California clinches DRL title
Terris Jones' sparkling 66-yard touchdown run on the first play from scrimmage propelled California to a 28-0 victory over host Santa Fe Friday night, clinching the Del Rio League championship for the Condors.
California, 6-2-1 overall and 4-0 in league, sits alone atop the DRL. Santa Fe slips to 6-3 and 2-2 and in a three-way tie for second with La Serna 3-6 and 2-2 and El Rancho 5-4 and 2-2.
Whittier defeated Pioneer and is locked with the Titans, each with 1-3 records. Whittier is 4-5 over all, Pioneer 3-6.
Jones finished with 199 yards and three touchdowns in coach Jim Arnold's ground-oriented game plan. Quarterback Adam Contreras passed only once, a 7-yard completion to Christian Hernandez.
California's defense was stifling, holding the Chiefs to a net 24 yards on 22 carries. Santa Fe quarterback Justin Rincon racked up 209 yards passing but completed only 13 of 31 passes and faced constant pressure from the Condors.

Question????? Possible outcome???????
If Norwalk keeps getting better===will Santa Fe keep getting worse?????
Norwalk has been on the "improve" over the last 4 seasons or so!! Santa Fe has gotten worse over that time period!!! Santa Fe has only won 1 league championship (on the field==not counting "forfeit league championship") in the last 4 seasons. They have not won a CIF game since reaching the finals (4 years ago??)!!!
Santa Fe has always had a huge supply of Norwalk players....before that time????? Is the "Norwalk supply" lessening??? A lot of speed in that Norwalk area!!
We will see!!! I hope the ??Question?? is answered YES!!
DRL
Norwalk was #1 in the division when they beat Pacifica genius. They are 9-1 and their only loss is to La Mirada who is ranked #2 currently in the division. They are now ranked #4. Yea, you know quite a bit about high school football. Again, you look like the fool you are. Give us some more insight!
DRL league fan...You dish it, you take it. You started all this with your crybaby wouldas, coulds, ifs and almosts with SF Flores QB. It doesn't matter.I watched all 10 games by Cal, they had what it took to beat SF regardless. And your ignorance shows with no knowledge of Cal Hi Football THIS year. You have no idea what the team went thru. You disgrace the intergrity of a CIF ring by being a unknowledgeable jerk.
Anonymous, or should I say annoyingus! I watch and have cousins and close family friends that play in the DRL, that's why I watch these teams now. And yes I did go to Schurr, but just cause I went their now I have to put Almont League Fan as my tag. Grow up! And did you ever win or even play anything all? Doesn't seem like it, I put in my time as a player and I won a ring! Can you say the same, I don't think so - because you boastful Cal people would be the first to say you won. But since your a CAL fan or ex-player or whatever - (what kind of loser won't say anything about themselves? You!) because there's nothing to say! Right?!! So as for you trying to talk about me I'm great and just watch high school football in this area and call it like I see it. If you don't like the truth, too bad! Deal with sack up and WIN something besides a DRL title. Cissy!
Cal Fan,
When they played these teams they had a losing record and Pacifica sucks they lost to Norwalk. And Villa Park played their most horrible game against you, just like how you feel that you played against Rowland. If you would play Villa Park again they'd kill you. And calling me a sore loser doesn't make sense, I went out winning my senior year can you say the same? I don't think so, who's the fool now? What do I have to be a sore loser about I have no ties with any of these schools, I'm just calling it like I see it. Again your facts are distorted and made out to make you feel better than your team really is. And that's the truth we'll just have to see what you league title can do for you in the playoffs!
DRL League Fan;------ Well why do you care if the DRL is weak our #1 fan, you are not playing this week. If you're not part of a high school team, what's your point. Are you that much of a loser. No girl to hug, no job=no money=loser. What kind of a fan are you knucklehead? The word is oxymoron.
DRL
When did I say that Cal would when a CIF championship? What don't you understand about my last post? I know enough about football in the Southeast to know that they most likely won't this year unless Charter Oak & South Hills choke. All I said was that they should enjoy their league TITLE (I agree, it's not a championship & shouldn't be called that) this year. Get your facts straight boy.
BTW, they beat Pacifica 5-4-1 & Villa Park 7-3. That's 2 teams besides Santa Fe with winning records isn't it? Again, get your facts straight, you look like a sore loser & a fool now.
DRL league fan dont lie you didn't win a cif championship at schurr. Why LIE! LOL. Schurr won one. You weren't on the team. Thats why your a del rio league fan and not an almont league fan.
Cal Fan,
Let's get this straight Cal did not own me we beat them in 06 my senior year. I wasn't on the team after that, I wish I was! And Cal thinks their great this year, but everyone that actually knows football - understands that the league was horrible this year. La Serna has like 5 seniors combined playing on offense and defense, El Rancho is El Rancho, Pioneer is Pioneer (joke), and Whittier is just a little bit above horrible and Santa Fe was a CIF Contender (NOT LEAGUE like everyone at CAL loves to celebrate!) until Flores got hurt. The reason why you lose is cause you think that a league title can magically help you win a CIF Title and thats where you don't know crap about football. Go ahead and enjoy your league title all the way till next year and even the year after or talk about in 10 years - GREAT! A team can be third place and win the CIF Championship, if they have heart, dedication, determination and the coaching - like we did in 06 and we beat La Habra. Can CAL Hi ever say that they beat La Habra in the last 8 or 9 years? I don't think so.
JMG3,
Why are you so happy about league and bragging rights? Is this what your team and coaches strive for every year? I sure hope not, but it really seems like it! If you win the ultimate goal which is the ring then come on here and talk about how great CAL is but till then league titles don't mean anything if you lose first round in the playoffs (which is very possible for you Friday night). And you also think that CAL's offense is so great. All they do is run the ball what happens when they face a team that can stop the run? Because believe me they will in the playoffs! And they have a QB that can't throw the ball and has no experience, do you want to put all the weight on his shoulders in the playoffs? Cause that's what going to happen against a good team, not La Serna or Pioneer! To me and anyone that knows football that isn't a balanced attack. So you can talk about how great you are, but really name a good team that you beat this year? Or name a team that you beat with a winning record this year? And Santa Fe doesn't count. Name one! But hey your league champs! Congrats you big WINNERS!
Cal will probably get Rowland in the first round. Cal is a different team than when they first met and Cal WILL advance. As for Schurr, I hope they get another chance but, they will probably not because BOTH teams will get knocked out. Cal is playing well right now but, a C.I.F. championship is a huge reach. Let them enjoy their league title, it was well deserved. Flores or not, Cal wins the title.
It's South Hills and Charter Oak who play at a different level in the Southeast than EVERYBODY else including your alumni. BTW, Cal has OWNED you since Arnold took over, 2-0-1 in the last 3 years.
Your perspective is distorted and inconsistent. You say how good Santa Fe is based on past & present stats, yet you don't apply the same to the current ones CAL is posting this season.
Of course it goes without saying, everyone would trade it all in for a CIF ring, but I'm not worried about that yet, only looking at the next game - one at a time. WIN OR LOSE, we'll take it as it comes. NO Excuses. Just like we've been doing all season, while playing with our BACK-UP quarterback, who stepped up and took over when the starter was injured in the beginning of the season.
As for preseason, CAL also defeated Pacifica & Villa Park, both poised teams in OC preview. Defense shut them down, and only got better as the season progressed.
You Shurr sound like a pretender and not a member, as your "DRL fan" tag implies?? Whether you're in or not, this year's DRL championship patch belongs to CAL, to wear proudly, along with the bragging rights for 2009.
Looking forward to CIF. Better get my ring finger sized, just in case.
GO CONDORS
CAL is overated, they're just lucky everyone in the league is down right now. And Santa Fe would of beat them this year guaranteed (with Flores)- and I'm not even a Santa Fe fan. I just happend to see them play a couple times this year and they were a totally different team with him in the game. Look at what happend to CAL during the pre-season when they played descent teams? They either lost or they tied (Like they did against my Alma mater - Schurr). Oh yeah there's my RING in 06 when we smashed Santa Fe!! And what kind of loser people are so happy about league TITLES???? Or CAL HI people I forgot, Santa Fe had like 8 or 9 in a row and guess what it doesn't mean crap! See if the coaching staff and players would trade in all of those league titles in for one CIF title! I guarantee they would. So be happy with your great big league title patch that these kids can put on there varsity jackets. WOW!!!! But my question will be in a week or two or when Cal faces south hills, charter oak, Rowland or even Schurr again is "Where's the RING?" It's not on your finger!
DRL Fan - Another CAL win tonight and only by 49 points. Balanced stats all around is doing the talking, No boasting, No luck, just a well planned offensive attack and a strong defensive standing, just like the last five games. Although, those attending could say that "LS Who?" never showed up.
As for Santa Fe: QB Flores may be the missing link for them, but how weak are they really, if the others aren't stepping up. Not a knock on the kids, its just the way their season has gone. You can't win games without scoring points & excuses don't work on the field.
The 2009 DRL belongs to CAL... Relax, sit back and enjoy your Champs in CIF.
Granado Family: There was a big smile in Heavan tonight.
First of all I am not a current ER Football player its been a looooong time since I played football for ER. Now, I sure did say "Dont get me wrong, Rick is moving our program forward ." When did I not give coach Zepeda a chance? all I said was that It would have been cool had Louie got his chance to coach ER, but it just didn't happen. I am glad Rick Zepeda is coaching El Rancho, the program is in good shape and looks to get better with plenty of returning starters for 2010. Yes Patricio did have a good stint at ER initially, but his last 2 years at ER were bad. In 1998 ER went 2-8, and 1-9 under Jim Patricio.
Cal Hi did not have a better team than ER in 2001, 2002, 2004, and we did kick your ass in 2007 even though you won league. Remember that 2006 team when ER went 0-10, did you dominate us in that game?? At no point did anyone from ER say that we were better than Cal. Should I throw out that ER was the better program from the 60's till the 90's? Besides, if you want to talk about who has been king of this league this decade there is no denying that it has been Santa Fe.
DRL Fan: Santa Fe does not have Flores because he got hurt on a special team he should not have been on!! Cal's Defensive line would have chewed up Flores because they beat the he__ _ out of SF's offensive line.
Cal is a very, very good team right now. Experienced players and a very, very experienced coaching staff.
A "league championship" is a championship knucklehead. Cal is not just beating its DRL opponents==they are wiping them out!! No "tainted title" this year. From El Rancho to 2nd half La Serna Cal scored about 100 POINTS without giving up 1 point!!
Go figure!!
sorry DRL Fan but its called a league championship. Look it up. lol. And you are right about one thing they probably won't win a cif championship but neither has anyone else from the del rio league since its existance. Of course league titles mean something. And of course it doesn't mean as much as a CIF championship. Quit being a smartass. How many CIF Championships do you have? Or did u even get in the games when u played?
So just because Santa Fe couldn't stop CAL, what makes you think that they could stop Santa Fe with Flores. Because they were putting up points with him in. You've never heard of a game with a score of 35-28 or 42-35? Team with the ball last wins, and that would be very possible with Flores in. So we'll see.
I agree with sport fan original; Give the ER coach a break. Man it's only his second year. Coach Patricio is very well loved at the Ranch and he can coach, ex. ER parent you are right on.
chiefdum alumnut, i mean drl league fan
are you the same person ? it sures sounds like it.why so bitter? you had your day and now you suck. get over it , you seem to be slipping on the recruiting lately or is it maulstuds time to shine on the field ? well thats not working. good for us.
peace
Can you guys please clarify these CAL championships with league titles? Because there not championships, there league titles! And CAL is far from winning a CIF Championship - just like every year!
Oh well maybe they'll get one when the teams in the playoffs are just Santa Fe, Pioneer, Whittier, El Rancho, La Serna and them. Until then I don't think so.
DRL
I will agree with you that Santa Fe is a way different team with Flores, offensively. Does he play defense? The defense was soft & got mauled every drive of the first half. Until you stop the run, they will keep pounding it. Cal can throw the ball, they just didn't need to against you.
I really hope Flores from Santa Fe comes back for the playoffs and they see CAL again. CAL has won a tainted DRL title and they know it. They should thank La Serna for that title for taking him out of the game. When CAL faces a real team in the playoffs they will get killed, running the ball every single play because they have no passing game at all, won't win you a CIF Title - you have to be balanced. If they play a team like Charter Oak that can man up their corners and and put 9 in the box they will be making their QB just throw up picks all day and shut down the run. They will even have problems with Schurr.
Why are people acting so shocked and happy about CAL beating Santa Fe, their not the same team without their QB. With him their a CIF title contender they almost beat Warren (which is a great team) and Warren would of beat CAL at 28-0. I guarantee they wouldn't be able to run the ball on Warren. So we'll see in the playoffs for CAL they're a little to proud and boastful on this blog.
congrats to the condors
great way to bring the title back to CAL
champs to BEGIN this decade..and champs to END it
2000,2006,2007,2009!!!!
crush la serna..send them off our field and back to the hills
elrancho::: USE YOUR HEAD!! Bragging over the coaches that left and leaving nothing for your head coach. I hope other players are smarter than you. That is no way to treat your coach. He has helped to improve your team this year.
Cal has better players and probably better coaching. You are judging all those Cal coaches (ex El Rancho ones) when they were lower level coaches. Well coaching Varsity is a totally different ballgame. Much more difficult, better competition of coaching than you find on freshmen or JV, and much more "scientific".
If I were the El Rancho players I would shut up. You guys have not won a championship for a long time. Give your coach a break!! A chance!!
Cal has won 3 or 4 championships now in the past 9 or 10 years. They reached the semifinals 2 or 3 times also. Cal has had a better team than you for the last 10 years. The last real good team El Rancho had was under Setlich. No wonder he got out of there. You guys probably gave him no credit.
Better players!! Period. And the way Cal has kept improving this year, probably a superior coaching staff!!
Way to Go CAL. Decisive victory in all categories. Santa Fe got Railroaded by the CONDORS...LS is already at the back of the line, and just another quick stop for the CONDORS on the Road to CIF...Class Coaching & Team unity, fueled by the memory of a past teammate, #33. WAY TO GO CHAMPS...Kick'n
"elrancho"
You did not mention the 2 or 3 league championships Patricio won at the "Ranch"!! Give him his credit!!
He can coach!!
Eight years full of excitement and great memories with this Cal team, Freshman to Varsity & Freshman to Varsity again. Tomorrow will be the last league game for us, and Baby Haro is on crutches - Bummer! Those of you who have had to watch from the sidelines your senior year know how that feels. It is what it is, I guess. Finish strong CONDORS. Finish league, UNDEFEATED! Thanks for the memories. We'll talk about next week......Next week.
From the dog house to coaching gods. What a turn of events coaches. That is ridiculous if that is not from a player, I agree. I will say this tough, the whole staff along with the kids should be proud for their accomplishments so far. Hopefully it's not over anytime soon. The toughest work is ahead and it starts with La Serna tomorrow boys. Are the Lancers going to break out the black uniforms? Pay back time Cal!
Just when i thought these bloggers couldn't get any more ridicoulous. Coaching Gods? lol. you people are too funny. I really hope that was one of their current high school players. Because if thats an adult they need a serious psyche evaluation. Comparing the Cal high coaches to Gods? I've heard it all.
Arnold is a good coach, he did coach under Patricio, but Patricio lost control of the program in 1999 going 1-9 a record which was unheard of at El Rancho at that point. The Padilla brothers were great coaches and did great with the lower levels at ER from 1998 till 2003 when they left to take over the program at Lawndale. They were slated to coach on Varsity during Reyna's 3rd year in 2003, but decided to leave. Louie Zamora was one of the most valuable coaches we had under Reyna and in 2007 under Parsons. It is a shame that he was not given a shot at taking over the program in 2008. It would have been great had Louie stayed around to coach under Zepeda, but unfortunately one has to do whats best for himself and Louie had no choice than to coach at another school. Dont get me wrong, Rick is moving our program forward, but under Louie our program would have taken a much different persona that the alumni would have loved.
great thinking guru do you think you and the sf people have the kids best interest at heart, knowing what is wrong with his knee! just a game he has his life ahead of him
This is what I know, stupid Ms. Ellis (ER Principal) didnt hold on to these great coaching gods!

BORING. Talk about the Montebello schools. They are way classier, better looking women, athletically superior, and people have computers to blog on.
Lil flores is coming back for CIF playoffs!!!!!!guau we ll see SF without Flores was a different team. that has to be seen if he comes back that ll be something good luck dog
Hey Whittier Daily News, 1/4 Page and teeny picture...really?
Cal shut out SF, you know the team that gets HUGE articles when they win with HUGE pictures to accompany it.
Whatever, Santa Fe can have the WDN love. Cal has the DRL Title!
GO CAL!!!
Cal High's coaches are not all El Rancho guys. At least half of the Varsity coaches have never had anything to do with El Rancho.
They are the lower level coaches.

who the hell cares about any of this? You take this too serious. It's a frikn blog in a site where maybe at its best gets 300 hits. Screw St. Paul, screw the DRL and screw you. Everyone knows La Habra is the only thing worth reading about.
Yo Anonymous, err, I mean, Head in the Sand:
This is a Cal High thread so congrats to Cal on their great win and league title. It's well deserved.
As for your St. Paul bashing, whatever. I guess you have nothing better to do with your sorry life. But get the facts straight so you don't look like a complete and ignorant fool. Your comment: "..the jv and frsh team stink just as bad as the varsity team.." is totally incorrect so pull your head out. The frosh team is a very respectable 6 wins with 3 losses and undefeated in league. The frosh and JV teams have a group of great athletes and will provide needed help on Varsity next year. So while the Varsity struggles with bad luck, the frosh and jv teams are having great success.
Go St. Paul!
Great Job Condors! Since the days of spring training I have watched all of you mature as football players. It was a rocky start in the beggining. However you learned from your mistakes, trusted your coaches and always believed in yourselves.I am so proud of the way you played with humility and confidence. The first of your goals has been achieved. Now it's time to get to business. Finish up league on a positive note and ride this big wave into the playoffs!
No excuses needed. SFS has the talent, they just need a coach that's not calling plays from the 70's and not so predictable. Toast Failstead's days are long gone and he should be replaced if SFS is ever to have a chance at a ring. The nepotism/ favoritism shown by him is deplorable and parents can't wait till his grandson graduates so he can move on and let someone with fresh, up-to-date coaching abilities/techniques take the helm. I mean come on, you put your starting QB in on a "hands team" kickoff? What an idiot!
Forget this story. Lets talk about how St. Paul will comeback from its hardcore preseason and dominate league...what?...err...you mean they are getting clobbered in their own little weak league too? But that can't be! They are the best team in the area. They ALWAYS dominate. They are the cream of the crop...Oh well, I might as well get used to it since the jv and frsh team stink just as bad as the varsity team. Oh well. DING DONG, THE Morons are GONE! hip hip hurray. hip hip hurray. hip hip hurray.
Congrats to Cal High and their great coaching staff.
Now where are all the Cal High fans at that said the Cal High coaches are all El Rancho guy's that can't coach?
Those ER guys just won you a League title you haters!
Blue Pride... GO ER!
Congratulations Cal!!! What a game last night. Santa Fe came out fired up and the Cal defense shut them down from the opening kick-off, and all night long. The Santa Fe people were stunned! They have never seen their Chiefs go down like this. This Condor team is firing on all cylinders and is really working like a unit. TJ did his magic running for 199 yards and the defense put constant pressure on Santa Fe QB Rincon. It was beautiful! GO CONDORS!!!
Congratulations Cal!! This team is firing all cylinders
I told you we were going to kill SF, but blank them, I didn't see that. SF has no talent and Coach can't see anymore. Let's see who's our next victim, oh LS, well get ready because here we come. Oh I forgot to say the party at Cal Awesome !
BIG UPS to Cal for nailing Santa Fe last nite and securting the league title...whodathunkit???? The Southeast division aint gonna be no cakewalk, their are some bada$$es playing football on the the other side of them hills......TAKE NO PRISONERS BABY!
congrats to the condors
great way to bring the title back to CAL
champs to BEGIN this decade..and champs to END it
