(T)he Depression was the era of Don Budge, Jesse Owens, Knute Rockne, Seabiscuit, Babe Didrikson, and Joe Louis knocking out Max Schmeling. In the World Series, Babe Ruth called his "shot," the "Gas House Gang" tore up St. Louis, Joe DiMaggio began to anchor centerfield for the Yankees, and college football introduced the Cotton, Sugar, and Orange bowls. Sports hardly stopped. In fact, it grew.

Kevin Modesti watches sports from a new angle since his promotion from sports columnist to sports editor for the Los Angeles Newspaper Group. In his new blog, Modesti not only comments on the big sports stories of the moment-- he talks about what makes them big. Think of it as a conversation with readers about how these stories should be covered.
