When someone is looking for a good reason to keep playing on the PC, you might want to point them to M.U.G.E.N.. It's a free, 2D fighting engine that allows modders to create, you guessed it, 2D fighting games like the ones in the old arcades when they weren't an endangered species.
It's been around for years and hobbyists have managed to blend nearly every character imaginable into their vision of the "perfect" fighter creating some fantastically bizarre duels. There's also a thriving community out there doing everything from technical support in helping newcomers get a grip on how to run it to pixel artists trading characters and backgrounds for designers to make use of in their own releases.
And when I said bizarre, I wasn't kidding. Check out this matchup between Darkstalker's own Morrigan and the Japanese version of Ronald McDonald in front of a Burger King. I guess neither one of them wanted to use the drive through.
After my adventure in the morning, I headed off to the floor to check out a few more games and demos, hitting up Capcom and Activision to get a taste of what was going on there.
Less than two weeks away from Capcom's release of Bionic Commando due out on May 19 for the Xbox 360 and PS3. Here's a little teaser for the online mulitplayer game.
As we noted here a little more than a week ago, Capcom was having their blood drive today to not only help trumpet the release of Resident Evil 5, but also to aid the perpetually good cause of donating blood. We weren't there, but they sent over some shots. Take a look. The event drew in a few hundred.
To help promote Resident Evil 5's launch on Friday, March 13, Capcom and the American Red Cross are going to be hosting a blood drive at the World of Wonder Gallery from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m.
In addition to the happy feeling you get when you give blood, you'll also be privy to blood drive swag, chances to grab copies of the game, and your name entered into a drawing for a red RE-themed 360. No word yet on whether it's the same shade of red as the RROD. Also, you'll get a chance to play the game at various gaming stations.
Welcome back party people you know how we bring you the latest in games and technology. Just in a trailer for Resident Evil 5 which will be release on PS3 and Xbox 360 on March 13, 2009.
Redmond and I had a chance to play a snippet RE5 at the Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas back in January. Great game and even better seeing it on a side of a building.
Note: Photo below.
Who would pass up a chance to play RE5 on the side of Planet Hollywood Hotel in Las Vegas? Nothing like watching the infected die on the side of a hotel.
Here's the trailer. Enjoy!!
Sorry for the late post on the Street Fighter IV launch party at the Geffen Contemporary at MOCA in Los Angeles. A fellow reporter Andrew Edwards and I join in the festivities and where blown away with the large response fans of the Street Fighter Saga.
Spread around the MOCA where flat screens, game consoles and the occasional fan dressed as their favorite SF character. Capcom spared nothing and gave everything to the fans and celebrities for an excellent kick off.
Feel the power, fanboys. If you haven't seen this yet, be prepared for a some anime-action guitar, plenty of glory shots and a cascade of cheeseball dialogue playing throughout the whole trailer. I love it. It almost helps me get over the fact that I'm awful at this game. On a side note, good to see Rose ... I made good use of what I call her "Jordan" move when I was in my Alpha-playing prime. Some of you might know what I'm talking about.
My first (and last) full day of CES is done. Instead of boring you with an giant roundup, I'll be giving you bite-size chunks of some of the stuff Al and I saw. Al's got pics and videos, I've got words.
You saw the Greenpeace stuff, so after that, it was off to Capcom. They were one of the few companies showing off games in a suite E3-style, so I played Bionic Commando, Resident Evil 5 and a cute, odd game called Flock. Quick impressions about the games after the jump.
