Kopitar's penalty

| | Comments (8) |

Anze Kopitar drew a 10-minute misconduct penalty in the the second period when, while skating to the bench, he smacked his stick against the glass and cracked it.

``I could probably hit it a million more times like that and it's not going to break, but it was stupid for me,'' Kopitar said. ``I was just frustrated it can never happen again.''

Well I attended the game tonight and it was a tough loss having both goals taken away. I have to observations on tonights game; first off Babs p;layed really well again tonight but he did let up that semi soft goal. Secondly I was impressed by the way Simmonds played, he got a lot better in his second game and who knows he may stick up here for a while.

The Slovenian Guillotine!

That was a huge piece of glass that fell down...Ersberg almost got his head chopped off! (his hands totally popped up, ready to make a save too!) The reaction of the equipment guys and fans were so funny...

...meanwhile, Kopi just acts like nothing happened!

Frikin hilarious!

I saw highlights on TV after the game (NHL Network) but I was also at the game, and they even showed the replay of the disallowed "kicking motion" goal on the jumbotron. fans booed for obvious reason, it was not a clear kick, but his foot was sliding on the ice. borderline, but I was willing to let it "slide" if they had not already robbed us on goal #1

this is unusual for replays, it has been NHL league policy for at least the last 5 years not to show replays in the arena on close or disputed plays. maybe they are actually trying to help the fan who paid $35 to sit in the nosebleed seats figure out what happened!! if so, hallelujia

Dustin in the crease, yeah he had one leg in there, but that's not impeding the goaltender's ability to come out and see the play. tell me Detroit doesn't do this all game long. normally this will only result in a disallowed goal if your entire body (say 75% or more) is in the crease. made no sense unless they decided to suddenly start enforcing like it's 1999, the old toe-in-the-crease B.S.

obviously if he makes contact while dangling that one leg in the blue area, then they're probably going to call a 2 minute penalty on top of waving it off. but that never happened...

don't even get me started on the Kopi 10 minute misconduct... just garbage. and here I thought the league wanted to highlight it's stars. obviously the glass breaking was a complete freak accident, players bang their sticks on things all the time with nothing breaking.

and goal #1 they clearly went upstairs while goal #2 they not only went upstairs, but also consulted Toronto.

overall, weak stuff. for all the focus on increased scoring in the league, they do not seem very concerned about letting many legitimate goals stand.

make that "its stars"... I don't want to seem grammatically challenged.

brianguy - I couldn't agree more with you on the first disallowed goal. The Kings need to challenge the NHL on this one. Holmstrom alone is much more interfering with the goalies 90% of the time. Its rarely called, except for in the playoffs last year. The NHL needs to be disciplined on this one. The officiating is crap and has been getting steadily worse for the past couple seasons. These KIDS they have officiating are intimidated by the players, they constantly turn their backs on semi-dangerous cross-checks, hits from behind, elbows, and knee-on-knee. All this shit is a slippery-slope toward injury. Really, its a disgrace.
