50 truths, and counting (cont.)

rod_dedeaux_autograph.jpgReaders of my column on the 50 essential truths about L.A. sports seemed to mostly enjoy the mentions of old favorites and quirky history, people like the Fearsome Foursome, John Ramsey and Jim Healy, things like RI9-5171, the old PCL and the Shrine Game.

"Oh ... what great memories!" reader Shawn McQuown wrote in an e-mail.

Happily, Shawn and others have sent me more L.A. sports memories that deserve mention. Read on for a few of those. And send me yours.

Jim Murray. (Multiple readers have mentioned Jim. I would add: Melvin Durslag.)

The Fabulous Forum.

Rod Dedeaux coaching USC to 10 College World Series championships.

The USFL's L.A. Express playing at Pierce College in its final home game, with Steve Young quarterbacking against Doug Williams.

The L.A. Skyhawks soccer team playing home games at Birmingham High School.

The L.A. Lazers (indoor soccer). The L.A. Sharks (hockey). The L.A. Strings (tennis). (I would add: The Anaheim Amigos, who became the L.A. Stars, in the ABA.)

Johan Cruyff with the Aztecs.

The Kings' Triple Crown Line -- Marcel Dionne, Dave Taylor and Charlie Simmer.

Ross Porter.

UCLA-USC track dual meets at Drake Stadium. (I would add: track meets at the Coliseum, when it had a track.)

As I say, keep 'em coming.
