Poncedeleon makes oral commitment ....
La Mirada High School quarterback Daniel Poncedeleon, in the midst of a very impressive football season, has made an oral commitment to the University of Arizona -- to play baseball.
Poncedeleon is a 6-foot-3, 195-pound, strong-armed senior who is completing 71 percent of his passes (125 of 175) for an area-high 1,626 yards and 13 touchdowns and has been intercepted just twice. He is averaging 5.1 yards a carry on 20 trips.
He also clocks in the 92-94 mph range when he throws his fastball pitching for the Matadores' baseball team,
Last season he posted a 5-3 record with two saves and a 2.33 earned run average. He had 56 strikeouts and 31 walks in 60 innings. Opposing batters combined for a .212 average against him.
"He had a tremendous summer," coach Kim Brooks said, adding that Arizona wanted him badly enough to make him their No. 1 choice and offered a full scholarship.
Poncedeleon is expected to sign the letter of intent later this month.

Do you even know who the head coach is, and where he came from? He's and ex ass. coach from Cal State Ful. when they won the title in 05. That was when Horton was the head coach at Ful. and now Horton is head coach at Oregon. You have no clue what you guys are talking about. LMU will be at there top game either this year or next. Watch and learn
Man you are stupid;

Anony,
You are truely uneducated when it comes schools. maybe you don't know who the coach at LMU is. Please don't write about something you have no clue. LMU will be at the top of college baseball schools in teh near future.

Hey SP and SPS lets not exaggerate now. Wilson is good, but he isn't the best in the area. Encinas is by far the best on that SP team and maybe even in te area. Wilson still has alot to work on. He'll bloom into a great player when he goes to Wake Forest but as for now he's just another good player on this SP team.
Are u joking. If you don't know about LMU in the first place you shouldn't blow it off and make it seem like it's a weak school. If u didn't know LMU took the series against Cal St. Fullerton last year. Also I've spoken to Gabe as well, he had scholorships to both Arizona St. and Fullerton and USC and etc.... He was being recruited by way more schools than any of these kids out here. I don't even go to St.Paul and i still know Gabriel is the real deal. No one can take that away from him. The only thing he has left to do is beat Amat. That's it but other than that no one can say nothing to him and about where he's going because when it comes down to it, everybody elses kids in the area who play sports will end up at just another JC. So if your really trying to talk trash about kids that are going places and your kids are going to a Rio Hondo or something of that sort, then you shouldnt be saying anything.
Wilson is the best baseball player in the area. He will last and not give up went times are hard, because of his family's work up bringing. Some kids don't last and don't have that hard work up bringing. Wilson comes from a good all American family.
Say what:

Wilson is not better than Encinas or this kid from La Mirada. Encinas has junk that is unbelievable and he will make his family proud at LMU. Wilson can't get the JV team out from Cantwell. OUCH! Truth hurts. Wilson at best is a mediocore 1st baseman.
If Gabe Encinas is the area’s best pitcher, why didn’t he go to a powerhouse University, like Cal State Fullerton? The school would be closer to home=family. In addition, has won a national championship.
He stated he wants to win a national championship…., with a team or school who has never won one. And he stated the players (recruited) are good, hum? Who he stated are not big recruits nationally. The school (LMU) was only created in 1973, in 09 it was rank 4 in the west academically but low in curriculum, check Wikipedia. As for athletics, Santa Fe High school has produced more athletics than this (LMU) school. Yes its good he will receive a fine education but he talking baseball.
Absolutely LM MANNY, your post was powerful and hit home. We all need to respect each other. Good luck Poncedeleon and God be with you brother.
Hey SP STOP BEING A HATER!!!!! The blog is about Daniel not Wilson or Encinas!!!! Show the kid some Love. What we should be talking about is the fact that more Mexican American athletes are getting a chance to play at the next level look at our community… La Mirada, Pico, Santa Fe Springs, La Habra and Whittier mostly Mexican American’s live in these areas and I take great pride when one of our area kids goes to the next level and I get even happier when a Mexican kid gets a shot to play at the next level.
SP....
Be a man and be happy for this kid. I know both Chris and Gabe and they are great talents and good kids to boot. But this isn't about them. It is about Daniel.
Congrats to Daniel. It is great when a local kid gets an opportunity like this.

Honestly SP, they are all good players just all very different. The fact of the matter is that all 3 will be continuing their education and baseball careers at the next level which is what matters!!! Congrats Daniel, Chris and Gabe. The question is who's next? We should be proud of all of our local talent!!
i think Wilson from Sp is a much better talent. i have watch HS baseball for many years and its obvious when someone has it. what about Encinas? that kid can play!!!
Awesome, what an opportunity!
Congratulations kid. Make your family and your community proud.
