L.A. Mayor wants to do it for the airports.

Mayor Backs Plan To Extend Light Rail To Ontario Airport
Expansion Plan Needs Approval From MTA

LOS ANGELES -- As part of a plan to reduce congestion at LAX while increasing regional air-traffic capacity, Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa announced his support Tuesday for extending a proposed light rail line to city-operated Ontario International Airport.
Ontario Mayor Paul Leon and San Bernardino County Supervisor Gary Ovitt met with the mayor to discuss the possibility of extending the Metro Gold Line east to Ontario, even though the Metropolitan Transportation Authority has yet to approve any extension of the downtown-to-Pasadena line.
The MTA is considering a proposal to extend the light rail line 22.4 miles from Pasadena to Montclair. Last year, Ontario officials announced their support for making the Ontario airport the end of the line.

This after the feds decided the train would carry a whopping 10,000 people every day. Let's see, if fares are $2 each ride, that's a whole $20K per day. That means it'll pay for itself about 20 years after California falls into the ocean. Bold move by Villaraigosa supporting something that will never get financed. Didn't I just read Villaraigosa's girlfriend just got assigned to San Bernardino. There's gotta be a Holiday Inn near Ontario Airport. Mike

...not that any of us actually use the gold line...
I wish that it was in place. It would have been nice to hop a train to Podcamp and the New Media Expo going on at the Ontario Convention Center. (more info click my name)

I have ridden the Gold line it is nice. Unfortunately I have to drive my car to a bus stop to use it. The Gold line is to far to walk to from my home and there is no parking at the station. So I don't use the Gold Line.
