If anyone here truly feels fiat currency is worthless then feel free to give me all your money.

Money is so intangible, its almost like a promise and a piece of paper.

Ha i remember the good ole days when the Dukes had Andrew Mistone from amat, Danny Roddy and Tyler Bufffington from shhs and Michael Cuevas from La puente all starting and beatin the crap out of everyone. Good for all of u great years!

to all those experts said:

to all those experts who know more about the all star games than coaches need to realize that seniors can only play in one game. It is up to the selection committee to place NOMINATED players on the roster. There were 5 DR baseball players nominated to 3 different All Star games. Your coach has resurrected a once pathetic program. Get off his case.

Also a few strong SGV Cobras in there. Lots of talent in the SGV.

There are also some outstanding SGV Bombers and SGV Hurricanes in there as well.

Congrats to all that were selected to play in the All-Star game!!!

A quick look at the rosters and over a dozen of those selected played at one time for the West Covina Dukes during the 2003-2005 seasons and the impressive run they had during that time.

Also looking at the 3 High Schools playing in this weekends Championship Games, 20+ kids also called Maverick Field and the Dukes their home at some point during the same time.

Hollenbeck Park (Covina Pony/Colt) looks to also be well represented in both events as well!! Quite and impressive bulk of talent in the East SGV during that time!!

Not looking to start an Anti/Pro Duke thread here…. Just an observation!!!!

Good Luck to all, and bring home the Hardware!!!

hiring practices in basketball?

DR apparently has screwed them all up!

To Panther Pride. Don is right, your coach didn't nominate anyone. Typical Pomona Unified guy, always drops the ball.

tough for baseball said:

sorry but don is right - the DR coach did not turn in his list of nominations. It seems kind of odd and that this game came out of nowhere and in the heat of playoffs. It is tough w/ baseball - everything so close to end of the year, schools getting ready for graduation and all.

Don said:

DR Parents,
From what I've heard, the teams were picked off of nominations given by their own coaches and would think their must not have been a sheet turned in knowing that two of the coaches are from the same league. Don't assume the coaches pick the teams completely because I have heard that a few of the coaches weren't even there that are listed. Good luck and keep your head up.

how are rosters picked?

FROM: Diamond Ranch Baseball Parents

We are not sure if it is to late but it is quite odd that most of the Miramonte league is represented in this all star game except for seniors from Diamond Ranch, of which we know that 3 of them made first team all league.

Please respond as to why they were left off this all star team.

Thank you,

Fred, please take a look at d ranch super 4 seniors, 2 position player nick greene .455 and just beat santa monica, and patriot. Gus lanuza pitcher, Jericho Kelsey 1b, and mike vinnitsky cf. is d ranch not part of the sgv??? Is that why none of our players are on it??

Does the coach have to submit names?

Thanks for giving some insight to this.

I don't know what the boundries are for the all-star game, which could explain why there are no D-Ranch players on it. I would ask one of the coaches coaching in the games. This is an event we have no part of other than covering it. I don't like that it's a day after the CIF championships, but it is what it is.

Denny Crane has turned the page. After reading the blogs and people saying just be happy for your team doing as good as they are and don't worry about other teams. They're right. So, Denny salutes all the SGV teams and wishes them well. South Hills, Bishop Amat, Northview, Diamond Ranch. Also, softball, Glendora, Bishop Amat and the heartbreaking loss for San Dimas.

Who picks the rosters for the The San Gabriel All-Star game? Looking at some of the names listed, there are players who didn't even have the best year on their team who made it, and ones left off who had much a better year. I see players who hit just above .300 and players who have struckout 18 or more times. Unless they are gold glove type players, I just don't understand. The Inland Valley All Star rosters look a little better.

SGV BASEBALL ROX said:

SGV has shown it has some very talented players and teams his year, well they always have and people should stop putting down SGV baseball. It has produced some very good players over the years and this year just follows in that tradition. SGV grows some awesome talent, There is some arguement for the SFV and the OC but SGV has always been on the map as one of the better places for talented baseball players. Good luck to all of our SGV teams in their quest for Championship Banners.

Fred-
Great CIF Baseball coverage. I have been following Bishop Amat's Brady Zuniga since his travel ball days under Chad Kreuter now of USC. Brady is developing into the type of player we all knew and hoped he would be. So proud of him, and happy for his family.

Andy Nieto has shown that all those years under Mike Gillespie at USC has established him as a fine high school coach. Nieto has excelled at motivating and keeping a talented group of ball players focused in realizing it's potential. These are the marks of not just a good team, but the foundation of a truly successful high school baseball program.

Congratulations to the entire Bishop Amat program and especially Jordan Fox, my vote for SGV MVP. Outstanding!

congrats to ALL our sgv baseball teams! and a great big CONGRATS to SHHS and coach smitty! WOW, what a great game yesterday down in elsinore. very tuff enviroment. shhs showed great team chemistry as they never quit, never got down, and never, questioned themselves and there ability to deserve to be where they are.

how strange is this; shhs and so/nd started the sports year scrimmaging each other and, they'll end there sports year in dodger stadium playing baseball against each other.......

Those football/baseball kids gotta be loving this moment!!

go huskies, go big green, we're goin' to the 'ship!!!

The San Gabriel All-Star game is for seniors only. Kiko Garcia and his foundation are putting on an underclassmen all-star at Alhambra H.S (great facility) on Sat. June 14th @ 2pm. Hopefully all the top 9-11th graders attend, and give us a preview of the future stars.

Jordan Leyland (San Dimas)is also playing in the Inland Valley All Star. I didn't see Drossel's name on the list.

Fred. Do you know if Junior Eric Smith [SS/RHP] of La Canada was invited to the SGV All-star team? He led the RHL in hitting for a 2nd year @ .625 and led in most hitting categories. I see there are 5 RHL players named. Is this for Seniors only? Thx.

yeah I'm not sure why the overlap with SGV and Inland Valley but its great for the guys chosen

a couple of players from San Dimas are also playing in the Inland Valley All Star game I believe Leyland and Drossel.

Danny Pertusati, Damien

Why is there an overlap? Inland Valley and SGV? Just curious.

Went to the Amat game today to witness their powerful offense. I got what I came for. Those guys can really swing the bat. There is not an out in that lineup 1-9. Their number 7 hitter hit a homerun and the number 8 hitter got 3 hits. Fox is the best player in the SGV. He can really swing it. Reyes has got to be the best shortstop in the SGV. Home plate umpire was a little shaky. He got rattled by Nieto early in the game and issued an official warning to him. Zuniga was not only fooling Bishop Montgomery hitters but also the home plate ump. He threw a breaking balls for many strike threes that were called balls. Amat should roll over St. Paul on Saturday night. Good luck to all teams in the SGV.

Drossel gets my vote too. He did a great job in the outfield as well as doing the little things that got his team going. Like the Tribune pointed out, he put his team in a position to win every game.

SHball said:

SH, was losing game 2-0 all the way to 6th.
Buffington pitched 4 inning, gave up 2 in first and held them. Cheap hits he gave up.
DeLaFuente came in the 5th for the first time in who knows how long, got the win 3 innings of shutout.
In the 6th SH scored 3 runs, Thad had a double with bases loaded.
7th Cameron had another bases loaded double, 2 rbi
This game was a lot closer then the score, SH scored 3 and 3 in the last two innings to win.

Congrats to Northview,South Hills, Diamond Ranch, And Amat, way to represent the SGV, Good luck to all in the Championship games.

Fred J and NV fans,
Yeah baby - Good call Fred.
Hey how about MVP considerations for Elias, Andrade and the SD pitcher Drossel. All three dominated this year. Drossel was the only one to shut us donw this year.

See you at Dodger Stadium, way to go Vikes.

RICK VAUGHN,

Your list looks good with 1 exception. Leyland has not played 1 inning in the OF this year.
He played a sub-par third base all year. Pitched some.

Prediction said:

Diamond Ranch, So. Hills and Northview will all come up losers and will not advance. Great seasons for all but the other teams they are playing are better then these SGV teams. Amat will win their Game and be the lone standing SGV team left in Baseball. Not a Amat Fan just the way it is going to go.

South Hills has done well in the play-offs but tough to judge a team all season when the competition isn't there...can we say AMAT?? Don't play the under-dog card, NO ONE was thinking SH would suck this year. They started off disappointing and got back on track. So not buying the WOW-LOOK AT SOUTH HILLS story. However, CONGRATS TO THEM and the other local team NV as well. My team was out long ago so now I am just a baseball fan.

No, I mean South Hills said:

Did anybody expect South Hills to make it this far? I'm serious, did anyone expect South Hills to potentially be in a situation where they would have to face Notre Dame?

I think we all expected to Northview to at least make it this far, if not further.

And, just so you know, I'm neither a parent nor a fan of South Hills.

You must mean that IF NV wins, Coach of the Year is easy!!!!! Naturally my vote for PLAYER would have to go to MARC ANDRADE!!!! Northview is so balanced and on any given day there is a "star" player, but Andrade shines almost every damn time he is out on the mound OR up at bat. Good Luck Vikings!!!!!

The choice is easy said:

If South Hills advances than the choice for coach of the year is easy.

Player of the year is more problematic, but I think Bishop Amat's Jordan Fox has to be the leading candidate.

West Covina's Tyler Pill would have to be choice No. 2.

Good luck making the tough decisions. That's what they pay you the big bucks for.
