Shuttered schools could be charters

The Los Angeles Unified School District board will vote this afternoon on whether to allow charter programs to convert three elementary school buildings in Woodland Hills - Collins Street, Oso Avenue and Platt Ranch schools - as well as Highlander Road Elementary in West Hills. Three of the schools are currently unoccupied while Platt Ranch is partially occupied by a performing arts program.

Neighborhood groups had hoped the school sites would be converted to nonschool uses such as senior and community centers.
