Baseball: Bonita rallies to beat Charter Oak

Above: Bonita's Brian Tuttle, center, celebrates with his Bearcats teammates after scoring the winning run in a 2-1 victory over Charter Oak

Bonita 2, Charter Oak 1: Maybe Bonita High School is a team of destiny this season.
The Bearcats looked the part Friday.
Jiovanni Mier hit a homerun in the sixth to to tie the score and Brian Tuttle scored on a wild pitch in the seventh as top-ranked Bonita rallied for a 2-1 victory over visiting Charter Oak.
Nico Calderaro tossed a one-hitter and struck out two to improve to the 3-1.
Tuttle went 2 for 3 for the Bearcats, who improved 7-1 overall and 3-0 in the Miramonte League. Joe Reynoso (2-2), who gave up four hits and struck out, was the tough-luck loser for the Chargers, who slipped to 6-4 and 3-1.
Tuttle let off the seventh with a single. Travis Santiago, who replaced Reynoso, then struck out Calderaro before pinch-hitter Evan Highley singled off shortstop Danny Tiffany's glove. Tuttle and Highley then advanced following a wildpitch before Tuttle scored on a second wild pitch to win it.
Bonita coach John Knott: "We always tell them it's one pitch at time. If you have a bad at-bat, flush it and root for the next guy. I think the kids stayed in the game. They didn't put their heads down. We stayed in the game, played defense and Nico pitched a hell of game.
It was fun game. It was intense, every pitch mattered and we got a huge hit from Jiovanni, which allowed us to relax a bit. We'll take it."
Charter Oak coach Tom Quinley: "(Santiago) is going to be a good one. The ball just got away. It was a good curveball, (Jeff Gelalich) swung at it, but it bounced and ricocheted away."

Nine years? Doubtful, and the card dosen't prove that.

Maybe kicked-out of basbeall too! Tell the truth, not fiction!

Hey kh, it's hard to talk baseball one on one w/ you when you don't have the stones to put down your real name big guy. Nobody said you can't have an opinion but don't say it's an easier play to throw the runner out at home when you have to tag him then it is to force him out at home.
I'm a local La Verne guy, I'll talk sports with you at any game you want but at least wear a sign that has "kh" on it so I know it's you...big guy.

kevin read the whole satuation, first of all a wild pitch moved the runners to second and third.so then they walked matt to load the bases.heres what i saw. c.o. had the middle infielders back.theres no way your going to turn two on big jello,,so why not have your only play would be all infield in and throw out runner at home. thats what the blgs.. all about, and as far as you running your mouth about me playing pro ball ,played thur the 80s nine season minor leagues and we didnt play for the money, played because we loved the game ,,made some money but nothing to write home about.coached c.s.l.a. 4 years. p.c.c 3 years took many local kids off the st. and if i want to say what i think kevin am going to.kevin if your scared call the cops..maybe you are one..do you think because someones a local high school coach, there god.please. maybe they can make or break lots of kids high school years. but the real players will rise to the top sooner or later..i would love to talk baseball one on one anytime big guy ... your friend k.h.

kevin donald

kh has forgotten more about baseball than half the coaches in the valley know, he earns his money from pro baseball, so be carefull who you call out on the blog

kh

Be a good parentd just let the guys coach. It's pretty apparent there doing pretty good this year.

Aybody could second guess a coach!

Good signature win for Amat. Millikan was coming off a great week shutting out both LB Poly and LB Wilson. Amat also shut down future 1st rd. pick Jonathan Singleton with Nieto pulling out the 4 man outfield.

kh,

You must know nothing about baseball. The coaches did exactly the right thing in that situation w/ runners on second & third & one out. You load up the bases & either try to get a force out at home or a double play. It's textbook baseball.
Next time before you shoot your mouth off on the blog, please know what you are talking about. Please everyone, let's try supporting the players & coaches along w/ Fred & Steve to keep the blog positive.

South Hills 11
Walnut 1

Sounds like a great game. Did John Knott go to Gladstone High? Perhaps, I am thinking about another John Knott. Well, if he did go to Gladstone, he certainly had a good mentor in Coach Remkus.

Santiago is gonna blow his arm out at this rate. he is very talented but throwing so many curveballs with such stress and violence on his elbow/arm is gonna catch up to the kid. He is a competitor and will be playing big time baseball somewhere after high school...if his arm doen not fall off before that.

Bishop Amat won its' second come from behind game of the weekend Saturday with an exciting 4-3 victory over Long Beach Millikan High School. The game was played at Long Beach Millikan.

pass ball wild pitch.who cares, in results game over, bonita on top .the good teams find ways to win.the others find ways to lose. but what i have a promblem with is why did they walk little brother to get to big brother, thats ok,so they load the bases there only play would be infield in throw out runner at the plate on a ground ball right ,your not going to double up big jello to end the game. hes a 6.6 or 6.7 runner coach...then why didnt you have infield up??????? your middle was back, to turn two,so why not take your shot at litle jello..have the book right in front of you, his last two at bats he hit the ball hard to the infield,,over coaching happens all the time .

COHS,
The wild-pitch/passed-ball call is one of the most-subject rulings in baseball scorekeeping. The ball was in the dirt and most scorers would rule a ball in the dirt a wild pitch. It's kind of like a throw from the infield to first base in the dirt that the first baseman can dig out. It's usually ruled an error on the throw, not the non-catch.

It's like i told you so huh fred, i knew santiago was going to burst onto the scene. And by the way it wasn't a wildpitch, the first one was, but the second one was a passed ball totally bailey's fault especially for being a third year starting catcher. bailey needs to catch santiago on his spare time so they can get his curveball down that curveball is nasssssssty.

Bonita vs CO is always nostalgic for us. Lots of great memories with good friends. I just want to tip my hat to Joseph Reynoso, he did a great job on the hill. Bonita is a very good hitting team and he keep them off balance with that dirty bender! It wasn't Bonita's most productive day and I'm sure they will be looking forward to the next face off. It was good to see the CO Allstar teams from the past!! Good game! Good job Bonita, way to finish.

Damien 8 vs Corona 2
Good for 3rd place in Chino Tourney

The Miramonte could end up a two horse race if Joe Reynoso and Travis Santiago continue to exceed expectations. Kissell alone just isn't enough and breaking down the IF to let Hernandez or Tiffany throw isn't a very attractive option.

Props to the Bearcats for hanging in there and pulling a close one out.
