air for now. but no matter what Santiago will be returning punts and kickoff returns. oh ya and i almost forgot A.J. Powell woooo he's going to cause some concussions next year. The hammer is back and full effect. Looks like another good year on covina blvd for the charter oak champions.

For those who question why So Hills did not make the 10 picks. So. Hills run may be over. Cameron Deen made them who they were last year. This year the cubbard is bare. WC,Walnut and Rowland finish on top of So. Hills in the San Antonio and with 3 teams representing in the CIF well you know who will be the on the outs. The Huskie ran the table long enough and now they will have to start a rebuilding program. Bogan will rebuild, count on it but this up coming season he will take his lumps.
Posted by: Robert S. | April 3, 2009 1:37 PM
1)Charter Oak (defending champ)
2)Bishop Amat (Big improvement from last year coaching a big plus)
3)Glendora (They just find that way to win year in and year out)
4)West Covina (Ricky will run like no tomorrow)
5)Damien (Not really Gano but the rest of the staff will have that team prepared).
6)Walnut (Leonard Rhodes and Peralta are back. Their line is a unknown??)
7) Diamond Ranch (Lost lots of core players but Roddy finishes strong)
8)Rowland (looked very promising last year they do not drop off in talent that much)
9)Duarte (new coach new system could prove to be steal)
10)Bonita (well coached always in the hunt)
Darkhorse: Los Altos (altho written off by many,, with one year under his belt Felipe can only improve upwards. Never count out a traditional team)
