SWIMMING: Hart goes back to back at Southern Section relays

| | Comments (0) |

The Hart of Newhall girls' swim team waited more than a decade to capture its first title last year at the Southern Section Relays at Belmont Plaza in Long Beach.

But the Indians showed they were back for more Saturday night, capturing back-to-back championships to establish themselves as legitimate contenders for the Div. I title in May.

Hart placed in the top five in all seven relays en route to a wire-to-wire victory with 222 points, ahead of University High of Irvine (212) and Edison of Huntington Beach (206), which relied on Cindy Tran to win four events and set three meet records. Fountain Valley and Glendora also won races.

Canyon took seventh with 120 points, winning the 200-yard butterfly relay, taking second in the 200 backstroke relay and finished third in the 200 medley relay.

Kearsten Livingstone, Milena Lopez, Adria Morales and Kirsten Justice won the 200 butterfly relay in 1:47.17.

Maggie Hanson, Nicole Antoniuk, Chelsea Griffiths and Jordan Danny won the 4 x 100 individual medley relay for Hart in 4:00.33, more than six seconds ahead of University.

Hart took second to Edison (1:45.18) in the 200 medley relay in 1:45.73 and finished third in the 200 breaststroke relay (2:06.18).
