Football: Sierra Canyon excited about switch to 11-man

| | Comments (0) |

I just got off the phone with Sierra Canyon of Chatsworth football coach Jon Ellinghouse and he was brimming with excitement about the Trailblazers.

Sierra Canyon is making the switch to 11-man after winning the 8-man Omega League championship last year.

Ellinghouse said 6'5, 225 pound lineman Duncan Laliberte; 6'3, 170 pound WR Shane Harrison; and 5'11, 170 pound FB/LB Caleb Nickels will be counted on heavily next year.

The team is working out everyday and the buzz around campus is swelling.

Sierra Canyon will play in the revamped 8-team Alpha League along with Montclair Prep of Panorama City.

The Tarilblazers will play all home games at Granada Hills High.

Two new coaches have been added to the staff.

Line coach Ray Gerena comes over from Thousand Oaks and Dean Allison is the new defensive coordiantor from Harvard-Westlake of North Hollywood.

Gerena is well respected in local football circles and has had stints at Crespi of Encino and Westlake.
