What if Canyon played Oaks Christian this week?

I watched the Oaks-Newman game with much anticipation and expected Oaks to walk all over C.N. What I saw was a severely overrated Jimmy Clausen who clearly gets nervous under pressure. To think that Notre Dame made this guy their QB of the future makes me worry for the Irish. Clearly, Ryan Lingle performed better, was cooler under pressure, had more heart, made better decisions, and first and foremost, was a better team leader. I also saw an Oaks coaching staff with a long NFL and college pedigree get out- coached by the bright, no-name coaches of Newman.
The fact that Newman nearly won in regulation (remember C.N. going for it on 4th & inches near the Oaks goal line only to have a false start and have to kick the game tying FG) was validated when the Oaks head coach said they were lucky to win. There's several messages here. One is that polls can't always be accurate. Another is it doesn't take star players and coaches to win championships. Heck, that's nothing new and everyone, especially Hollywood, loves that story! I was also embarrased for Oaks Christian School when I heard Clausen was taunting C.N. with foul language before the game. Again, Notre Dame, you want that? Lastly, I hope that in the future the state championship games will alternate between Nor-Cal and So-Cal so that both regions will have to take turns travelling.

What this tells all of us is Canyon is 1 really good team.me being from tx I say no one could beat this Canyon team and whats with all the talk about this over rated QB named Claussen? Almost 20 years old,,, God how can that be ?

I must say that I agree with those of you who believe it is impossible to crown any high school football team a national champion. I believe that there are too many variables at this level to reach a consensus. Having stated this, I will also say that Canyon Country Cowboy football is very, very good. I played with some great teams in the 70's at San Fernando High School (Anthony Davis, Charles White, Manfred and Kenny Moore, Kebin williams, to name a few). Canyon is right up there with the very best teams I have ever seen. Canyon beat a very good DLS team for the state championship. Could Canyon match up against the best from Florida? Texas? Ohio? You bet.I have witnessed Long Beach Poly, Mater Dei, Hart, Orange Lutheran, DLS. I've seen Katy and Carrol in Texas. Man, oh man. Hard hitting programs all. I rate Harry Welch's Canyon's program and teams right up there with the very best this country has ever produced. Isn't high school football the very best everywhere?

Please note that the Canyon defense stopped Valencia's Shane Vereen, Hart's Delano Howell, Rio Mesa's Malachi Lewis, and stopped Moorpark's Darrel Scott, TWICE! All are Divsion I top prospects. The Canyon defense swarmed all comers this season. I don't think these boys cared who was carrying the ball for the opposition. They only cared he didn't want to try it again.
