2nd hung jury in Temple City murder case

| | Comments (0) |
ALHAMBRA -- A hung jury was declared in the re-trial of two men accused of killing Temple City teenager DeAndre Netter in a drive-by shooting in July 2007. After four days of deliberations, jurors announced Tuesday they could not reach a unanimous verdict in the murder case against Christopher Gilbert Lopez and Phillip Adrian Guerra, both of Temple City. The first trial in April was also declared a mistrial when jurors could not reach a verdict. The two pleaded not guilty in the slaying of Netter, 17, as he walked with his twin brother and another boy in the 5700 block of Golden West Avenue in Temple City. Netter was struck by gunfire in the upper body about 11 p.m. after eating at a Carl's Jr. restaurant on July 25, 2007. He was taken to Methodist Hospital in Arcadia, where he was pronounced dead.

Attorney protests Sirhan move

| | Comments (0) |
This from the AP. Sirhan lived in Pasadena. His brother Munir maintains the family home near Muir High School:

LOS ANGELES - An attorney for the man who assassinated Robert F. Kennedy said Monday his client was transferred from a prison that houses high-risk offenders to a new facility where his life could be in danger.

Attorney William F. Pepper said Sirhan Sirhan opposed the move from the state prison in Corcoran, which houses high-risk prisoners such as Charles Manson, to Pleasant Valley State Prison in Coalinga.

"Our main concern is for his safety," said Laurie Dusek, an associate of Pepper. "We are not sure that Pleasant Valley has the ability to protect him. He is a target."

Pepper said he has new evidence and wants to reopen Sirhan's case.

Oscar Hidalgo, a spokesman for the Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation, said Sirhan, 65, had requested the transfer and wants to stay in Pleasant Valley.

"After discussing his hesitation with prison officials at Pleasant Valley, Sirhan Sirhan indicated he wanted to stay at the new facility after all," Hidalgo said. "He can indicate if he feels unsafe at any point and the department will respond appropriately."

This from Alfred Lee, in court covering the trial of two men accused of shooting Deandre Netter to death in the summer of 2007: Our coverage of the shooting is here.

ALHAMBRA - A friend of murdered Temple City teenager DeAndre Netter testified Monday that he could not see the driver or the shooter during the drive-by shooting.

The 17-year-old friend, identified in court only as "Mike M," had been walking home from a Carl's Jr. with DeAndre and DeAndre's twin brother in the 5700 block of Golden West Avenue in Temple City in July 2007 when DeAndre was shot and killed. DeAndre was 17.

Christopher Gilbert Lopez and Phillip Adrian Guerra, both of Temple City, are facing a re-trial in Netter's murder after jurors could not reach a unanimous verdict in April.

Mike recalled seeing a car pull up nearby and being pushed out of the way by one of the Netter twins when shots were fired. But he said he could only see a light emanating from the dashboard when he looked inside the car.

"I tried to (look), but it was really dark," Mike testified. "I just saw a blue light."

Azusa couple charged in No Cal murder

| | Comments (0) |
This from the Woodland Daily Democrat:

Tears were shared among family members of the suspect accused of accessory in the murder of a 17-year-old Woodland boy, when the release or reduced bail request was denied Monday.

Rachelle Pease, 19, is being held on $1 million bail for her alleged role in the murder of Cache Creek High School student Billy Martinez in late June. She appeared in court with her husband, Marcelino Michel, who allegedly shot Martinez in the head at the Crossroads Village apartment complex.

Pease and Michel, 29, fled after the shooting and were located in Azusa, in early August. The couple remains in custody, but their defense counsel asked that Pease be released on her own recognizance or granted a reduced bail because, "the individual she aided after the fact is in custody." The defense went on to say Pease has a 3-year-old daughter waiting for her at home.

Deputy District Attorney Garrett Hamilton said Pease's involvement extended beyond aiding her husband after the fact. Hamilton said he has statements from Pease's brother and one other family member, confirming that it was she who handed Michel the gun used to kill Martinez.

Further, "She and her extended family led police officers on a wild goose chase." Hamilton said. "This is absolutely a big deal."

PASADENA - The bail amount for a Monrovia man charged with torturing and murdering his girlfriend will remain at $2 million, a superior court judge determined Tuesday.

Brian Lee Randone is charged with beating and suffocating Felicia Lee at their Monrovia home. He faces life in prison if convicted.

The 45-year-old Randone was jailed last week on $2 million bail.

Murdered Asian porn queen and preacher boyfriend profiled by CBS' 48 hours

| | Comments (3) |
CBS' 48 Hours put together a complete profile of Felicia Tang and Brian Randone on its crime blog. Much of it cites reporting done by Thomas Himes over the past few days.

There are some interesting photos taken from Randone's MySpace and Facebook accounts though. Here's the money shots:

image5319640x.jpg
Randone apparently also believed in apocalyptic bible prophecies: "I really believe with all my heart that Jesus is coming again soon. I've studied a lot of prophecy and many are being fulfilled literally right before our eyes. He is coming."
Felicia Lee first published FeliciaTang.com in 2002, displaying nudes and movie stills. Also, Lee sometimes blogged in the "news" section of the site. "Felicia Tang" blog posts stood out in ironic contrast to the Christian-themed writing by the man accused of her murder:
March, 2004: "I was going back and forth to casting calls with Playboy. They were casting for girls for their DVD with Red Man and Method Man's Mansion Party. I got my part so we shot this in the Playboy Mansion...I brought some pictures for you guys to view. It was great during the day I was in the pool scene with three other models. The typical ...girls laying out by pool and then decide to get naked and bounce and play in the water...giggling away. [...] By the end I was delirious....these shoots really take a long time..with lots of waiting around."
